But what this shows is a failure of our democratic institutions. The countries which handled this pandemic the worst (US, India, Brazil, etc) all for some reason have a far right and conservative Governments. Our democratic institutions must have been stronger to avoid such demagogues from getting elected in the first place. Though I am not sure it is of any solace to know we are not alone in electing these governments, the solution surely lies in taking a hard look at how we let such people reach the helm in the first place.

@@amitsalunke8824 Actually, Congress is not strong in south. I am frm kerala and congress has base in some parts of kerala and karnataka. Even though vast majority of people in kerala are communist. They vote for the congress in lok sabha as they knew only congress can bring out some real changes. When u look at states like AP, telangana, T.N congress has no stronghold. Nothing more than 4 or 5 constituency. Congress south form alliance with all the regional parties in south and then stop bjp. As congress is performing bit better only at general elections. Congress can stop being vote katwa in states like AP n telangana and actually win seats even if it is less seats.
