I had to service my MT09 fuel pump and this was very helpful since I was doing it for the first time and since its literally the same, it was smooth sailing thanks to you

Silly question did you have to drain the tank when you take the pump out??

I did but only to make it easier to lift really. Once you take it off the bike you could sit it on it's nose and it'll hold a few litres as long as the level isn't as high as the fuel cap. I used a syphon tube with a 1-way ball valve in it that saves sucking the fuel out with your mouth.

Good question, there's a problem with my pump where fuel will drain out completely if I don't block it, which shouldn't be if the check valve is working.
