there's this great theory that EU happens til the point XCOM's base is attacked, and then the Commander is captured and placed in a simulation of some sorts, aiding the Elders against XCOM remnants (EXALT) during Enemy Within, and the result of that is XCOM2. Which explains why it seems you won XCOM but start XCOM2 defeated.

I mean I'd have been sad if they'd said sorry too many people won XCOM, no xcom 2! lol ... aside, before the x-remakes, one of my favorite x-liked was the ufo: after series, which also did the ' game two explores what if you'd Not won the first game'. anyway whatever clever for you, but if you didn't win first chance, I figure no right to complain..the universe isn't about second chances or save-scumming. you lost. 99% or so of us did

But finding this theory helps give more clarity to the story, so I was appreciating that. Maybe I am misreading/misinterpreting (thanks, internet communication), but I'm struggling to find the issue here
Yea, it was my reality that failed to win the war in Xcom1 - I just couldn't get past the underwater base and finally gave up. Sorry chaps! Just started X2 and needed a refresher, brought back some glorious memories :) Thanks!

I've palyed XCom1 quite a lot, i'm playing XCom2 currently, and THIS video still gave me goosebumps. Great work Charlie, very much enjoyed it. I even toyed with playing X1 some more because of it :P
it's old enough that it's not a spoiler imo, but XCOM 2 basically explains thru a retconn how XCOM1 was lost - the commander was kidnapped and used as a living computer to run simulated battles.
Well right here, in the south, the Incas had to wait "some" years until they can be independent. And that was possible just by using their own weapons(Spain) , so this is very similar no?
lol took like 4months to beat xcom enemy unknown to win the war just t! ;o know that xcom never did win and lost and that I have to listen to a creepy black haired sunglasses guy sitting on TV saying that xcom lost (although we WON!!!!!) Love it ;) But anyway loved the vid great job keep up this amazing work!
Avenger gets attacked in every campaign. I’m unsure if you had mods or something, or perhaps you’re LW and they move altered the encounter for you there, but in a vanilla campaign, it’s a scripted event.
@@CharliePryor I wouldn't be surprised if my old computer managed to break the script. Perhaps I'll give it another try and see if I encounter those events, since I've come to learn recently that I haven't had most of these events at all. 👀
@@MrGermandeutsch The XCOM base defense is only part of the Enemy Within DLC. If you just have the base game w/o DLC you won't have a base defense mission.

It's always bothered me that you "win" in Xcom, but then the aliens have taken over in the beginning of Xcom 2

I agree, Played about 70% through XCOM myself so this was a great refresher and conclusion.
I think that the base raid happens only if you capture the alien commander, in my playthrough I killed him since I couldn’t get my stun troop to live.
