June 6th should be a national holiday. No question about it.

Not trying to be a spoil-sport Edward, but Memorial Day is only a week prior to June 6th. Remembrance is what Memorial Day is about.

In what country do you mean?
In the U.S., there are already
      - Memorial Day, for war dead
      - Veterans Day, for military veterans
      - Independence Day, to remember the birth of the country that did so much to save the world
      - Thanksgiving Day, for reflection on the good in the world that we live in and have helped to make
      - Labor Day, for reflection on the good in the many kinds of work that people do (think of the Home Front).
Also in the U.S., it is not the custom to make a holiday of the anniversary of the first day of a multi-day battle that occurred more than a year before the surrounding war ended. Even V-E Day and V-J Day are not holidays, nor are the ends of any other wars.
      There are questions about it.

@@smadaf I can think of an entire continent who should celebrate it. I don't care how many holidays surround it.

it would have been interesting to see how FDR handled the end of WW2...

Yes, but it was not in God's plan, especially since he was so sick. The Bible tells us that God sets princes and principalities on high, and He also brings them down low, according to his plan.

He wouldn't have grabbed every scrap of credit for himself like Trump !

Unfortunately, Harry Truman was no FDR. Roosevelt did not support the continuance of colonies, much to English and French chagrin. He would not have been bullied by the French to recolonize Vietnam-yup, that Vietnam- especially when our OSS was arguing for non-intervention by America in what they saw as a legitimate nationalist movement. Also, Truman did not have that visceral connection to Russia that FDR had. He could not imagine what the tying up of over 200 Nazi divisions had cost Russia in terms of loss of life and increased paranoia. And now, when it looks like we have a Fourth Reich trying to establish itself here, without too much opposition, Biden is in charge. May God be with us.

Great documentary, the entire broadcast and photography, very enlightening. I understand this is a earlier time when modern science was in it's infancy yet still it staggers the intellect to hear so much praying and praise for a god given much credit for success but never taken to task for allowing this to occur. Man's history has always been to credit god for the good while assuming guilt against him ( her, it, whatever ) for the bad. Now we are entering a time of knowledgeable reasoning and in the not to distant future the god myths will be recognized as just that, a time when humanity will understand that our failures are ours as are our accomplishments. We need each other because that is all we have, all there is.

One wonders where all this science came from. It’s quite a remarkable thing to appear.

The German Atlantic Wall was meant to be a deterrent.
As soon as it failed in that, they should have abandoned the fortifications and retreated to Germany,
to help the post war situation.
Too bad they couldn't have just invited the non-Russian allies in to the Eastern front.
