- Kirby Smart's defensive roots stem all the way back to his playing days at Georgia, where he suited up alongside Hall of Fame safety Champ Bailey. Later coaching under Nick Saban, Smart developed the Mint defensive formation to combat modern offensive schemes. Implementing this system at Georgia has turned the Bulldogs into a defensive powerhouse.

When I was growing up, Kirby Smart was one of my favorite players at UGA. Its crazy that he's the guy to bring them back to the top, but not surprising. Dude was a relentless player so none of this is surprising.
He was one of mine too! Tough, scrappy & ball hawk. Loved watching him play.

Bro I would love to play for Kirby he holds his guys accountable and they listen he humbled everyone in the room he teaches you rather than forces you he’s producing winners and he holds them to a very high standard he makes them reach higher and higher and he tells them hey never put a cap on your success I love this type of coach only few coaches across the nation has this skillset and the ones that possess it all have won championships and all continuously develop guys their programs are always regenerating with explosive talent it’s crazy that UGA is doing the same

@@obi-juantacobi8552 he said best of all time. 15 years is not enough to look at that esspecially compared to the plethora of great defensive minds the game has had. He’s good but goat status isn’t just achieved cause you’ve has some (albeit quite a bit) of success. If he can continue to innnovate and repeat his success at uga elsewhere then I’d agree.
@@joshramirez2049 his defenses dominated at Alabama for 15 years and now he is on the brink of winning back-to-back championships at his alma mater. once again establishing another dominant CFB dynasty. he has continued to innovate and brought a team back to the national championship after loosing 5 defensive players to the 1st round of last year's draft. his pipeline is ridiculous. he develops players like no other.
@@joshramirez2049 I mean he did show his defensive prowess at, Valdosta, Florida State LSU, Miami Dolphins, and bama. His defense carried those teams for at least one season.
If the OP was trying to say he tops in head coaches I would agree, but in terms of just defensive minds, I would say Kirby is up there. I say that because not all great defensive minds are head coaches. Some of the best defensive minds were horrid as HC's

Good defensive coach but has given up many points to teams with explosive offenses while both at Bama and Georgia
yeah but who hasn't. the game has evolved. it's an offensive game. bama scores on everyone, osu scores on everyone. uga got stops when it needed to get them and that's why they're back2back

Put your money where your mouth is.
As I told others, this is another silly fan comment that is based solely on emotion and hoping for something! Look at the stats, look at the numbers, look at the coach, look at the mentality, look at everything including everything that every team did that these teams played their entire season... Meaning... What did Texas or Oklahoma really do their Entire Season. What did Tennessee and LSU Do their entire season! What was the real competition? What were the strengths and weakness of these two teams in the playoff vs every team they played! You have to really take the time to crunch numbers, or have a computer simulation do this for you! Don't just make a silly comment based off Gut and Emotion! If you think Kirby is not gonna have Georgia prepared like crazy... think again.... He learned from the Goat in Saban! I suspect Dykes will be similar but it's not the same as the intensity of Georgia! Think logically. Either team can win, but don't make score predictions and silly comments based on Emotion!
And just so you know, I made my silly fan comment to so many michigan fans, so many ohio state fans, and so many other fans over the year! Where I told them even TCU will probably beat Oklahoma and Texas... You have to really look at the teams and how they match up against each other! All factors have to be considered... I would never ever make a score prediction... It makes no sense at all!

I underestimated Kirby when he was first hired, but he is much better than I thought. Jimbo is probably the best from the Saban tree, but Kirby is not far behind.
