- Looks like we had some breaking news tonight where a brand new PS2 game showed up on the PSN backend. And we know for certain it's new, because the store description tells us this is indeed a PS2 game getting re-released on PS4 AND PS5 with the updated emulator features that the PS1 and PSP games got. So that includes the bump in resolution, the save states, rewind, and video filters. Let's go over the details and also discuss why we might want to keep expectations in check. I'm certainly excited, I tried to hide it, and I was able to keep control, even though I liked it.

Gosh, we didn't even receive the God of War games from the PSP (probably because their HD version is available via cloud-streaming from the PS3 version) I'll really be surprised if they include the PS2 one.

Their original movie release strategy, before home recordings, was to rerelease their movies into cinemas every few years because they’d catch a brand new audience, which relies on preservation.

I just hope they update the old releases to the new emulator, It's been rather frustrating that several of them like Ape Escape 2 are just unplayable on PS5.
Still not enough, they just need to let us have the emulator and we play what we want from our discs.
I'll upgrade to the pro if it allowed you just putting a PS1/PS2 disc and calling it a day.

PCSX2 has widescreen patches (even 60fps patches) for almost every major PS2 game. I'm hoping to make use of them for the future PS2 re-releases.

It'd certainly be great, but WB games is weird when it comes to rereleasing legacy MK Titles.
The only legal ways to obtain new copies of the Arcade-era games these days are GOG and Arcade1Up Machines. And the only legal way to play them on modern consoles is via Antstream on Xbox, iirc.
If we're getting more Star Wars games on Ps plus especially from the ps2 Era, I'd love to see the Revenge of the Sith game get added

I want Gran Turismo 4 and Gran Turismo 3 on PS Plus.
Because as much as I enjoy playing it on one of my PS3's, it would be a lot easier to play them on my PS5.
Gran Turismo likely won’t be showing up on the classics list due to car licensing unfortunately.
Gran Turismo Sport is a PS4 game and has been digitally delisted already.

That's Microsoft property and honestly there is nothing stopping them from bringing all PS2 era Crash and Spyro games back. Outsides of a few licensed games like 50 Cent Bulletproof or IPs owned by banks like Shadow Hearts, I think almost every other title is fair game to return whether it's official "classics" emulation or a remaster.

SW Bounty Hunter as a PS2 port unfortunately didn't have save states or rewinds when I feel for a certain trophy it needed them. Glad they're doing it now.

@@Hockeyhobo89 You could, but the problem is when bounty's randomly launch themselves off the map. Several levels in particular had bounties just disappear. If even one throws themselves off a cliff you have to replay the entire level over and over until you get lucky.

@@ericmartinperez929 The only reason we have as many PS1/PSP games as we do right now is because this time they WEREN'T pushing devs to include trophies. People don't understand that the process of adding trophies in the first place is intensive on dev resources, let alone for these old ass games that were never designed for them. So the motivation/incentive to do so is low for them

As someone who never owned older PlayStation consoles, I'd be happy even if it was just Sony published PS2 games. Ratchet and Sly would already be so cool to have playable again.
You can play those on ps premium using the ps3 streaming.

I Have a PS3 but I also personally have taken advantage of it since I still have a premium subscription, some of them Ps3 games can be quite expensive now to buy Physically. £160 would buy you two new games maybe so you're getting your moneys worth and you can pay monthly and miss some months if you aren't using it.

I really hope they do go back and update those older PS2 emulations. So many of them have problems on PS5, even on PS4 they weren't perfect. I don't mind if it's done gradually due to the small team, as long as we get fixes.

What they need on the PS5 Pro and ps6 is a backwards compatibility disk drive it will have the same format as the Xbox when you put the disc in it automatically download the game from the store
I'd rather have real backwards compatibility tbh, no servers to worry about, but about digital games, access to old PSN store purchases is also a must.

@riceeatr4205 Yeah, I'm still holding out some kinda hope for those games. There was also the Nvidia leak a few years back that mentioned a new Onimusha game. It still has not been confirmed though.
They did remaster the first one, but that's it sadly.
@@TheFurryInShambles They didn't even do that one right. The original Xbox version of the game is enhanced and they left that to rot in the console, they only brought the inferior PS2 version back. Funnily enough, a similar thing happened to Fatal Frame 2 and Tenchu Wrath of Heaven. Forgotten "enhanced" versions that I doubt even the publishers remember them.

I would love, Mystic, to see the timesplitters trilogy being on the new emulator with trophy support. I bought a PS Portal cos I'm ill a lot of the time. And gaming in bed with those games would be awesome. Pac-Man World 2 and 3 would be a bonus. Certainly think the portal is a good buy. Although £200 for a glorified remote player might put off some.
