Apologies for the sounds quality at the start I need a better radio mic! It gets better when I take it off though. About time I got a Capri on the channel and looking forward to getting more done on it, parts have already started to arrive 😅
What mics are you using, the DJI ones are good
Yes to DJI but Rode wireless ones are even better

It's not even bad at all.
It sounds okay ....just a bit peaky at times, either lower the gain by 20% or place it further away from your foghorn
This Capri deserves a full respray and keeping original .....👍

If it gets an engine swap, no issue with keeping original engine and bits with it when it's moved on.

In 1987, my Dad took me out of primary school for 'a laugh', picked me up in a red Capri, took me to the petrol station, bought a packet of smarties and a king-size Mars (which I took), then took me to buy a Mountfield Lawnmower. It was such a cool day and how he got that massive new Mountfield into the boot I have no clue. He owned the Capri for about a week and that is my only memory of it. Good stuff!
My first choice is an estate car, but it's amazing how much can go in a hatchback car, with the rear seats folded, they are both useful "kit".
It might be worth checking the cam spray bar.

You obviously know nothing about cars...the Capri is just a prop to get views. A genuine enthusiastic wouldn't have butchered the battery terminals and started a dry engine...

This has made me smile. I sort of took Capris for granted in the 80s because they were everywhere, but I'd love one now.
Was distracted at work all afternoon waiting for 6pm!!! What a wonderful start to my Friday evening!!! I had quite a bit of experience with Capri's, back in the day, and they were always great fun! As always, thank you Ben for the excellent entertainment.
St170 engine on twin carbs is what you need, leave everything else standard including the laser stickers. Like an old skool sleeper 👍
Im a Brit living in KY, a dirt dauber is a kind of wasp that builds their nests from mud, had a 3l V6 capri back in the day, and it scarped the hell out of me on damp days 😀
They are actually called Mud daubers.
A good few years ago I used to take them fully apart so the shell could go for a respray, then put them back together a week later, lovely cars

Gotta love a capri. That shape, the aggressive look. The headlights. It wouldn't look out of place in America next to a dodge charger.
They apparently named the capri the Mustang of the UK back in the day .I guess they were a similar shape
Plus the Mustang was a bit smaller than equivalent American coupés so made a bit of sense .
I owned a fair few Capri back in the 80,s .

Gotta lova a ford Capri. My parents had 2 and wrote both of them off, the second time with me in the back in a carry cot. The first was a sleeper 1300l with a 2 litre engine and an enormous weber carb jammed under the bonnet and zero upgrades to wheels, tyres, brakes or suspension so no wonder it crashed. The second was a John Player Special limited edition and that's the one I was in the back of when it got written off on the way back from a holiday in the South of France.

What can I say, you can do as many Capri episodes as you like, I've had a mk2, an immaculate one owner 2.0s, a 2.8 injection,a 3.0 ghia and a highly modified 3.0s and loved them all,I could watch you all day long,just so enjoyable and entertaining, best wishes to you Ben.
I've seen so many of these just sitting in driveways and on the side of roads, its really nice to see one being brought back to life.
Bought my Third Capri a 2.0s 1983 5 speed during lockdown.She is now historic a bit like me Lol. Been looking forward to watching this .

Halfway through this and it's awesome already. My stepdad had a mint W reg Navy blue 2.0.S back in mid 80s. Had the orange check fishnet ricaros in. Awesome car that was.

Watching you mess with this took me back to the early 90s my nannas drive way I had 3 mad uncles who had Orion’s capri’s cortina’s every weekend they would be doing something absolutely brilliant watching u fix this up 🎉
Same always felt like the bonnet was 3 miles infont when driving them but still good cars better time's

Fantastic video yet again Ben thanks. Always preferred the MK1 s as my brother in law had one of the early gts and i remember cleaning it as a kid and sitting in it in the drivers seat. The one you have got though should make a great project car. You've got the interior looking so good already well done lol

I’m restoring a 2.0s that I bought 4 years ago now. Was heavily customised with a V8 but I’m returning it to somewhat original with a pinto I’ve owned for 2 decades.
I’m also doing an Australian mk2 Escort van that I imported last year and almost owned that now for a decade!!!

Your best project yet, i have had loads of Capris, sold my last a few years ago which was a 1.6 laser in black, your seats are in amazing condition as normally the material splits. I bet the heater motor is knackered and thats why the lower dash was out , looks a good shell. hope you do well with it on utube.
The small wire to the positive terminal is a fusible link, inside the sleeving further down the wire it connects to larger red cables and yes you can buy batteries with flat terminals, really enjoying this, i served my time as an auto electrician on Fords from our local Ford dealership in Horwich called Gordon Ford, this was in 1979, we did their electrical repairs, cheers Andy

I found an old Henry hoover in a skip!
Stripped it down and cleaned it all out. The engineering especially the cable reel in them is interesting. They were designed by the still owner of the company who made the first one with an oil drum. That's why the thread on the hose is that size it's a small oil drum cap size! They are designed to be worked on you can tell!
In Sweden, sales of the Ford Capri must have been pretty much non-existent, because when I grew up in the 70s and 80s, I never saw one. But I did see one in the Matchbox catalog and I decided that I wanted it!
Amazing addition! I can’t believe how solid it is underneath. Not much welding needed at all. The wear free Laser drivers seat is very rare. The interior has scrubbed up so well.
I also have a black Capri Laser (video on my channel) so can’t wait to see the progress and restore you do on this. That engine is on the button and barely run in! I would suggest keeping as is for a good year maybe and put some miles on it and enjoy it. Maybe then engine swap, but don’t ‘bin it’ just stick it on a pallet and keep it to one side maybe, especially as you have all the mot history to back the mileage up etc.

the alternative is to restore as a minter injoy it then sell it and put the wad of cash in finding and securing the 2.8 injection !

My Dad used to like Capris when i was a child, Mk1 & Mk2 and a special edition MK3 Calypso in dark green . Really enjoying watching your channel. Better than wheeler dealers by a country mile.
that capri needs to be kept as a 1.6 laser - It's such a unicorn car in that condition and mileage, and is 100% original. Please don't change the engine, just make that car concours. You can easily find another one less special which can take an st170 lump or whatever - In perfect condition that capri could be pushing 8-10k? Will definitely fund another. You are well worth patreoning matey.
Lovely Low mileage Capri. Depends what you want to do with it. Fords tend to be worth more money if they are all standard. That engine only has 32000 miles on it. You could install a bigger engine in it. But I would keep the original engine as a backup. Just in case you wanted to sell it. So you could covert it back to standard. I had a 2.0 Laser 30 years ago, couldn't get a parcel shelf for it then with or without speaker holes

I had a 1.6L and a 1.6S back in the 80s. Both had this engine, although the S had a fancy manifold (it broke). I broke back axles, brakes, starter motors, gear linkage. They went sideways at the first hint of rain. Rusty buggers too. They were great!

I remember these back in the day, my uncle had a bronze mk1 with black vinyl roof but it was tragically rusty, especially where the roof fitter had used a stanley knife to trim the vinyl - your car looks much better! At one point the father and son next door both had black 3 litre (?) S(?) cars with the gold pinstripes. Helped kindle my interest in cars as a teenager

I have a 1972 mk1 1600 inherited from my late father. Back in the day i had 2x mk3 16's, 3x 2.8i specials, and a 280 brooklands. I love capri's such fun cars. Great video.

G'afternoon Ben 🤠 . Nice score & great job my friend. Here in the States' Ford has the mud stain & mercury has the capri 🤣 . Some guys turbo them but my friends & I put 302 & 351 smallblock's with camshafts and headers in them. If it's a standard we put a four-speed stick in them and if it's an automagical we use a C6 w/ a shift kit, then we relocate the rear shocks so we can run wider tires out back or we 4 link the rear end. They make for fun little road & track cars 😋 ..

Hello from Canada! Nice score bud! I had two Capri's in my teen years (Long ago LOL) Both 1973 models and both manual V6 2.6L However one was massively modded with Race cam and pistons, high rise manifold four barrel carb hooker headers. (I think that was it) and it went as you might say "Like the Clappers!" Or as we would say "She's a Ripper!" It was painted Candy Apple Red with a huge Whale Tale on the rear too! It had a body kit on it and looked MEAN! But it kept on blowing out rear end's and when the struts on the front died and the clutch cable snapped for the the second time along with the diff blowing up again I just stopped and drove the stock one. It was great and I actually did a few amateur Rallies. What I wouldn't give to have those European Fords (They were sold under the Mercury name here actually) back NOW! Too bad yours is the tiniest engine available. HOWEVER! I would think it wouldn't be much difficulty finding a V6 maybe a 2.8 or 3.0L even to put into that baby. I haven't yet watched the whole video so I'm praying and hoping it runs like crap so you are motivated to swap that sucker out and make it a fantastic project car we could all watch for a bunch of series videos on it and maybe YOU could go RACING!!! WOW! THAT WOULD BE SOOOOO COOL!! PLEASE!! DO THIS!! If you've ever loved me at all (LOL I'm trying everything here) you'd genuinely see how important this is to me and ALL OF YOUR FAN BASE PLUS ALL of those thousands to come once they catch on that you're the first REAL CAPRI swapping Video EVER (Like I said I'm trying everything LOL) great personality and master mechanic to actually do a full Capri build on you tube! I bought a 76 1.6 l ..50.00 pound from an auction. Blown head gasket. Fixed it. Sold it on. Found it rapped round a lamp post in Brixton.

Lovely Capri! Always had a soft spot for these. My dad bought one in 1994 as a ‘get me out of the sh*t car’ as our MkV Cortina had been stolen from my nan’s house in Manchester. Needed a car to get us home 200 miles away and he bought HNB 420V. Despite 15 years of city abuse in Manchester, it drove home without a single issue and he kept it for another 2 years after that. Your Capri looks great, number plate tag for a garage in Denton, Manchester which is where my uncle lives. Nice work Ben!
Last Capri was made on 19 December 1986 at the Ford factory in Cologne, 1,886,647 Capris had rolled off the production lines.
The last Capri made (registered as D194 UVW) still exists today, and is owned by Ford's heritage workshop.
The "Brooklands" models had a steep price tag of around £12,000 and struggled to sell. Sales continued through 1987 and 1988.
Tthe last 280 being registered on 20 November 1989 (registration mark G749 NGP) making it also the only G-reg Capri, and the next-to-last Capri to have been registered - though it is estimated that there are 3 Capri 280s that have never been registered, one of them being a 230 HP Turbo Technics conversion, and two standard cars.[63] Production had ended at Halewood, UK in 1976
The Capri was made exclusively in Germany from 1976 to 1986. Most of those (more than a million) were the Mk I, because the Mk I sold well in North America and Australia, while the Mk II and Mk III were only exported outside Europe (to Asia and New Zealand) in limited numbers.
The Capri is probably the most beautiful car Ford has ever made it looks like it's going 100 standing still and I'm glad you decided to keep it too! A Capri defo suits you brother

Mate you have dropped dead lucky with that capri, the interior is immaculate, very low authentic mileage and the rust hasn't got to it. Jealous as heck with this one, what a find!! Can't wait to see the restoration and if you decide to put some boost under the bonnet.
