      Hi Kimmo, unfortunately you cannot create a Gannt chart from the Milestones app. This app isn't meant to be a robust project management app such as MS Project or even as detailed as Tasks by Planner & To Do. Rather, this app is meant to demonstrate the type of apps that can built for use in Teams when built on the Power Platform (i.e. Power Apps, Power Automate).

    Milestone cannot work in private channel. In a public channel, everyone can see all the projects in the Milestone even though they are not a member of the project. Where is the privacy? This really sucks!

    • @LuiIacobellis
      @LuiIacobellis  Před 3 lety

      Hi Rick, I’m not entirely sure what the rationale was for not being able to use the sample apps (including Milestones) in a private channel. From a technical perspective, it is confirmed that you’re unable to in the sample app “Known Limitations” documentation. See link below. Private channels inherently restrict visibility into the members which is implicit in the term “private” and the apps need to be able to access members to function properly. Too bad, as there are probably some legitimate use cases to add this to a private channel!

    Why did Microsoft create this as a separate App? Wouldn’t it have been better to add the milestone capability to their existing Planner App, so that plannner tasks can be assigned to milestones?

    • @LuiIacobellis
      @LuiIacobellis  Před 3 lety

      Hi Rob, Microsoft has released several "sample" app that are built using its Power Platform (i.e. Power Apps & Power Automate). This is one of them. These sample apps were primarily built to showcase their Power Platform & more so how it can be used to extend the functionality of Microsoft Teams. To the best of my knowledge, this app (along with the others) don't have a roadmap & will not be enhanced by Microsoft. I do agree with you that perhaps adding a milestone layer to Tasks By Planner & To Do would be a good feature.

    • @navjotmarwaha
      @navjotmarwaha Před 3 lety +1

      As Luigi mentioned, these are sample apps that are primarily focused on showcasing the types of applications you can create with Power Platform - Microsoft's low code application platform. Once installed, one has full access to the source code of these apps and you can customize and extend these, including integration with tasks / planner. In fact, one of the other sample apps called Issue Reporting (aka.ms/TeamsIssueReporting) is exactly that. It is a front end interface to manage issues reported by first line workers. Back end is based completely on tasks. You can take the "recipes" from Issue Reporting app and apply it to Milestones to integrate with Planner. Hi Raymond, unfortunately you cannot create a Gantt chart through this app. This app is a lightweight project management app that essentially just tracks work items that will drive completion of higher level Milestones or work packages. Additionally, you could also connect a third party analytics tool such as Power BI to the underlying data for reporting and visualization. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.

To export the data to excel you would need to access the app from the Microsoft Teams Power App app. This gives you an option to view the underlying data where you can copy & paste into excel (I don't think you can export from here). In my experience most of these require a licence and/or additional costs. Microsoft Project is one example. To use it within a Team however, users would need to be licenced to use it. Other third party apps that are available for use within Teams include Asana, Smartsheet and Zoho Projects. I do have a tutorial on using Zoho Project within Teams. This is a great question. This app wasn't published as a replacement to Tasks by Planner and To Do. It was really published to showcase the extensibility of Microsoft Teams when using the Power Platform. After testing it, the only feature present here that isn't in Tasks By Planner and To Do is the fact that this app has a dashboard built in that displays percentage complete. As a result of that, perhaps if I ever wanted to manage a project or deliverable and have some minor reporting be avaibale without consuming effort to create, I may consider this app. However, personally I don't see enough differentiation between this and Tasks by Planner and To Do to persuade me to make this my primary task and or project management app in Teams.
