    This is a great video. I bought a bike with 600 miles on the clock for dirt cheap recently, it hadn't run since 2015. I quickly figured out the duel pump was the issue. Followed this video to the tee, got it running after cleaning the pump, Now I have basically a brand new bike. Time to flip! Thanks guys.

    I'm glad Google led me to your video. I've been having whining noises (goes up with revs) on my KTM Duke for a month or so now and I was dreading having to buy a new pump. I didn't realise you could clean them! 47,000 miles so no doubt that strainer/mesh has some utter filth stuck to it.
    Nice guide too by the way. I'll be sure to follow this when I tackle the job (soon!). Cheers from England! Two wheels!

    For removing all that rust from REALLY old gas tanks, I've had terrific luck with one of the water-based iron chelation type rust removers like Metal Rescue. I suppose muriatic acid would get you off to a much faster start, but the chelation type rust removers are very gentle and do a great job. When done, drain and dry in the sun, and you're good to go.

    Will you go over how to clean the tank? I think it would be very enlightening. There are a bunch of videos on cleaning old tanks by adding nots, bolts, and all sort of metal plus some sort of acid. With many of these newer bikes they have much more complex and complicated tanks with things that could break. Please, please, please consider a video with the proper way to clean out any rust or residue inside of a tank that has sat! Your channel is the best and I hope you will continue with the how to videos

    Very good video , useful . No mention though of the tiny cylindrical metal filter that lies inside the fuel pump housing, just after where the pump head enters the plastic housing as on my Bandit 1250 . The tea bag filter stops most of the crud but I'm having to remove pump and blast carb cleaner through the fuel line into the pump housing to remove a very small amount of dark silt . When I can easily blow through the fuel line I know I'm good to go again . I wish that darn secondary filter was external as I've had to clean it out more than once . Let me know if anyone has managed to combat the clogging second filter . The tea bag at the rear of pump remains good, I clean it as a matter of course anyway each time the secondary gets silted and I loose the ability to exploit full revs . Rob Stone .

      @Payder Před 2 lety

      Thank you very much for that comment. My fuel pump started making noises and my bike ran not as smooth as it used to. After i installed a new pump the viton grommet got pushed out of its place. I wondered why... Now i know it: the internal fuel filter is clogged therefore the pump builds up a really high pressure which resulted in the grommet giving up. This weekend i will reverse flush everything and i'm confident to solve the problem this way. I wonder why I had never heard about taking care of the internal filter before. This makes a lot of sense: The filter on the sucking side of the pump is quite coarse and will surely let fine particles pass through towards the internal paper filter.
      The internal filter isn't meant to be maintained and a whole fuel pump unit costs about 800bucks...
      Thank you for saving me a lot of money!

      @robertstone4025 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Payder my story actually carried on with that cylindrical filter blocking with super fine silt after less than 1000 miles . I eventually speared the fine filter in the housing and installed a Ford focus fuel filter outside the tank using the high pressure quick release fuel line fittings purchased on ebay . The car filter is just small enough to live on top of the engine , under the tank and to the untrained eye looks like it should be there . I used a rubber strip around the filter to stop and rubbing on the engine and nestled it away from the lowest part of the fuel tank. Power has remained 100% and not had to touch the pump ever since . Regards R.stone

    Question:- Can a fuel pump be tweaked? By tweaking, I mean if it is possible to make the fuel pump supply more gasoline to the fuel injector.
    Because, my mileage has dropped drastically and the mechanic told me that he increased the supply of fuel pump to the injector so that I get a bit more acceleration. I am getting a bit more acceleration but my mileage has dropped significantly.

  • @st3rg
    @st3rg Před 4 lety +15

    Unfortunately the problem with pumps lies elsewhere. Both MC and the workshops fail to grasp the true cause.
    Despite the gunk before the pump the problem lies inside the paper filter AFTER the pump inside the white plastic which you have to reverse flush to get your bike back to full power or replace if you flush and does not come back to life.
    Have successfully fixed many bikes and saved a lot of money to their owners this way.

    • @RonaldOsure

      This is spot on. Care to explain how you do the reverse flush?

    • @st3rg
      @st3rg Před 3 lety +5

      @@RonaldOsure Seperate the pump from the filter , take care the o-ring inside also called (google viton grommet) that sits between the two so that it is not torn as you will need to replace.
      Sometimes the problems lies just there.
      Take your fuel pump motor and a clean source of fuel connect it to the exit of the fuel filter with a custom hose and run it with a power supply or a battery taking all precautions for a fire hazard.
      Take care of yourself when handling fuel.
      i have made an assembly with an old fuel pump on a static bench and just flush about 5 liters every turn until the output comes clean. you can filter your fuel so you dont waste it use coffee filter so i can see the cleaning process.

    Hi,
    I have a Yamaha R6, 2004 & I have started to face an issue recently. I would need your help to diagnose the problem, the total kilometers I have run my bike are 12,000KM ONLY since I got it as I wasn’t riding regularly.
    For about a month now, I have been riding it regularly. I always do a normal maintenance like Oil change with filter /coolant & battery. yesterday when I left home I felt the bike is heavy and it’s not running smoothly.
    Once I stopped at the traffic light and released gas it turned off & when I tried to turn it back on it wasn’t really working without taking extra gas.
    All I could do is just give it extra gas and get back home.
    If anyone of you can help guide me and figure out the issue then please do let me know from where to start.
    Spark plugs ? Airfilter ?or Fuel pump/ filter ?
    Please help,
    Many thanks!

      the best thing to do is to buy a workshop manual. That will have troubleshooting guides for most problems including this one.
      one quick way to see if it is a fuel system problem is to remove the tank and airbox then spray some gasoline with a squirt bottle directly into carburetors ( you can buy spray cans which do this from any auto shop ). If engine runs when spraying fuel, problem lies in fuel system, fuel pump, fuel line vacuum line etc.

I've been watching all sorts of videos to learn how to drain the tank, hope it's not too rusted, clean out fuel pumps, filters, hoses going to throttle bodies etc etc. Since we're neighbours and probably have the same fuel standards, maybe I should just crank it over and see what happens.
