- In this video I show you guys how to convert the rear end of your E90 BMW to look like the newer LCI model. I show you how to change out your tail lights and swap your trunk lid. We go into the wiring that needs to be modified and I show you how to code the car after to have no errors.
I also install an aftermarket spoiler to tie the look together.
This really modernizes the look of the car and in my opinion makes it look much better.
Now that LCI cars are getting older and are starting to get parted out you can do this conversion for a few hundred dollars if you play your cards right.
We are using the INPA software suite to code the LCI Tail Lights to the car, specifically NCS Expert.
Link to a thread showing how to setup INPA/NCS Expert:

If you have Windows 10 64-Bit:

You can find the INPA cable online at places such as Amazon or Ebay. Search INPA Cable K+D Can.

OMG! I’ve been thinking about doing this for the longest time but was never sure how to besides buying a newer BMW model. Thank you so much 🙏🏽
just came back to thank you! i have just finished doing my conversion. only took me an hour because of this vid. i use a fishing line instead of wire to pull back the harness. :)
I was getting ready to to do exactly that on my 08 335xi. Got the trunk and everything. Glad to see someone show the process of doing it(even though Its fairly easy to do)
Nice, yeah not a hard job at all.
I did the same conversion, did it in a day, didn't need to code the FML lights worked straight off the bat... did the front end conversion too
thank you for the step by step on the coding It helps
For everyone else who is thinking if you can do the coding with Carly, YES you can. It's easier imo. Just bypass the voltage check and it will work just fine.
Whether the adaptation can be done with Carly?
Can It be done with Bimmer Code?
What's a voltage check?
Is that another code? Anyone knows what code that is?
Because I'm trying to ignore parking/side lamp error and it randomly comes back although I set any potential checks and monitors to not active
The wires still have to be switched around using the Carly app correct?
@@groovyvideos2266 Did you find out if it was possible with Bimmer Code?
exactly what im looking for... thank you!!!
Hey amigo!
Super vid, im waiting for my set of LED's this week🤤 super DIY Channel!
Have a great one!
E90 of sweden
excellent job. Anyway what a BMW quality. I myself have an old 325cic and found there are issues on plastic parts. Hard to believe that ur tail light plastics were actually melted due to excessive heat emitted by light bulbs.
BRO GREAT WORK LOVE IT
Nour Hummadi bro u here?
Thank you! Very thorough! Looking at a kit now.
Thank you, thank you, bro!
Awesome channel. Definitely subscribing. Hope to grow with you on CZcams
Great DIY again. Thanks! Looking awesome.
Great vid bro!!!! looking into upgrading to lci my E90 M3
Got rear ended last week - found an LCI trunk today, glad I looked, before I got crazy with "why isn't it working?" on the pinouts, and "WTF?" with the flashing!!!
Thank you man I did it with your help❤❤❤
Could you make a video on how to code out the occupancy airbag for the passenger side, for people who put racing/bucket seats in their car, thanks
the video is very good but there are several responsibilities
first of all do we need to get a new case luggage bag directly?
And will 2006 be the 320d?
Awsome video/upgrade! Newly subscribed! I have a 2006 330xi with (believe it or not) 60k miles on it. Just wondering how you went about the back-up camera addition! That upgrade is the only thing holding mine back from being an absolutely perfect car in my opinion!
I’m planning on cutting a hole in my lci trunk lid to mount the pre lci manual key unlock insert!
I have a 318i e90 but my boot look shorter then the one from pre-lci , is this conversion gonna work on mine !? Much appreciated for you further answer !
the video is very descriptive but what I would like to ask is what applications should I download to do these things on my computer? I have never connected my car to my laptop but it looks easy if you can give me application names
3:55 where did you buy that power filter? also, i have bought my trunk with the harness cut off like yours. did you use the included harness or your existing?
If you could answer my question would be great. Why do you have to use NETTODAT, isn't the nettodat just the values not translated to text? The way I understand it since you already modified your FRM settings when you read your trace (FSWPSW) gets overwritten with you current settings. Then you manipulate it and save as man and write the man file your previous changes don't get lost unless you code a blank file then it reverts to your vehicle order preferences.
i did exactly the same and it work perfectly, just one question . at the last step when i proceeded with the coding, for a quick second the front beams flashed and showed error "front beam dipped" after i restart the key for the second time the error went away! is this common do i need to worry about something or im all good, im only afraid for the ecu nothing els! in the mean time there is no error everything works just fine! thank you for the video
Hi good job Today I converted the rear lights to LCI and everything worked immediately, except for the rear light. How can I get it working again? do I have to re-pin the connector or do something else? please help me
Did you end up with a cruise control issue after swapping in the LED lights? I heard that the cruise control system is deactivated if the brake lights come on (based upon a change in current or something) and after swapping the lights to LEDs the current is changed such that it keeps you from engaging cruise control...
I did the same thing off a wrecked E90 .! But I have so many issues my trunk won’t close properly. My inner running taillights are brighter than the outer ones. Also my reverse lights don’t work at all .! Will coding it fix the problem.?
nice job!
If I have already coded (adaptive headlight delete) and I code this rear left/right taillight, will the adaptive headlight delete come back on? Would I need to manipulate and write at the same time for all my codes to apply?
Do a conversion video of headlights too!
Hello, how could i install a rear camera in an vfl model like 2007 just like you have...lci is to complicated for me but a camera would help...i have also the navi pro...thanks in advance!
Great video like always. Geez, BMW makes some great cars but some things should last the entire life of the vehicle such as window trim, taillights, and window regulators. Your 08 shouldn’t be melted on your old housings.
I think maybe at some point someone replaced tail bulbs without checking wattage therefore higher wattage more heat and melted housing just assumption I don't think bmw would make such a simple engineering mistake but I could be wrong.
@@vitalymaksimovich9967 perhaps because my 01 e46 haven't melted and I've been using correct bulbs
hi! i found a complete boot lid/lights/harness for from a 2011 323i e90. will this fit my 2008 320i e90?
Did you solve somehow a problem with second brake light bulb, which doesnt work in each tail light? Only one works in each tail light, but both should work.
Is there a way u can help me get the coding done. I have tried to download the software on my Computer multiple times but it doesn’t work.
Hi. Can you please put a link to that spoiler? Much appreciated! Thanks!
Easier way to code would be to modify your vehicle order to add the LED tails, then code blank man files to the new vehicle order. That way if there is some oddball german setting that we aren't aware needs to be changed for the retrofit it will automatically be done with NCS.
Hi, i think it's a better option, when the LED fail, then you get an error/warning. How do I do that?
Very nice
Where can i buy the tailight tint???? That looks good
Just a fast question, is it just to change it and that's it or do you have to reprogram it or something else? It just fits or?
What did u do for the light? Trying to fix mine beacuse the last owner did just connect the lights to the foglights in the back for the facelift part to work😬
The only swap cable is in Inter ( trunk ) light? On the outside ( body ) light not needed?
Hope you can read this but will the coding work with PROTOOLS?
Thankyou for this!
Wait I’m confused on how this work? You just buy the loo taillights. And the lights that are in the trunk, have to replace the trunk with a actual lci trunk??
also working on the e91 ?
I saw in the video you somehow re-pinned the connector, unfortunately I didn't understand everything. can you explain it to me please
I thought about this but figured it wouldn't really matter. There is big different in the hood for pre lci and lci but I don't think even average e90 owners will know the difference. Only people going to forums like e90post will notice 'hm that car is pre lci in front but has lci tail lights' LOL
This conversion respray included costed me 308€ after selling the prelci rear lights. Not bad i would say
Great video!
Question though..
I was under the impression that the LCI tail lights also require an FRM II along with wiring that needs to be ran all the way from the tail lights to the module itself?
Assuming yours came with FRM II already, aside from changing pin out and coding, what about the wiring running to the module itself?
Thanks!
Also, what would be the deal with this harness kit? I believe this is an OEM part that could be attained from the dealer. How did you get around not having to use this?
www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-3-Series-E90-E91-2007-2008-Tail-Light-LCI-GENUINE-Retrofit-Cable-Harness-SET/263562126760?epid=2111741023&hash=item3d5d86e5a8:g:e1oAAOSwo4pYSScH
Thanks! Yes I already had an NFRM2 from the factory. I just repined the existing harness which I go over in the video.
So technically if I don’t care about the codes it brings up or them flashing fast could I just run them without coding?
thanks!!
Could i do this on a pre lci bmw x3 e83?
Would you have a f22 bmw 2 series tail light conversion?
How does one get the revtor profile?? I cant see it on mine
My Reverse light diddnt work. Any help, idea?
Ok so basically just gotta buy a new trunk, I could do the same from a DIY to an LCI tailight then right?
Can u do this with an aftermarket trunk lid?
@vehicularDIY do you have link for spoiler?
My Trunk boot lights doesn’t working anymore, the rest does. Any fix ?
How were you able to make your gauges white?
mine won’t latch, oem too. Any idea?
Do the inner lights need coding?
Do you have a shop to make the coding. I live in Houston
Nice
Hi. I have a 2006 e91 and I need to replace my boot lid (trunk). I’m thinking about replacing it with a LCI version to modernise the look. If I leave the outer lights for now as pre LCI and just replace the inner lights to the updated ones, does that mean I won’t have to do any coding?
Also, I don’t have the idrive in case that makes any difference. Thanks
Nice.
Its possible in a 1 Series E87 LCI please help ?
Does INPA software work on windows 10?
I honestly didn’t watch the video but I gave you a like because I see you put a lot effort in it. But I have a question: Can I do the same with my BMW E90 2005 ?
Thanks, yes as long as its am e90 you can do this. You will have a first generation body control module so your coding will be a little different.
Vehicular DIY can you do this with touring model?
@@VehicularDIY can you contact me and send me more info about 2005 year model coding ?
@@lera6106 can you help me with some info about the 2005 model coding?
Hi . Is it possible to do the same on bme 116 2014
are those just the drl tail lights on?
Hi! I also wanted to do this but I read in some forums that this conversion It's hard to do on a bmw from 2006, is that true?
And if isent can you kinda do a list of everything you need to buy for this? Like even all the coding parts or whatever those are.
I would really appreciate it
I believe you need to ensure that your car has a 2nd generation footwell module. NFRM 2. If it doesn't you can upgrade that first then do the LCI conversion.
So I need to code my car for this to work?
can I read the frm file, close NCS, disconnect the laptop from the car, modify the file and upload it later ?
hi bro..CHASSIS is faulty after select E89 model..help bro
Have you ever dealt with the FRM Module in this car? Mine died, and I ordered a used one but it needs to be coded to the car to work properly (some things won't work at all, and I think the window switched can be screwed up sometimes)
Yeah you need to encode the replacement module with your VIN, you can do so using a program called NCS Expert.
Ohh man that e30 :)
What BMW trunk did u use
That e30 tho 🥴😍
too old now, they are a classic and cool. I'd never own one now tho
I have a 2005 E90. Is this possible with my FRM1 if I follow like what you did in this video? I saw on the forum that it's possible with FRM1 but I'm no expert. Please help.
Yes it is possible i done my car week ago with frm1 the steps of coding are a litle bit different but pretty much the same
Does anyone know how to do the conversion in reverse?
Where do you buy the lights lol
Can you do a similar one for the bonnet/hood?
Kiwi TeeTee Hey yeah I'm thinking of doing an LCI conversion for the front also.
Could I pay u to remotely program my taillights
Did you end up using lock/actuator from the lci trunk lid or did you swap that over too?
Yes I did. No need to move my old one over.
Vehicular DIY I just gathered all the parts for this. It is nice to finally have a video on youtube for this. This lci upgrade really revives the car!
I also don’t have fold down seats and the manual lock/key hole on the lci trunk tho :
So I also did the conversion. Everything works except for the inner brakelights, only the outers go on when braking.
Anyone has an idea? Posted a vid on my acc if you want to see what I mean.
I have a bmw e92 335 from 2007 u dont happen to know how to code out the error that comes from installing led i fog:s? I have working inpa ncs etc installed om my laptop. Would help out alot @Vehicular DIY
Martin Klasson code out cold/warm bulb checks in light module.
Никола В. I have done that but it still warns for them most be some more line i need to deactivate
Can you make a video on your back up camera?
I'm redoing that soon so I'll make a video on it.
With the red film, were the reverse lights still mostly white?
Kyle C Surprisingly yes.
track at the end please?
Im very excited.. until the coding/laptop part.. im lost..😭
Can I use the Carly app? To code app the trunk? Will it work the same way?
Nick Bowater yes that would be nice to know
No it won’t work
could I change the max rpm with that software?
I don’t think that’s a good idea? Lol
Can u help me? W the wiring
I bought a 2008 bmw 328xi from copart auto auction and it’s crash from its left headlight and the wiring looks pretty fuck up i don’t know if you can do a video about it
Are you talking about deteriorated headlight wiring? Cracking from age? If so I have a video on my channel on that already.
You don't need to repin the loom, at least not in the UK, my pre lci loom plugged straight into the new lights
Does it need coding in the UK?
