I made a table entirely out of epoxy! I used total boat thick set fathom to make this modern cafe style table. I used a CNC to cut MDF pieces that I then used to make a silicone mold. This is not really a true DIY project even though I did DIY it myself. The silicone molds are expensive and I plan on making a few hundred tables to get value out of the time and material cost. I drew the designs on illustrator and then exported as DXF files for easel software which is the free tool I use for CNC projects. I actually kind of like how the MDF prototypes look so I think I will turn that into an actual table. if you don't have a CNC you could do a similar style table with a jigsaw. Here is a video where I did just that.

Your plants are pothos, not ivy. Cool table!
oops! thank you for letting me know!
The wooden version of this table is so sick!!
This is seriously brilliant
Being clear epoxy you could add a glow powder to the mix for a bit added night time effect.
That’s very interesting! I would’ve thought that purely resin pieces this big would be brittle…allot of possibilities there!
Thank you! Cheers!
I like the color it is right now. you are correct it is futuristic
I’m honestly excited to build furniture out of MDF like this 😅 Thanks for the inspo
You're a MAD MAD MAD scientist Ben!! So freakin cool Man. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
thank you!
“Ivy” killed me
was it poison?
Great work. Love the part where you explain your thought process on how you designed the table itself.
Glad you liked it!
Wow this is amazing🤩🤩🤩🤩 excellent job congrats
Love this build 🖤
Always enjoy seeing you experiment. Cool space-age looking table! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Cheers!
That is GORGEOUS!
thank you!
That’s really interesting. However, I’m concerned it may distort or melt if exposed to direct sunlight for too long
Really cool idea. Impressed that you were able to pull this off with resin.
Glad you liked it!
I love the invitation. And the planning and care into this design is amazing
Yay, thank you!
Really enjoying this series! I always enjoy your content, very informative.
Glad to hear it!
Love it!
That is gorgeous! I want an epoxy table with plants under it!
glass top with a plywood frame would work too!
Blown away by your creativity and execution! You nailed the sea glass effect! 😍😍👏👏
Thank you so much 😀
I wonder if making an mdf mold and spraying it with plasti-dip or some sort of silicone spray would be a cheaper way to make a mold.
it might but probably wouldn't hold up as well over multiple uses
Epoxy and sunlight don't really get along. It will be interesting to see how this ages. A yellow or orange tint may help hide UV degradation.
yes! I am curious to watch how it ages too
Might want to go the other way. A light purple tint would go more neutral (white) as the epoxy yellows over time.
Love it❤
Woah! Very cool!
thank you!
Great video. Out of this world table. Mahalo for sharing! 🙂🐒
Glad you enjoyed it
very elegant molding setup, seems like you conserved a lot. as always, impressed with your creativity and your process. I can see how the Hoek table you mentioned flowed into this table
addendum: i believe a terrazzo type pigmentation in the top layer might be interesting. large red and cyan pigments, maybe some smaller mint green in there
yes very much inspired by hoek
Could you do an experiment with epoxy granite as an ultra ridged base alternative to cast iron? Maybe replace a cast iron base from and old tool/machine? (kinda annoyed by calling the pothos Ivy but whatever, I'll allow it if you can do epoxy granite)
Very cool!
thank you!
Very cool.
There is an illustrator script that gives you the area of odd shapes easily 🙂
yes! I have seen a few of those!
awesome idea! isit possible to use ultra clear epoxy for such a large table or just use acrylic instead? not sure which is more cos effective... would love to hear your comments
yes it is and the clarity of the epoxy has more to do with the finish than the type
Beautiful table! Love the sea glass look.
Are the legs inspired by Theo Jansen's artworks? The Strandbeest?
I want an x-Carve Pro 😭❤️
Looks really cool! But wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to combine thick sheets of acrylic and sand them afterwards to the achieve the same look?
I priced thick acrylic from 3form and Eplastics and it was a bit more expensive.
Hey, give us an update on this table. 6 months after maybe? Also what was the mask you where using? Love to get one.
First to the party. Very interesting build. Nice work!
thank you for coming!
Holup! I haven't seen this space helmet before! What is this contraption, I need that!
You can estimate the volume from the weight. I expect the density of MDF is consistent. Weigh the MDF before you cut it. If you start with a rectangular sheet you know the area and the thickness, and therefore the volume. You could compute the density but you don't need to.
Now weigh the pieces that form the mold: the outside frame and the inside filler pieces. Subtract that from the original weight of the stock to get the weight of MDF that is not part of the mold. Divide that difference by the original weight if the stock to get the fraction of stock that is not part of the mold. Multiply that fraction by the original volume if the stock to get the volume of silicone you will need.
The above doesn't measure the "base" if your mold. That is an easier area to guestimate than the actual form though.
I love the end result, however, I don't know why, but I don't like the end result color.
I wonder what other clear colors could come through well.
You in a space helmet- hot.
thanks!
Nice tabel! How about blue? Can't you grow sprouts "don't know the english name" under the table. Think it's very good on a cheese sandwich for breakfast. Saw your beautiful sister. When will she post next time? Waiting for her big project.
sprouts in jars would be great!
Bro I am ur one of the subscriber from India, would you tell me the arts design app? Love from India
very unique table. very uncommon. I'm curious about your other work
Thank you very much check out my instagram @benjaminuyeda
i think the pothos (not ivy) will grow better there than herbs, it's pretty easy going and low maintenance, and will look great like you said as it grows and trails through the legs
yes! pothos not ivy!
I've been following a youtube channel called Leggari Products for over a year now, and they have a TON of epoxy ideas. Including doing a top coat for tables, counters, and what not. I'd highly recommend checking them out, you don't need to purchase their materials since they are expensive, but just following the way they do things, is pretty neat and worth learning about.
Thanks for the info!
@@HomeMadeModern Your more than welcome, I try to share out things that others might be able to use or appreciate when possible. So I hope that you get either some good use, or things to twist your own ideas up.
Smooth on is a CZcams pushed business that’s why you pay a lot more!!
pay more than what? if you know of a cheaper alternative with the same specs let me know and I will try it. I am not sure what you mean by "CZcams pushed business". Smooth on is not sponsor I mentioned it because when I don't I get a lot of questions.
You and Cam (Blacktail Studio) must think alike! See his video on the bent Epoxy table
I met Cam at WorkBench Con very smart guy and incredibly skilled!
Awesome design, BEn, and it is so inspiring to see the whole proces!
I would try not a coloured, but a clear epoxy, but I doin't know if that would be equally strong?
N64 Atomic Purple
Speaking of Epoxy warping by the sun. If y'all haven't watched Blacktail Studio's most recent video, definitely check it out.
yes, slow and low heat can make some epoxy flexible
Are you selling these tables?
yes I have 2 clients that want one and I will charge $4000 per table
Pure epoxy in the sun 💀
add lights in it!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't want a cord to the wall but I will make a light that hangs above
Make it Ryobi green
good idea!
Oml, never been this early 💀
thank you for coming!
could you just pour out a slab of epoxy and then cnc it to make the table pieces. Please dont attack me. just asking
Yes, but it would be much more expensive. With this, the form costs a lot of money but you can reuse it.
Also, cutting/routing/jointing cured epoxy will rapidly wear down your bits and blades.
yes! it is possible and probably a better way to make 1 table but I want to make a few of these for an upcoming real estate development
@@HomeMadeModern Yes, that makes a lot of sense. I rewatched it after i commented and saw when you said that you plan on make hundreds more. Anyways, thanks for replying
The plant is pothos not ivy
thank you! noted!
How do you know its name?
@@gauseb The same way you know the name of your toy cars.
Please polish it some more, I'm sure people would like to se a transparent version
I hope you aren't still running Established Titles as a sponsor.

working on it but in the meantime please address me as Lord Ben :)
How much does the table weigh? It looks lovely and doesn't seem to be too large, but I know epoxy pieces can be heavy....
Ewww...
