  • What's So Good About The Epiphone 1961 Les Paul SG Standard From the Gibson Custom Shop?
Straight out of the Gibson Custom Shop - this Epiphone Inspired By Gibson 1961 Epiphone SG is one of the hardest-working, best-sounding SG guitars we've ever made.
Yes, the SG was originally called a Les Paul! Find out how it sounds...

If you are looking for a quality SG that is easy on the hands, is loaded with iconic tone, and pays tribute to the classic original, look no further than the Epiphone 1961 Les Paul SG Standard. A pro-level guitar at an affordable price range.
Made in partnership with the Gibson Custom Shop, this Inspired by Gibson™ SG guitar is Epiphone’s impressive recreation of one of the most important and popular guitar designs of all time.
The Epiphone 1961 Les Paul™ SG™ Standard pays tribute to the legendary original - the very first SG. In 1961, the original shape of the Les Paul model went on hiatus, replaced by an all-new design that is known today as the SG or “solid guitar.”
Featuring a two-piece solid mahogany, double-cutaway body with Custom Shop Historic bevels, it also has the one-piece mahogany, fast-playing SlimTaper™ C-shaped neck profile of those legendary early Les Paul SG models.
The guitar has been designed with historically inspired long pickguard and comes equipped with a pair of Gibson™ BurstBucker™ humbucking pickups wired to CTS® potentiometers and Mallory™ capacitors for total tone control. A Graph Tech® nut, and Switchcraft® output jack and toggle switch give you the added reliability in sound you need when performing or recording. The Epiphone Deluxe tuners feature a historically inspired double ring design.
This 1961 Epiphone SG is available in Aged Sixties Cherry and Aged Classic White. Of course, all of the legendary SG styling and cosmetic touches are here too, and a vintage-style hardshell case is also included so your guitar is safe when you're travelling!

Being the owner of a 61 myself, i have to say the Epiphone is nothing like my 61.
Firstly the neck joint is not as smoothly finished as the Gibson 61, so to say it is a reproduction???
Just as well Les is no longer with us, he would have a lot to say about using his name on this guitar, Les never agreed to calling the SG a Les Paul.

Do you have the Epiphone? The neck joints of the Epi and the current Gibson 61 reissue look identical to me. Les Paul's name appeared on the truss rod cover in '61. The Epi is a Gibson SG minus the nitro finish and rosewood fretboard. It has better pickups than the current Gibson SG Standard with its 490s. It's a good deal at the price.

You have an opinion that has no basis in fact. Epiphone’s quality is very good and it kills Gibson which is incredibly disappointing. I should now - I bought 11 brand new Epiphones over 2021/22. How many did you buy?

@@AnthonyGoombots i wish Gibson would do a tour of the Epiphone factory. From the chinese tours Ive seen on other video websites Gibson Qingdao is nothing more than a state of the art facility where they build guitars. I think by having a factory tour they can bust many myths spread about Epiphone guitars.

And, obviously, it means something. Otherwise, you wouldn't have responded. You can't stand that I have an opinion different than yours. If you want to go buy 100 Epiphones or any other made in China guitar, go ahead. It does not change what I like and why I like it or support it.

    • @InspiretoVictory
      @InspiretoVictory Před rokem

@@davidharding200 None. That's the point. Why would I waste my money on China made guitars with cheap poly finishes instead of nitro, skinny necks like the 61 SG and lower grade hardware, woods and electronics? Once in a while they upgrade some parts. But so what? I don't like the rest of the guitar. And I don't support where it's made. That's my prerogative which I do not expect anyone else to follow.
You don't even understand my opinion or why I have it in the first place. You just knee jerk react post about having no basis in fact about an opinion.
I just bought and returned a PRS S2 McCarty 594 because it wasn't what I liked. It felt too small and it was out of place sonically. For a little more money, I can go to Warmoth, pick out a body and neck spec'd out exactly how I want and ship it to a place to be finished in nitro in whatever color I want. Then I can assemble it using the highest grade parts and electronics to fine tune a final product tailored to my specific taste. I'm in the middle of building a baritone by doing just that.
For the build after that, I'm going to Precision guitar kits to have an SG custom built and send it to MJT guitars to have them finish it in a beautiful nitro. This way, I can get the shape I want, the type of wood I want, the fretboard, the frets, the inlay and, most importantly, the neck shape. Which is almost an inch thick at the first fret.
So, no, I'm not buying an Epiphone or a Gretsch Electromatic or an Eastman or any other guitar made in China. Not when I can go the aftermarket/guitar kit route and get exactly what I want how I want it. And that's a fact.
