Privyet & Aloha, I'm local born & raised in Hawaii. To help you pronounce & understand his namesake, his nickname is pronounced as "IZ" as in the word "Is", but with a local Hawaiian Pidgin accent. And his whole Hawaiian name is "Israel Ka'ano'i Kamakawiwo'ole" Pronounced as "Ka'ano'i - Ka-a-no-e", & "Kamakawiwo'ole - Ka-ma-ka-vi-vo'ole". In translation, his name means: Israel the fearless eye & the bold face.
I would 2nd everything and can personally recommend a visit to Hawaii. I lived there 3 years when I was a kid and will never forget it. Went back once and got goosebumps. Like a whole different country. You should go some day Irina!!!! Хорошо. Спасибо большое.
I visited Oahu back in 2007. One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, and I've always wanted to come back for more visits. Also, love the GITS pic.
Mahalo
Thank you for the translation!
Iz is an extraordinary example of how music comes in any package. Such a light touch, and a creative take from the popular version. He has given the world a new "popular version."
It's only after since Bruddah Iz passed away, that this song has become extremely popular in movies, commercials and around the world.
It's very common in Hawaii to scatter a person's ashes into the ocean, if it is their last wishes.
Israel IZ é um pituchinho um pitucho que todos ficam impressionado quando vê seus vídeos
My Mom had that done to her also in 1970 after her murder by my Step-Father when I was 12
This scene where they were all cheering and out in the water is when they were spreading his ashes in the water in celebration of his life. He's considered one of the best Hawaiian musicians of all time and is highly loved and respected by all Hawaiians. He was also an activist and involved in promoting the rights of Hawaiians, which he included in some of his songs. He was only 38 years old when he died from respiratory failure in 1997.
Here is a nice 30-minute documentary on his life: czcams.com/video/4YRvGXyOAL4/video.html&ab_channel=MountainAppleCompanyInc
I thought the best Hawaiian musician of all time was Elvis Presley lol
(Just joking my friend lol) ✌️
IZ has an amazing voice ❤️
Indeed, and a bit of an explanation of Hawaiian activism for those who are unfamiliar. As an American, I can tell you that the US basically stole Hawaii at gunpoint. The last ethnic ruler of The Kingdom of Hawai'i, King Kalakaua, was under pressure from anti-monarchist Hawaiians, but more importantly, American business interests to shift the "Status quo" to be more favorable to America, but the King refused and wouldn't cooperate, he was then basically forced to sign a new Hawaiian constitution at gunpoint, so it was called the "Bayonet Constitution" which effectively deposed the king and put all decisions in the hands of American influenced beurocrats...and that was in 1886...so, much like the American Indians, they are still trying to get back even a fraction of what was taken...Once the corporations and resorts moved into Hawaii it could be even more difficult now, their moneyed interests carry a lot of weight with the government...
@@daz97 ,, I think Don Ho still holds the top spot. 'Tiny bubbles'.
The clip at the end, where all the people were chearing, was a clip of his funeral. Honestly, it's very touching. How great must one be to be loved by so many. There were 10,000 people at his funeral.
This is a beautiful cover of a beautiful song. The original was performed by Judy Garland in her iconic role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, released in 1939.
This is my favorite song of all time. Izzy's voice is so melodic and sweet. It sends me to another place outside myself, no drugs, just joy!
It still amazes me that this song became so beloved and well-known all over the world. Back when we were just listening to it here in Hawaii, I could never have anticipated this.

This version of the song by IZ always makes me cry. Such a beautiful voice, such a beautiful man. He’s found his place over the rainbow.
He was from Hawaii but he has passed away. The song was made popular from the movie "The Wizard of Oz" where the main character Dorothy sang it in the movie. The movie was one of the greatest movies of all time 😊
The song is an American classic from the 1930s, but this is a famous Hawaiian singers version. The people are Hawaiian in the video. The song is sung here by the man whose funeral it was.
In my humble opinion this is the most beautifully sung song EVER!!!!❤❤❤😍🤩😘😅👍
This cover always makes me even more proud to be hawaiian than I already was. Mahalo and aloha from a landlocked hapa haole.
Haole*😂
@@StickyKeys187 fuckin auto correct haha I even have haole as a saved word in my phone
This is a cover song for the 1939 movie of the wizard of Oz, this song is done by IZ, who passed away and you are watching his funeral in the video. He was Hawaiian is playing the ukulele, a predominantly Pacific islander instrument. In my opinion this is the greatest cover song of all time.
It’s always been a beautiful song, and always will be. The melody and lyrics are both just very touching. Many, many artists have sung their own renditions of it, and I think his is as memorable as any of them.
RIP Big IZ! You an inspiration to many bradda🤙🏽
This was a great choice. Iz is a legend in Hawaii, but is also legendary in the music industry for this cover of an iconic American song sung by Judy Garland in the "Wizard of Oz." RIP (rest in peace) Iz.
5:35 The dog stole the moment
Doggy understands ❤ and wanted some of what she was doing. How sweet.
I loved that Montana joined in at the end with his snoring sound 😆
Did you know That Israel passed away a long time back and he was actually in a musical group I forgot what they were called, but he was the most sweetest most gentlest person you ever met
Mākaha Sons of Niʻihau. That was with his brother Skippy and others.
@@hawaiianguy1977 really? I didn't know that
@@hawaiianguy1977 Thank you!
Sometimes you don’t need to know the story but just feel the music and how it makes you feel.
This song comes from the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz 🌈 please watch this movie for reaction 🙏 ♥️
Irina should do alive so we can watch this classic together! 1939 my dad wasn’t born
Your dog is absolutely adorable!!
Excellent choice. I plan to play during my brother's funeral. Peace
thank you for watching
I lived in Hawaii for 20 years, we went on vacation and never came home. Best decision I ever made in my life!!
We spent the last almost decade in Lahaina which burned to the ground a few weeks ago. I worked right in front street for years and years and now when I think of my view from work, I see cars burned out trying to escape. I have friends dead and missing, and so many friends who simply lost every single thing but the clothes they were wearing 💔 my heart is never going to be the same
Iz is from Hawaii and died in 1997 and this is pretty much his most famous song
IZ from HAWAII ..and "Somewhere over the Rainbow" originally sung by Judy Garland,
when she was ONLY 17 years old in 1939....IZ version makes me cry every time....
...if you got time, give Judy a listen....clip from " Wizard of Oz"
very nice to tell us that´s a beautyful scene.... we don´t see soo much...
But when I mute the sound it´s ok...
Such a loving and soothing voice!
Wizard of Oz movie.
Iz lived in Hawaii. He was a dearly beloved singer. Died much too young.
I know.. that’s so sad
Song is at the end of the movie 50 first dates. I heard it there first and fell in love with it. Amazing voice and unmatched by anyone i have ever heard.
I think he might be a Hawaiian singer.

"The Wizard of Oz" is an old musical. One of the first to use color film.
Hawaii. It is so nice to hear from a fine representative of your people. The international stage is so dangerous now and it is a great shame that our leaders lead us into animosities not deserved. I have such respect for the endurance and bravery of your people. Lets hope that the troubles of this time pass and we can be honest collaborators and rivals on the world stage and not enemies anymore. We have a lot more in common than is generally thought.
Good song. A classic.
"Over the Rainbow", also known as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", is a ballad by Harold Arlen with lyrics by Yip Harburg. It was written for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. Cut and paste from wiki. One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
ty for the recommendation
Now, you need to watch the movie The Wizard of Oz lol. BTW, if you ever get the chance to visit Hawaii, take it. It's a beautiful place.
First sung by Judy Garland in the 1939 film "Wizard Of Oz".
It is a song from the movie, "The Wizard of Oz."
Hawaii ... one of the most beautiful places on this earth.
Hawaii, USA.....Iz morphed an old song here and improved it...... immeasurably ....i love your soul
First off, I have to say, that aside from my wife, you are the most beautiful woman that I have ever seen. Your beauty is hauntingly perfect. I love your videos, and my wife teases me when I watch your videos. She tells me "I don't blame you baby, hell, I am straight, and I have a crush on her." Your reactions are so pure, and I see a pain behind your eyes that only a life of hardship can bring. You see the world as it is, and you highlight the good, then you share it with all of us. May God bless you, my family and I gather around the screen, and we watch your reactions like they are our favorite weekly episodes of our favorite show. Please keep making these videos, we need them during these crazy times, and always.
Combination of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and It's a Beautiful World. 💕
As has prob been said by now...its originally from the film "the wizard of oz" , with this song made famous in 1939 when that film came out (& i believe it was also the first color movie that wasnt black & white camera film)...anyway, IZ made it his own like a true artist & genius with this cover...i liked the original version as a kid but by the time i was in my early 20's i was over it, then this version came out & it blew me away🤯🤯🤯....anyway, gret rwaction, like & subbed:)
i love your classic flip mode intro 🤣 IZ was a native Hawaiian
huge Thank u for this reaction, because thanks to you I know finally the Name of this Song. because in it is a very small moment where he sounds like my mother language sentence for "I am hungry" is he in this 4 second long moment a meme, in my country, and I never knew its roots :) :) and he is often mentioned as ??? in misheared Lyrics videos in my language :) -
So beautiful.
You should do a reaction to the latest hit from American idol, Iam Tongi! He is like the new IZ of the millennium, and everyone is crying left and right to his 7 minutes of audition in front of the judges who were brought to tears, especially the two guys 😢😭 he sang monsters by James Blunt which he dedicated to his late father. Nice videos!
Iz is Polynesian -the native people of the Hawaiian islands.
he sings the wizard of oz somewhere over the rainbow hard to picture such a big guy singing a song like that.
I first encountered this version of the song in the movie "50 First Dates". A fun Romcom I think you might like.
Ashes belong to the sea. He died very young, his amazing voice and this song of hope will last forever.
The most chill good vibes song ever.
the mask 2,
son of the mask;)
used his song for the
scene of- the son crawling
up to his father, but only awhile.
5:44 your Dog took totaly over , he knew exactly where the mic is xD
I am happy that you understood what you were witnessing, but no sad at all. It was a beautiful sendoff for a man on his way to heaven.
From Oahu, Hawai'i 🤙🌺💯, thank you for reacting to one of our Hawaiian legends. ❤💯🌺🤙🙏
Hawaii gorgeous!!!

He passed away check out his song called in this life and white sandy beach
O clipe é uma mistura das imagens de Israel IZ e o seu sepultamento no mar, sendo jogadas as suas cinzas mortais. Uma das mais lindas despedidas! 🥰🎼
Guess you've never watched the wizard of Oz lol and he's from Hawaii but he died shortly after recording this song
West side of the Oahu it called Yokohama Beach.🤙🤙🤙
He was a national hero and he really have a great voice (im danish so i dont know much about him)
Linda essa musica
Hawaii
This song is amazing and heartfelt... If I may make a music suggestion, I'd reccomend "I could fall in love" by Selena Quintanilla.
That song, and especially the music video makes everything feel so melancholy, sad and nostalgic. RIP Selena, the queen of Tejano...
Yes that's a damn good song!
I've been listening to this all year, and it never fails to make me cry all the time
it's my favorite sound
That dog sounds like my wife when we go to sleep. 🤭
The best.
Original version by Judy Garland was from “The Wizard of Oz” (movie).
Without that background knowledge, you can’t truly appreciate this altered performance. It’s a “must see” film. You should do a reaction to it.
Yes it is Hawaii 😊 and yes you seen his funeral 😞 R.I.P. Israel IZ
He is from was from Hawaii. Sadly he has been gone for some time now
This is so much better than the Judy Garland version....kinda like Simon and Garfield's "Sound of Silence" and the better version sung by Disturbed.
Emotional support pup to the rescue for the sad ending
Young lady it would not be right if I did not recommend that you watch The Bee gees the title of the song is Too Much live on stage is when it came out you will like this again to you over 60 million views of this song says a lot 👍

Hey Irina😀
It's Hawaii,he passed away ,
I'm sure people answered it but this song has so much meaning to me,
I still can hear my mom singing this to me as a baby is engrained in my memory ,
It's such a beautiful song.
I can sing this Fairly well This is one of the oldest songs I remember in my entire life.
🥰🥰
@russianreaction&reviews Also just to keep my pattern of commenting going all week I just got done making sweet and spicy sausage peppers onions , wagyuf burgers with teriyaki and Some new Brazilian steak seasoning I found.
Pretty much that's what's up right now lol
😋😋
💚
Iz was from Honolulu, Hawaii. The song is from "The Wizard of Oz" (1939) and sung by Judy Garland.
Your dog is adorable - I don't mind the snoring at all. Did you say his name was Montana?
Yes)
The Wizard of Oz sung by Judy Garland
Brother Iz also has a cover/adaptation version of a John Denver song you already listened to, Take Me Home Country Roads
Iz's version:
czcams.com/video/uiCkiyTGM6E/video.html
In my opinion, Iz's version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow (especially when it's the medley version with What a Wonderful World) is the best version. Meaning, yes I like his rendition over even Judy Garland's, but of course I still love hers as well.
With Take Me Home Country Roads, John Denver's version is still my favorite but there is definitely something to love with Iz's version too!
My family and I were blessed to live in Hawaii for three years, and unfortunately during our stay Mr. Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, or as he's so affectionately referred by his countrymen, Bruddah IZ, passed away. I'm not Hawaiian so don't presume to refer to this great man so intimately. I've literally been around the world (I'm living at my 34th address) and I've experienced a number of cultures that do not include a "work ethic" so common in America and Europe, but Hawaii was the first place where I experienced this phenomenon and it made sense. What are you working for? There's no need for clothing or shelter, and if you're hungry, just cast a line into the ocean to catch a fish or shimmy up a tree to pick some fruit. It truly is paradise, and Mr. Kamakawiwo’ole expressed it so well in his music. You can tell from the video he purposed to find joy in life, and even though he passed away at the early age of 38, he probably experienced more joy in his short lifetime than most of us will in our entire lifetime, regardless of how long we live. I have a number of the late Mr. Kamakawiwo’ole's songs in my playlist, and every time I hear one of his songs, it bring a big smile to my face. What better legacy could someone have? God rest the soul of Mr. Kamakawiwo’ole.
Ya this guy died at 26. So sad as if he had lost weight he might have sung many more songs. He's playing a ukelele, the national guitar of Hawaii.
There are so many version cover of this song, i love the one sang by a little girl in Got talent before,
Please react or review to kenny rogers song The Gambler, and Coward of the County.. 🤗
Doggo felt it too 🤗
Money is freedom, and nothing more. Unless you let it corrupt you, then it can be a prison.
🌈❤😇
IZ was a strong nationalist and always loved his people , they loved him back ..it was his death song
