@ABI it wasn't nerves. My son, my nephew and my second cousin speak in that manner no matter their mood and they all have autism. The man's manner of speech was mistaken for nerves
he is not nervous, it seems like he doesn't get social cues so he doesn't know what to do. less about being nervous and more about not understanding. definitely seemed like he was on the spectrum. people with autism, not always, but they don't understand the dynamic of social interactions. so its not that they're nervous, many of them wouldn't even know to be nervous because they don't think its going bad, they don't know how its going. they don't know what to base it on. unless they are taught specifically what to do and what certain things mean, that people without autism would just learn through experience, they would just go throughout their interactions not knowing what works and what doesn't. I think John possibly has had social training, but he couldn't recall what to do maybe. Thats just speculation though. If he does have autism however, it is more than likely, that he wouldn't be nervous. He was basically trying to find the answer to a test question, but couldn't solve it in time to make the interaction work. He will have to keep practicing to get the "right answer" socially.

Cody is a very sweet human and always means well, but I think it’s a little insensitive to assume someone is on the spectrum. And if he watches this and he isn’t, that could really kill any confidence he may have. He seems like he’s just anxious and shy and possibly doesn’t date much. Also, he’s a teacher so talking about it he’s “naughty” on camera could be really uncomfortable 🤷🏻♀️
TlDR: John is a cool kid. Finally, my time to shine has come. I have known John for about 20 years, possibly longer. We have been in school together since I think 1st grade, and he is such a kind gentle person. Having grown up near Seattle I knew it was only a matter of time until someone I knew came on. I honestly wouldn’t have pushed the button at all, because he is honestly my type, cute, timid, kinda awkward, and just a sweet person :) i have a lot of issues with authority figures because of trauma, as well as being autistic, i can get very overwhelmed or overstimulated, and have had experiences of people yelling at me, or made fun of for going to louder public places with construction headphones on, as well as having “no manners” when it comes to eye contact, keeping conversation, or not following or understanding different social ques. i’m happy for him that he had the courage to come onto the show, i hope he’s doing well :)
I feel like one of the main things of this show is seeing people reject people based on physical appearance, and so many viewers act like that’s so terrible and superficial (like beef cake rejecting purple hair girl because she didn’t look fit) but like.. preferences are completely natural and acceptable?? ANY preferences are literally fine to have! If you don’t like someone’s look, that’s a completely valid reason to not want to date them. COMPLETELY valid.

I'm Autistic and I'm also not trying to diagnose but my radar was definitely going off for John. The Button would be difficult for people on the spectrum because of the high pressure, social improvisation, sitting directly across from someone trying to make eye contact, and just the myriad of possible sensory issues that could come with that environment. I couldn't do it, props to John.

I honestly wouldn’t have pushed the button at all, because he is honestly my type, cute, timid, kinda awkward, and just a sweet person :) i have a lot of issues with authority figures because of trauma, as well as being autistic, i can get very overwhelmed or overstimulated, and have had experiences of people yelling at me, or made fun of for going to louder public places with construction headphones on, as well as having “no manners” when it comes to eye contact, keeping conversation, or not following or understanding different social ques.
i’m happy for him that he had the courage to come onto the show, i hope he’s doing well :)

I will say, it was very crisp.
I feel like one of the main things of this show is seeing people reject people based on physical appearance, and so many viewers act like that’s so terrible and superficial (like beef cake rejecting purple hair girl because she didn’t look fit) but like.. preferences are completely natural and acceptable?? ANY preferences are literally fine to have! If you don’t like someone’s look, that’s a completely valid reason to not want to date them. COMPLETELY valid.
As someone on the spectrum, thank you Cody. Dating, at least for me is very hard and I think it’s cool that Cody brought a little bit of awareness and understanding
John was such a sweet dude!! As someone who has a brother on the spectrum, it was great to see the button include people just like him! Dating while on the spectrum is kind of taboo, and you hardly see any representation for them on any dating shows! Unless it is specifically the target of the show. I've been watching this series since you started it and ngl some of these videos are hard to watch, but this one really warmed my heart to see

I’m an Autism specialist and work with a lot of people on the spectrum who would love to get confident enough to have such a straight forward and brutal conversation as they just did. I'm Autistic and I'm also not trying to diagnose but my radar was definitely going off for John. The Button would be difficult for people on the spectrum because of the high pressure, social improvisation, sitting directly across from someone trying to make eye contact, and just the myriad of possible sensory issues that could come with that environment. I couldn't do it, props to John.
I’m on the spectrum and I immediately got Autistic Vibes from that guy. He seemed really sweet but it’s definitely way too tense of a situation to put him in if so.
