  • It was with us for 12 months, but thanks to COVID and its numerous lockdowns and border closures, the mighty Musso only racked up 10,000km during that time.
It got up to the Victorian High Country a few times, supported numerous road tests and photo shoots as our photographer’s car, and there were a couple of interstate drives squeezed in there when we could.

They are by far the most underrated ute on the market. I own a short wheelbase version, top of the line model with leather, electric seats and sunroof, and it has been excellent, especially since I drive long distances. They are quite capable, and also well built. And so QUIET to drive.

I've had my XLV Ultimate for nearly 10 months and have done 30k km. I got it as a work vehicle and we paid $38k drive away with 7 yrs unlimited km warranty, roadside assistance, capped price servicing plus 3 yrs free servicing. Having owned Holden Colorados previously I have to say the Musso is a pleasure to drive and work out of and is hands down the best value 4x4 ute on the market. It has plenty of power ( blew the doors off the boss' BT50) and interior space, features and comfort the opposition just can't match. The tub is positively enormous and coupled with the (overpriced) canopy I can store a massive amount of gear in the back. My Musso has been the guinea pig for our company vehicles and now the boss is looking to add more to the fleet as the current vehicles come up for replacement.
If people take a good look at their spec sheets and test drive one they wouldn't look anywhere else - people just need to look past the name and preconceived notions.

Awasome vehicle, just did 3400km trip in 2022 Ssangyong Musso Ultimate Lux LWB: quiet, nice riding, averaged actual fill to fill with a 3XM canopy, 500kg of load (tools, mower, chainsaw, extra Battery, 95L fridge, and plenty of other stuff, was absolutely chock a block loaded) 8.2L per 100Km driven at speed limit with plenty of overtaking. Pleasant, responsive, nice handling, good brakes (4 wheel discs) awesome seats, NVH was bloody good, safety suite is nice: lane departure warning on a long trip great if getting tired otherwise a bloody annoyance: mostly kept off. Surprisingly good at overtaking, my last vehicle was a Subaru Forrester XT Turbo: this is more comfy, quieter, more relaxing. Similar economy despite extra tonne being lugged..

I purchased a 2020 Ultimate XLV with coil springs, stock, knowing that the ride was too bouncy and jittery for my taste as all other positives covered this short fall. I put on 265/65R18 RT tyres on factory wheels that improved the ride a bit albeit with fair bit more noise. The tyres scrubbed the inner guards on 3/4 lock so I got the Ironman suspension lift kit (comfort at front and constant load at the back). Srcubbing was better but still present at full lock which eventually got sorted after an wheel alignment at cost of the handling. I think they played with camber/castor to rid of the scrubbing. I'm about to take it back for re-alignment as I can live with the small amount of scrubbing. Unfortunately the Ironman suspension kit didn't provide any relief from the poor ride. And it doesn't get better with weight at the tray. I think the too much tray flex itself is a part of the problem. Been searching everywhere for alternate suspension kits/systems to no avail. Shame that no other aftermarket supplier wants to know about this ute. I'm even searching through Korean suppliers but most of them aren't expert in off roading requirements. The ute just clocked 11k kms, the engine started to free up about 5k and is fairly punch now AND is still very quiet.

I'm not one of them, owned a 76 thinking it was the supreme 4x4.
