  • Mike finally gets his hands on the CKX Mission Carbon helmet that he tried to get last season unsuccessfully. He gives us a quick unboxing and some initial thoughts on what is deemed one of the best - if not the best - sledding helmet on the market. We will find out this season and stay tuned for more reviews and an end of season 'Battle of the Carbon's'!

    I have ridden Central ON for past 2 seasons with the same helmet but the electric shield version. At -30c, it is the warmest helmet I have ever used. Wear it all day and never notice it. Best helmet ever, period!!!

    Keep the visor on, one of the best features of the helmet. Been running one since they came out, over 16,000km of riding and it has never fogged once. Most of my riding is Northern Ontario and Quebec. I've only plugged it in twice, once for freezing rain and the other time for ice fog.

    • @sledaddicz
      @sledaddicz  Před rokem +1

      That's exactly what I've heard. I can't wait to test it out in under two weeks :)
      Sounds like we ride in the same places so that's awesome! The reality is that I want to have my helmet light (biteharder light) powered on especially on the heavier snow dust days so I will likely end up using the cord most of the time anyways. Cheers, Mike

    Hey Mike, glad you finally picked up that helmet. As we spoke before about the Bite Harder light… I bought the light kit and now I remember the problem. It fits but the curve of the helmet where you mounted the light was not matching up with the glue on the light. I didn’t want an air gap or even a mismatch between the curve and the adhesive so I bought the Nyte Ryder version and it fits much better. Happy trails Bud.

    Nice lid. Still think I'll stick with my Oxygen. Do be careful with the tinted visor. Know a guy that ran one years ago. Ended up riding after night and the tinted visor combined with some sow dust and he ended up in the rhubarb with major injuries (missed a corner on a railbed) that he was years recovering from. Last time he ever really sledded. I think the flip down tinted visors are the right way to go.

    • @sledaddicz

    The peak is excellent would suggest keeping it on but you will figure it out yourself. Get a smoke sun visor while they are available it is the best combo with the clear shield imo. A few times on some rough trails, my electric cord unplugged and didn’t even notice until stopped. Great helmet plenty of people on the trails with them for a reason. The biteharder led lights are the best thats why my wife and I have them. Enjoy you may never wear the Oxygen ever again lol.

    I covered the Mission helmet on my channel with the vents and the Bite Hard light install onto the Mission. I have not ridden with the silicone mask off because I breathe thru my mouth like a race horse. I smashed my nose in a auto accident so breathing thru my nose is limited. I have fogged every helmet I have ever owned WITH an electric shield. I have NOT fogged this one yet after 1000 miles of on and off trail riding. My sun visor has NOT fogged yet either which I am shocked considering the heat from my fat head.
    Price wise, I am seeing the same price I paid when I got mine which is great since I am now seeing the Oxygen has gone up quiet a bit in 2 season. US Price range $486 -560.
    I really need to get one for the wife since she wears glasses. She has vision of a bat....none. Her glasses fog all the time in her old helmet which makes riding with her a nightmare because she cannot see.
    Only CON, when the silicone mask is on, you cannot open the shield to it's full opening because, sometimes the mask will get pulled/pushed of the shield. I open the shield just enough to talk and snack on something. I look forward to hearing/seeing your experience riding, especially when your wear your glasses with the Mission Your a bit further North than me. I ride in Northern New Hampshire along the QC, CAN border into Northwestern Maine.

      Hey Robert! I appreciate the insight. Can't wait to try this helmet. I don't plan on using the silicone mask as I will usually/always be plugged in to the sled to run my biteharder light and after two years of wearing masks I think I'm done lol. We will definitely have some content on the mission as we get more time with it out on the trails, especially the super cold days in Northern Ontario and Quebec. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Mike

    HI based on your recommendations last year I bought the Oxigen helmet after doing lot of research, found the Oxigen to be by far better than the mission in a number of ways, one no mouth guard which is problem if you wear glasses, 2 much quiter, better angle view, heated compartment for flip down shade, and much warmer. Told the mission great unit but in my opinion Oxigen is better all round, sorry, Christopher Ottawa Canada

    Look inside you will see glasses pictures on each side. Thats where the arms on your glasses go. So far i love mine. Never own a skipooo helmet before tho. I have owned fxr hjc ckx and a few other not well know named helmets and by far and very very far i mean the ckx mission beats all other helmets for use with glasses. The most recent other helmet was an fxr modular helmet. It was usable at best... manny times it would fog up or even ice up to the point i would have to remove my glasses if it was to cold to ride with the visor open even with trying every trick to reduce fogging .(have yet plugged in the ckx mission but havent ridden in colder the -20c with it yet)
    Anyways. I dont wanna wait give us a play by play true update after every ride.

    Great review Mike. Interested in your thoughts on field of vision vs the Oxygen and the other BRP helmets. I purchased a Delta R3L last year and the first thing I noticed coming from a BRP Modular 3 was how much smaller my field of vision was, most notably up and down. I took a look at the Oxygen helmet last week and there was no comparison. Given you now own both of these, looking forward to your real world feedback. Also wondering if the sun visor frosts up without the breath box on. My modular 3 helmet did which forced me to use the breath box. Bit of a bummer Thanks!

    • @sledaddicz
      @sledaddicz  Před rokem +1

      Hey Mark! Just noticed your order on our site. We appreciate your support! First of, the oxygen has the most field of view out of any helmet I have ever worn. After using the mission on a three wheeler last week, it has no where close to the same field of view as the oxygen - the oxygen really is next level. In terms of the sun visor I will find that out when I put it to the test in a few weeks. I don't intend on using the breath box so I imagine I will find out pretty quickly lol. Cheers, Mike

      The only helmet on the planet that completely fixes that is the Oxygen. Unfortunately that same feature makes the O2 overly warm (even on the low setting) which is a deal breaker for a lot of people. So yeah.. if it’s below zero and you sweat a lot and then go to deploy the inner shield in the middle of the day you may see some frost on it. I remove that shield and just run the tinted external shield. I pack the clear in my tunnel bag for night or inclement weather.

      @@sledaddicz They're not BRP tho. And dealers don't want to to deal with warranty issues...they have very little incentive to deal with you once the sale is made. The zero warranty of CKX will be the end of this company unless they get someone on the other side of the phone / email dealing with customers who just shelled out $1200 for a helmet. That's entering MotoGP replica territory price-wise and to have no one servicing warranty claims is unacceptable on all levels.

    Not sure why anyone would buy an overpriced Oxygen over the Mission. Dumb...

      Sorry but don't agree with that at all. Watch our comparison video between the oxygen and the mission where we go into lots of reasons why one is better then the other and vice versa. We still continue to use both our oxygens and missions as they serve their own purposes and each have unique advantages. Cheers, Jesse
