Which is - I think - the issue with this particular speculative timeline. The idea that M'Quve would've been replaced with a superior commander like Ramba Ral runs into the issue of Zabi family internal politics. You might've ended up with someone better than M'Quve, but their merits as a commander would be secondary to whether or not Kycilia Zabi was satisfied with their unwavering personal loyalty... and I don't believe that's Ral.

I laughed how Commander Kelly from _Code Fairy_ said M'Quve was completely ill-equip to manage a planet wide invasion. The only reason Zeon lasted so long was M'Quve had traitor General Elden telling him Revel's plans.
Ramba Ral would definitely have captured White Base since "Ramba Ral's Attack" which is the episode where Ral was denied his Doms by M'Quve had Amuro locked in the brig for deserting, Ryu away tracking down AWOL soldiers, and Sayla was piloting the Gundam. She does not have the skills to match the Blue Giant. At the very least, her only option was running away to get the Gundam to Jaburo.
Another failure on M'Quve's part was how he conducted Odessa. He relied entirely on Eldren to ignore him and sent the remaining Tri-Stars to the rear to take down Whitebase. The Black Tri-Stars were considered as equal as an entire division so there is no way Kellarny would send them to the rear to take down one battleship not participating in the main battle.
While I think Zeon would have eventually been driven from Earth due to Zabi in-fighting, Char's backstabbing, or by war of attrition. Zeon's real chance of success was to destroy the EFSF before they could get a foothold in Zeon space. That is a different matter.

A fun little thing to consider for anyone who isn't aware that the united maintenance plan is a retcon (originally the alt versions of the classic grunt MS in 0080 and 0083 were just different takes on the MS by different mechanical designers; those versions being variations/improvements was retconned in for ease of representation):
A lot of that plan's success is attributed to M'Quve. It notes that he's apparently a logistics wizard, and that's a big part of what made the whole process work.
My theory has always been that whoever conceived this retcon noticed that M'Quve ostensibly brings NOTHING to the table otherwise and, given his consistently god awful decision making, seems like an odd choice to be put in charge of anything (like, even beyond the strain of usual copouts like nepotism/favoritism/whatever). They thought it was a good opportunity to explain why ANYONE would let this useless POS have oversight of anything more important than a potted plant of some kind.
I'm entirely convinced of this. It makes perfect sense.

More or less the set up to -Z. Though M'Quve lives in that one.
Ral capturing whitebase is a thing in Gihren's Greed if you give him Doms. Though reverse engineering white base is a waste because Zanzibars are cheaper and hold the same amount of Mobile Suits. Usually Amuro manages to escape. So I guess the Extra Gouf, Zaku and pilots were useful in this timeline.
White did have a second gundam, the G-3, but they left it behind on Luna 2 where it got magnetic coating. But its gundam, so of course they had the spare parts to make another Gundam. They had enough to make 16, but Cargo forgot to tell Bright so they struggled. Along with the block of Luna Titanium to make Amuro his shield shapped boomerangs. Those were boomerangs right? Right?...
At Jaburo, they were already producing Gms by the thousand. The first thirty that were complete were even sent as the honour guard for Revil during Odessa. The belief in Mobile Suits was already cemented. They shredded most of the Federations military in days. Though I like the bit about the air force. Outside of the show, they were deadly. Tenneth A Jung got like 20 Zaku kills in a saber fish. Which is badass.
And everyone's favorite. The remanants of the Federation Fleeing to the Asteroid belt and later Jupiter. Where the Fleet sheltered them, as a way to acquire Federation and Zeon Military equipment and sepcification for their own army. After a few years in hiding, they would emerge to return to the Earth sphere and free it from Spacenoid oppression. Only to find the Earth Sphere gripped in a civil war between the Zabis domination and a forgotten pro-Zeon family faction called the AZUG. Backed by aces such as Quattro Bajeena and Amuro Ray piloting stolen Gundams from the Zabi Family.

Amuro and the Gundam were not the greatest direct military asset to the Feds. It was White Base's mission to submit all their combat data to Jaburo that was, because that's what kicks off the space-ready GM for Star One. @NeroLordofChaos Před rokem +18

Amuro's greatest contribution to the Feddies is the fact he's a certified ace killer. Well, that and the fact he revealed the general to be a traitor.
The ace killing is a major factor because there are plenty of aces historically that turned into instructors for new pilots. Most of Zeon's aces by the end of the war were either too busy fighting to stop and train new recruits or in many cases had been killed by Amuro personally like Ral and the Tri-Stars.
White Base and the V Project weapons being captured not only gives Zeon better tech right off the bat (imagine if they had reverse engineered the gundam's reactor and got the Gelgoog running months earlier than canon) but it also means resources devoted to taking White Base wouldn't have been diverted like they were in canon. There's also the fact that if Ramba had captured the Gundam, not only does that prevent his death, it prevents the death of Dozle Zabi and the destruction of Big Zam, both major morale boosters. Anvil Gato wouldn't leave his post assuming the gundam had already been shot down as he did in canon (The legend of the B-Gundam never comes to pass). Amuro not killing certain people when he did causes a massive ripple effect down the line.

  • @NeroLordofChaos

So instead of the AEUG, we get the AZUG. I wonder if Zeon would put together their own TITANS-esque group or not
Another thing is neither side ever sees the potential of extremely powerful Newtypes like Amuro and Char in this timeline since Amuro is either dead or chilling in a prison cell for a significant chunk of the war and Char probably deserted sometime shortly after Odessa.
A lot of the Newtype specialized weaponry would never come into existence...I'm mildy curious on how Blue Destiny goes in this new timeline (Maron is probably trapped forever in the EXAM system).
Conversely, Zeon's MS development is going to go _INSANE_ over the gundams. Heck, I wouldn't be suprised if many mobile suits were completely overhauled once the Gundam's reactor was reverse-engineered to be more efficient, maybe even a few beam compatible early variants.

Canceling the Gyan and using parts meant for it to merge with parts from the Gelgoog to make the Galbaldy Alpha was a better use, as the Galbaldy was a slightly higher performance Gelgoog and could be produced by Zimmad while Zeonic made the Gelgoog, since neither company produced parts for the other's MS designs, at least not until the United Maintenance Plan. From the anime we also know the federation uses the white base as a distraction deliberately because they notice the Zeon military is focusing too much on it. Since Revil is in charge I think there must be some reason that Revil is that confident. Maybe the gundam team is not really that important, it's just they are the protaganists of the anime.

There are variations of this suit, the marine type, the ground type the high mobility type cannon type. The next fan made unit is the tarasque, this unit has some similarities with the gelgoog, armed with beam sabers, a beam hawk, Vulcan guns in the arm, and a beam bazooka. The variations are the ground type, the marine type, and the heavy artillery type. The most famous unit is the jack dragoon custom, it’s painted blue and has a beam bayonet. The next unit is the nebula Gundam. It’s armed with two beam sabers, a beam rifle, a beam shield, a meteor bazooka, and Vulcan guns on the head. It is piloted by dan wolven, it’s special features are its variable armor system, it’s a cross between the striker packs and g armor. It was developed by the galactic federation in the star century, along with its sister units, the force Gundam, the cobalt Gundam, the haze Gundam, and the aphro Gundam. The tarasque and torque were developed by the Kerberos empire. The next fan made mobile suit is the hawker, a mass produced mobile suit, it looks like a cross between the heavygun (trust me, this unit is MUCH better than those) and the strike dagger, with elements of layzner. It’s armed with beam sabers, proto beam rifles, beam shields and regular shields. The variations of the hawker are the marine type, the commander type, the light armor type, and the artillery type. The most famous unit is the Guliver will custom, painted green with a beam shield given to commander units. Any ideas?

Instead I see M'Quve's down fall coming by the hands of our resident group of badasses the Midnight Ferrir core. Just before the battle of Odyessy the Ferrir's comander would see what M'Quve was up given the squad was deployed to the front and realizing the terrible strategy riding on General Elron holding his troops back because M'Quve ordered him too, would use the situation to Zeon's benefit by labeling M'Quve a traitor. Stating the captain was a war profiteer, had kept vital assets from the late Ramba Ral, and sent the Black Tri Stars in blind against the White Base and her crew. And the moment M'Quve protested one of the senior officers would shoot the command structure the captain was in. Now the Midnight Core would redeploy with half the troops going to aide the remaining Black Tri Stars with the other half charges the front lines of General Revals units and is able to score a blow in pushing back the Federation main forces while the White Base is stalled in their advance.
