  • Avshi Weingot was your typical American-Israelie boy growing up in the ancient city of Tzfat. His father, a Chaim Berliner and close talmud of Sher Yoshiv's Rav Shlomo Freifeld, started a Yeshiva called Shalom Rav for all kinds of boys. Everyone was invited. Avshi went on his own path and traveled to America until September 11, 2001 when his life drastically changed. Today, he is the Rosh HaYeshiva of Shalom Rav and is one of the most well-respected educators and torah teachers in Tzfas and the world.

Epic! NO beard! Love this Rav! He is realistic and honest about how children are, and how important it is for you as a parent to tell your child that you love them and will support them no matter what they do.

I remember Rav Avshi when he was in the middle of his struggles. He was always a sweet, authentic, introspective person. SO beautiful to see him doing amazing things with other untapped souls...

I decided to watch this video because Rav Avshi looked familiar to me but I couldn’t remember where I saw him until he mentioned that he lived in Long Beach at the same time that I was there. I remember passing him on the streets of Long Beach and when I saw him, I had this feeling that he was what I would describe as a seeker of spiritual truth. It looks like I was correct. I am so happy that he has found it! Thank you for a fascinating interview.

As someone who is old enough to be your mom, I honestly think you look wonderful either way. It now matters more your comfort level and your wife's. Us mothers must take a backseat on this one when our sons marry. I really enjoy the podcast and look forward to each one. We live outside of Lakewood, are conservative Jews and love learning from the young and the old. I believe we all have something to teach and we all have much to learn. Enjoy being a new Daddy! Mazel Tov!

    Yaakov Langer I left u a messenger.
Avshi I remember well as I was, w my daughter, as a single-parent aa a guest by his parents family for Shabbat many times.
I remember well parts of his journey.
And his statement that he felt, in my understanding, that religion/being religious, was just not fun.
I guess that is exactly how I feel.

I loved going there for shabbos in 1984/85. The Weingot’s house was built into the mountain with curved stone walls. I slept upstairs. It was freezing but so invigorating.

You look great without a beard, Baruch Hashem. It's nice to see a young frum person without a beard; it sets an example for people and shows that you don't have to look like a rabbi to be a frum and holy Torah Jew.

Owing to my innate curiosity, I look for distinctions between modern Judaism and a fulfilled Messianic (Y'Shua) perspective. The notion of self-love is one such distinction. A Christian view is that the love of God displayed at the Cross is ultimate love. In other words, no love that we attempt to generate for ourselves comes close. Thanks for posting.

Nothing great as a beard, it wards of middas hadin evdn better to never touch the beard wit any razor like in Chabad. A beard is a symbol of respectful men even thoughther are disgusting people with beards, but great people with beards are even greater.
