Probably because of later recordings, I maturated the shallow opinion that he was a rude pianist, but I have to revise it, he's actually a very fine interpreter, with a very personal and genuine style

Many critics noted that György Cziffra performed worse in his later years. This was most likely caused by the grief he felt from the loss of his only son, Cziffra jr. He died during a house fire in 1981, and since then, Cziffra was never the same. Cziffra also died from a heart attack caused by lung cancer. This disease might've made it more difficult for him to play as he did during his young-middle years, though, I have no idea when this cancer started.
