Lol, the only time I was issued 782 gear was my year on Okinawa. At Camp Lejeune the only time we got 782 gear from battalion supply was during rifle qualification which coincided with our field training month. Then again we worked for the base general and our orders were non-deployable. MP Co, HqSpt BN, MCB Camp Lejeune. USMC 1994-1998
Wartime Productions Thanks, my service was peacetime though ☺ The USMC doesn't use NAVMC 782 Form anymore? We were still issued canvas shelter halves, those down sleeping bags, Gumby Suits for wet weather (some guys bought their own Goretex). Like I said we were non-deployable working for the base commander, usually a general. So we didn't rate the latest gear back then 😃
I was in 95-99 and did deploy (west pac) and for the most part all of the crap you were issued was the latest gear. When I checked into my unit the one piece of gear I was issued that was new and modern was the sleeping system, two mummy bags and a gortex bivey sack. Then when I was on MEU we were issued vector packs (a bit bigger and an internal frame) instead of Alice packs and a North Face tent. Other than that Vietnam cold war era junk is what we took. Its nice to see they issue decent serviceable equipment these days. I guess that's what fighting two wars for over a decade will get you.
THANKS TO ALL SERVICE MEMBERS FOR YOUR SERVICE & SACRIFICES, ASWELL AS YOUR FAMILIES SACRIFICES, YOU ALL ARE APPRECIATED GREATLY. Approx how much does all your gear weight now with the new upgraded items??
@Joseph Haddakin I was deployed when they changed over and we didn't have access to them. We had to dye or white t-shirts green, and it was funny to see so many shades of green!
nice stuff, I went to boot camp in1976 and our packs and bedrolls were just like John Wayne in the Sands Of Iwo Jima (we looked so cool), then we got Alice packs and we thought it heaven compared to the canvas Light Marching Pack.
WOW in 69 when I was heading to Vietnam they kept telling us you will get the missing pieces when you get there. Never happened.LOL I am happy they don't do that anymore.
I wish surplus gear was easier to find. The gear is well priced and the gear is rugged. Buying the equivalent of an Alice pack and frame is 2 -3x the cost commercially.
Been 8 years since I’ve got out, you have the same gear I was issued at CIF (except now you get the FILBE main pack). During my 5 years I saw a huge transition in gear from 2006 to 2011. Went from OIF tri color woodland vest, LBV, and alligator clip equipment/alice packs to what you have now. Much better equipment. One piece of advice I’d tell all Marines is to NOT machine wash your gortex top and bottoms, they lose their waterproof ability, a scuz brush with water and soap is best. The most worthless piece of gear we got issued that people lost was those stupid k-bar adapters.
POGMarineFPS The Reloading Bench - they are called 'overwhites' and they are just to hide the camouflage pattern you are wearing and have no thermal value
Speaking of KABARs, do marines usually carry them , is it allowed or required, are they issued or does a marine buy his own ? I was Navy surface fleet , and we were allowed to carry folding knives the we purchased ourselves. Fixed blades weren't allowed , but the command usually overlooked small fixed blades of about three inches or under . The issue fixed blade dive knives were for divers and rescue swimmers. SEMPER FI !
Victor Waddell No we are not issued fixed blades during field training events. The problem is that any type of weapons or related accessory is considered SL3 (stock list 3) and is issued by the armory. As an infantry marine in a rifle company, the armory keeps M9 bayonets that can be affixed to an M4 service carbine. However, we so rarely do bayonet training that there’s little value in forcing them to issue it to us (as that would cause the armory more time to associate the rack number of the bayonet to the rifle) and making us grunts carry more weight. Down range infantry marines are issued bayonets though. I also keep a gerber coyote brown partially serrated strong arm fixed blade molled to my plate carrier, which I only carry in the field. I also keep a gerber multitool w/ c4 spike on my patrol belt at all times, and SOG trident which my father acquired me when I was 12 that stays on my person.
So... What's your MOS? Are you ID that is out of rotation? Because also, when I finally get My enlistment packet together once I graduate highschool and get Motor-T after a few ASVAB tries. I want to get all this gear for myself, mainly because "Two is one, and one is none" but also this kind of gear makes heckin useful for the life I want to live when I get out.
A lot of this gear you have to give back. You dont get to keep all of it. Like plate carrier, Kevlar, canteen kit, etc ... They will make you give back when you get out. You can buy your own versions pretty easily though.
I'm a civilian. Firstly thank you for everything, not a cliche; I actually mean it from the heart. Thank you for doing this video. I really do love kit. May I ask a question, I actually don't know much about the military, so, out of kit interest, does the USMC or other Branches, get issued watches? Thank you. Warm regards, DP
Not that I know of... I am sure if it is needed they will get it for the troops. Got issued a Gerber once cause we needed them when working on the range. If you are looking for all around good watch a lot of Marines and other service members wear the GShock watches. I still got a pocket watch cause I don't like big things on my wrists. Hope this helps.
POGMarineFPS The Reloading Bench awesome thank you. I mainly live in the UK. Part of my family are American. Here in the UK the Armed Forces often get issued a watch. I’m just a gear nut, so always ask. Mundane question but I do love asking. Thank you for the reply. / Subscribed. Thank you for the IFAK video too.
Tom Brigden in 29 palms the marines (because they’re training the Mohave desert) still wear the desert marpats. No where else does it make sense to wear deserts in the summer time (because none of the other major installations are in the middle of the desert). However, the desert uniform is thinner and breaths more easily than the woodlands. The marine corps is also testing woodland jungle uniforms that dry faster and breath easier than the standard woodlands.
I am just curious, what is your MOS? Are you really an Office Pogue? What unit are you with? I am an ex 0341 and you are definitely have better 782 gear than we had. Semper FI!
Thanks for the reply. I will say two things have improved since my time, First Aid kits and 782 gear. I was in during the transition to ALICE packs and I thought they were almost no improvement over the old 1941 pack system. You could carry more stuff but the ALICE gear seemed cheap to me. Also the newer ponchos weren't as good as the old rubberized cloth ones, however they would both keep you wet. Your Gas Mask seems to be a real improvement. The M17 masks sucked.
I thought you we're issued a okc3s bayonet? Thank you for your service. My son is a Marine. I bought him one anyway. Can you clarify if the bayonet is issued or purchase. Thanks Marine.
Definitely not issued in garrison. Marines cant keep knives over 3 inches in their barracks rooms, including the bayonet (yeah its stupid). Beyond that, im pretty sure that only deploying combat Marines are issued bayonets.
@@codygrimes9072 no ponchos anymore. We are issued woodland marpet gortex parkas and pants (APECS aka All Purpose Environmental Clothing System if you're interested in looking it up). If deploying, we are also issued a similar dessert gortex parka and pants (light weight exposure suit, part of the Mountian/Cold Weather Clothing System). Way better than ponchos when used as rain gear, and can be used as a shell layer for wind resistance.
No wonder the ILBE is so large, they issue so much gear all that's missing is the chow truck lol. I think I'll stick with the old ALICE pack. Semper FI!

In MCO 1020.34G summarized .Marine Corps Orders can be changed by unit as well. But.. This is pretty much what an ordinary Marines are authorized to wear. Civilian attire similar to Charlie uniform. Which summed up is belt, when there are belt loops present, no plan white shirts no od green shirts (in civilian attire), no uniform items unless it is USMC sweat top, boots, and running top. When in Cammies (Utility uniform/ Marpat Camo). Can not be worn off base. Only going to and from work. NO stopping for gas, no getting out of the car for any reason other than an emergency. I got my name patch for the overalls/flack but it has CPL on it so I added my Sgt rank to it and just bent the pins instead of using the frogs
The only thing I recognised in all this gear was the 782 canteen....ex WW2, Korean War S/Sgt.
