This week we have a lot going on with sales figures for Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and PS5 hardware. Which thus far, is actually on a downward trend year-on-year. We also have Sony updating the console with new multiplayer features, AND enhancing the redesigned Explore Tab which is still in beta. For reference:
PlayStation 5 sold around 550K units in March in the United States (this year), surpassing the sales figures of any March for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
Last year, the PlayStation 5 sold 660K units; the numbers are simply too substantial to keep increasing indefinitely.

As a Client Delivery Executive myself for the IT industry, believe me, neither my CFO or my Stakeholders care if the numbers were too high for us to keep up with the trend.
We care about revenue and units, this will translate to software sales and subcriptions. They need to ask themselves (and im sure they are) "Do we need to look at the price of our console? do we need to incentivice its sale by adding a free game or a month's subcription? Good games were launched on our end, so definetely they dropped the ball somewhere".
The number of units dropped compared to last year, and they had it all in order to see an increase.
So nope, sorry but believe me, thats not a valid explanation.

100% right. This is where YoY sales data isn’t always useful, context is important.
Another reason Helldivers 2 sold so well is because it was actually fairly priced as opposed to most games this generation.
Well, it's more like an app on the ps5, because you need ps+ and because it's a live service game, it makes more sense that more people are buying on pc.
Games are less expensive right now than they ever have been. If the price of games kept up with inflation the average game would cost over $100 right now. Do I wish they were cheaper? Of course, but let's be fair. We're getting more for our money than EVER, by a long shot.

For the 30% drop in PS5 sales it makes sense. we must not forget that compared with last year and the first 3 months of 2023 we are a historic record in terms of sales. To put it simply, Sony sold 6.3 million PS5s worldwide in Q1 2023 while in general we are around 3 million. So yes it makes sense to have a -30% this month
Arthur Gies has always been a huge Xbox fanboy. I’m highly suspicious of any claim he makes about PS games being day and date on PC.
Playstation games coming day/date to PC is every Xbox fanboys wet dream right now, as they’re still upset about the Xbox brand losing it’s exclusives, and they desperately want Playstation to be in the same boat.

I highly recommend Tunic as well. If you have not played it, you must! The game is truly unique and magical. Beating it feels like a true accomplishment.

Yeah that’s not going happen. Their was rumours they were working on emulation but that was years ago, prob had too many issue. Ps3 used IBM CELL Cpu with very old Nvidia gpu. Would require too much recoding to get games work fully correctly with Zen 2/RDNA 2 Gpu.
What you mean by external devices? If your talking portable HDD/SSD? That already works fine now. It’s how I played many of my old ps4 games off old 500 GB HDD. Moved all ps4 games to USB HDD. Till I was able upgrade my ps5 with nvme 1 TB Ssd.
@@SireDragonChester Honestly, emulation shouldn't be an issue. There are PCs that emulate PS1,2,3 games that are less powerful than a PS5. Sony's just greedy and young consumers are dumb enough to buy remakes and remasters instead of putting their foot down and demanding backward compatibility. By external devices, I meant some sort of external disc drive that could read the older CDs.

Ah yeah external disc player wouldn’t be need. Ps5 blu ray is already capable of reading old ps1/2/3 discs. Consider ps3 was first blu ray player back in what 2006? It would just come down to good emulation software. I know it’s would be possible. Emu for ps1/2 isn’t the issue. It would be ps3 games that would cause issue. As many the studio that were around back then. Most them are dead now.
Yes it’s possible run ps3 games on ps5. Just getting run many game to run good enough is the issue.

The sales data for all of the games is pretty neat. Mostly expected stuff but a couple surprises here and there.
With Horizon, remember they did the same with Spider-Man. Removed the PS4 version when the PS5 remaster was finally released separately. As for TLOU, that is a big difference. Horizon is potentially just a remaster/upgrade like Spidey was, TLOU was a full blown remake, so was no need to remove the PS4 version seeing that in itself was a remaster of the PS3 game.

releasing single player games day and date on PC means lower quality games. Many devs have voiced the benefits of focused development for one device. Potentially more money for Sony but less quality games for console owners.

Fallout 4 upgrade isn't available for me from my Plus licence. All that's available is the PS4/PS5 catalogue licence, which would overwrite my original Plus Collection licence.

21:17 - It's not _just_ the outfits, it's also that they toned down the gore and completely removed the aspect of how it no longer appears when it sprays on her. Other characters in other games get covered in blood, that's an aspect of the game that shouldn't have been removed, especially since we see it in games like Baldur's Gate and Witcher and TLOU. They told us who purchased that we'd get that, and they lied. That's the issue.
My only problem is that you can barely see the background.. I wonder if with the customization, can you make all the tiles small so that the background is more visible? That would be perfect.
This outfits aren't even the most revealing outfits in the game so it definitely isn't censorship. I believe them. I just wish they didn't cut the blood splatter on Eve when she cuts aliens apart.
There's outfits where she has mini skirts that result in the player constantly lookinh up her skirt when she walks and specially when she runs, it's wild and I can't get used to it 😂

Ryan this one is why you are my go to for PlayStation news. You are one of the realest in this space and I respect you for acknowledging reasons for the lack of revenue for Sony. I know that I for one can't purchase the games that I'd like to upon their release date lately. I don't like how sales are down for console's with disc drive though, which is probably a result of the times too, but you made a valid point when it comes to buying consoles with disc drives versus solely digital. Why limit what you can play? I will always be a advocate for physical media, whether it be games or movies. It's nice to be able to have more options. The sales data was really interesting to learn about!
I think it makes absolute sense that console sales are down. Here in Germany last year this time around every department store was blowing on all horns that they finally have PS5 in stock. So everyone who still didn’t have one but wanted to buy did so (including myself). And it’s the middle of the lifecycle, of course sales will be down. But I guess not every business analyst can see that two plus two equals four.
I’m enjoying some of the updates that Sony is bringing into the ps5 ecosystem. I really wish they’d work with apple on a remote play like Spotify has to control music while gaming. Random but one of my little first world issues

It's good to see all these new Playstation titles selling well.
Stellar Blade is actually a very, very good game. It does a lot of the things that people have been asking for. It's original. It's taking a lot of risks. There are no microtransactions. It was a finished product at launch. The devs clearly made a game with passion, not cash in mind.
Yet, people are overlooking this game because of nonsense.
I'm no lifing it and still missing two camps xD I think they're two phones out in the Great Desert but I'll find them 😋
That sales data reminds me of how many PlayStation Exclusives they are. And that is impressive.
I feel like I have an unpopular opinion but I like staggered releases like console first and PC later or vice versa because 9 time out of 10 the quality of the game ends up being much better. I feel like when you have to split your engineers to push two or more platforms all at the same time we end up with lesser quality.
Sony does offer a disk drive now though which I’m sure helps I got my digital addition during the holiday sales for 399 then just waited like 4 months to have now finally grabbed a disk drive i’m sure I spent more in the end but like you said with economy at the time that was the best deal for me so I wouldn’t be too concerned yet if you buy a digital system you are not completely locked into the PS store yet you have the option to grab disks and a drive later unlike xbox

Arthur Gies is not a reliable source for rumors. He was one of the guys pushing the idea that the XB1 had some secret software update that would make it way more powerful than the PS4 last gen.
Do you expect a price drop coming soon on consoles considering the low sales of q1, or do we need to wait offers and bundles of holiday season 2024?
I think that was due to the SM2 slim bundle (digital) which was $399.99

It makes complete sense that hardware revenue is down because of two reasons. First of all, people are struggling to pay the bills in general atm. So buying a gaming console is kinda low on the priorities list right now. But secondly, they really haven't dropped the price of these consoles sufficiently. PS4 was at times 50% off in its 4th year on the market. PS5 first got more expensive, but then when they did do discounts, it would only be like 10% off (compared to the original launch price). The slim console is more expensive (in Europe) than the original version was at launch. It makes no sense from a consumer's perspective.

If Sony buys out Paramount, then we might see way more content on that movie/show app. I forget the name. But that would trickle down to free content for PS+ users. It also could mean the Paramount subscription would eventually fade out and be replaced with an all Sony one. That's my guess. Every company wants a streaming app. Sony now has theirs and just would need to add the content.
I'm wondering if the latest Steam link requirement to PSN accounts for PC purchases of Helldivers 2 will allow the earning of PSN PC trophies.

They should put an APU temps toggle for people who want to monitor temps. It is better for everybody, including sony. It is easyer to tell people "this temperature is normal" on the phone than having to RMA a half broke overheating console.

Regarding the Digital Consoles...
I have a PS4 in my living room, when I just want to pop in a disc and play or if I want to watch a movie. That's the only disc console I have. Other than that I only have the Xbox Series S and the PS5 Digital. Especially since here where I live, you don't pay 50 bucks more for a disc drive, but instead you pay 100 bucks more. And I can save these, and still play most of my favorite games.
Oh and I'm not bound to the PS Store. I have my ways of getting codes for very cheap.

The rumored big 2025 release maybe Bloodborne PS5 version and PC release?? People have been hounding them for absolutely ages. Bloodborne still being within the top 15 of most sold PS published games of all time and them STILL not giving us a patch, PS5 version, or PC port is crazy.

Why is the explore section only available in the US?
The issue with stellar blade was that they came out a few days before release and said the game will be uncensored in all regions and then claim "the day one patch outfits were intended as the final versions". That is the dumb part of all this.
The outfit changed in Stellar Blade are way more than 2. I like the game, and I've still bought it, but there's no need to hide that fact.
I have a disc console, but have never put a disc in it. In fact, I haven’t bought a disc since the 360/PS3 days. If the Pro offers a digital only console, then I plan to save some money and get that.
I play my PS4 discs on mine, mostly Gundam Breaker 4: Break Edition
There's a little inconsistencies in this game list no.482 Resistance: Fall of Man and no.458 Resistance 2 did release in america but it shows $0
There's no question that selling on PC on day-1 will cannibalize sales and will absolutely harm their larger platform strategy... it's really a question of if it's worth it. They'll likely give it a try for a non-established IP to see how it does and go from there. I personally would love it if they sold all their 1st parties on PC day-1, as I could just be PC only and get all the games at higher quality and performance. It'd also have a huge impact on PC release quality since the game will be built for it, instead of a low effort afterthought.

The sales totals on the list would be skewed to favor games only playable on the PS4 and PS5. Based on Playstation's refusal to embrace backwards compatibility, unless pre-PS4 games were released as Classics for long-term purchase on the store, they missed sales for two generations in a growing base.
