  • In this video, I review the U by Moen smart shower valve after 2 years of daily use in my master bathroom. I describe all the features and test if it can hold the temperature when a toilet flushes while you're in the shower.

    I have my tiles, curved tub and curved shower door ready for my major remodel but have been real iffy when it comes to deciding on getting the u by moen or a regular shower faucet. I am now sold on the u by moen thanks to you. This was a great review. I know this valve is meant for a shower but I tend to be good at making things work the way I want them to work so I will be adding some extra solenoid valves to the water circuit to make it work for the tub, wall shower head, overhead shower head and sprayer via voice control. Thank you once more for your honest review, it was very very much appreciated.

    • @handydadtv

      The U acts as a temperature mixing valve AND a diverter. No need for anything else.

  • @ericsmith7532
    @ericsmith7532 Před rokem

    Thanks for the video. I ended up purchasing one (Home Depot, online, $697 before tax for 2 valve unit). However, I offer this protip. I had the predecessor to this unit the Moen I/O. And, after 9 years, the valve unit failed. Called Moen. Buy it for looks, buy it for life? Yeah, well, the life of the technology. Moen discontinued the I/O series and, guess what, stopped supporting it. No valve or parts available. Now, if I had followed the directions and just run the control wire through the studs, I'd be screwed at this point. However, I'm a son of an engineer (damaged goods for sure) and I thought ahead. I ran the control wire through conduit and left a fish rope in the conduit. Yeah.
    So, I pulled a new wire for the U by Moen, had to re-do the plumbing, but got the thing in. Works. Whew.
    Sharing this because this model surely will be replaced by something else and y'all will need to pull a new wire at some point.

The MOEN appears to be the best of the bunch so if I do it, I will go with MOEN. My contractor has installed two of these and he knows what he is doing. He told me my hardware will need to be MOEN (is that correct)? If the system malfunctions, does this mean, you can’t turn on the shower?

      Couple of thoughts...
      $55k for a master bath? Wow that’s gonna be an awesome bathroom.
      Your contractor is wrong. The valve was the only Moen fixture in my bathroom. The shower head and body sprays were Delta.
      The system malfunctioned occasionally and the water wouldn’t turn on. Perhaps once a year. All you need to do is push and hold the power button on the keypad until it reboots (maybe 10-15 seconds). Then it’s fine for another year.

      @@handydadtv That is interesting because our Moen dealer said that each valve would only be able to have 2 body sprays per valve so we had to have a balanced pressure shower trim valve ordered to then have a manual handheld since the regular shower head will be on valve 1; the rain head would be on valve 2; and two body sprays would be on valve 3; and the remaining two body sprays would be on valve 4. Did you put all your 4 body sprays on a single valve? I only saw 3 sprays in your video, but you could have just been in the viewing line.

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  Před 9 měsíci

      @colonelshag I disagree. I used 3 body sprays and I only had 1/2” supply lines with the 2-port valve. Plenty of pressure.
      With the 4-port valve, you use 3/4” supply lines so you’ll have even more volume. I think you’ll be fine with four body sprays.
