Car Crushing - Junkyard 1950s Cadillac sedan and Coupe Deville cars get flattened in the crusher!

  • All roads lead to the junkyard and even luxury cars are no exception. The car crusher takes a bite out of vintage 1950s Cadillac coupe and sedan Deville cars. Once flattened the next stop is the recycling yard.

  • @jacksprofessionalproductio9403

    It is ultimately sad seeing these beautiful cars being reduced to scrap, but you really can’t really blame people for crushing them since it’s a Snooze You Loose scenario. I mean old cars have every chance in the book to be given a fresh life, but there aren’t enough people out there who are seeking them out.
    And the lesson learned here is, you should really only crush old cars if they are too far gone to be restored. Like, why try to save a classic car that’s rusted out and missing all the valuable parts? When it’s easier just to buy a fully restored one.

    Those Caddies had a few good bits on them yet, the problem is there doesn't seem to be a good way of the bits finding their way to the people who need them. That's on reason why Caddies of those years are hard to restore and costly.

    • @dogandballproductionsgoodb7215
      @dogandballproductionsgoodb7215 Před 3 lety +3

      Difficult, complicated, and expensive to restore, yes. As far as the parts getting to people who need them, I would disagree. These are iconic cars and they have attracted a good following of used parts dismantlers. There are many vintage Cadillac-only salvages from coast to coast that supply parts to hobbyists and restorers. Hemmings lists a multitude of them. Rick actually did a huge volume of parts, and had an immense stockpile of them. This was just the overflow, residual unsold bulk.

      I definitely hear ya there jonathan 😞. I love those 50s caddy's and the classic land yachts in general. But the overall cost to buy and maintain.... yikes 😬. About the only ones I can afford to buy are ones like these which have already been thru the crusher anyway. You can get em for like $15 a piece for the scrap metal. Then I can bang it back into shape with a sledgehammer and the rest is a bunch of diy work. Then again it's probably not the most legal thing in the world to drive a car with no title and that's already been crushed....🤔

  • @gcfifthgear
    @gcfifthgear Před 2 lety +2

    I hate to say it, but not one of the cars I've seen so far had much of anything--if anything at all--that could be salvaged. Even in a dry climate, cars continue to deteriorate ... and the kind of glass that was used in most '50s cars was laminated rather than tempered, so it would be near impossible to salvage...

      Dean, I know how you feel, I love cars too.. I love my 58 caddy, but it costs 10s of thousands of dollars to restore, even a mild restoration on a solid running car. Especially CADILLAC'S. I have my parents 58 cadillac they bought in 1960. I was 1 year old. Lifelong Southern California car, so rust is not an issue, but to keep it on the road, mechanically alone, I have spent over 20.000 dollars since my mom gave it to me in 1982. Then you have cosmetics, Paint job runs about 8000. New interior, about 4 to 5 thousand. These cars are stripped, missing everything, rusted out, no, except for the glass and wheels that should have been removed, the crusher is the right place for them. Who knows, maybe the recycled steel will make it into new CADILLAC'S!

    • @deanfarr3249

      @@johnfranklin5277 right but if a custom shop like Danny Koker (aka the count) buys it cheap then they have sources for parts off them or they can restore it doing the labor themselves and save tons of money then once they're all restored then they go to sell them and make their money flip. You know what i mean? Plus new Cadillacs don't even come as close to cadillacs built back in the day. And another thing alot of scrappers dont care what's worth keeping and whats valuable all they want to do is get money and even to support their drug habit especially.

    @dyer2cycle Před 2 lety +1

    Yes, it's absolutely TRAGIC that surviving vintage cars are still being destroyed at this late date..but it is still happening! :(...I think a lot, if not most, of this occurs because the scrap value is more than what most people want to pay to save them, and the owners of these estates/property are not antique car fans, they are not interested in taking the time to part them out, they just want them gone so they can sell/develop the property as quickly as possible(this type thing happens to old/historic houses and other historic buildings for the same reasons)...and trying to sell/auction them takes far more time than just crushing them, and sadly, crushing them probably makes more money...we, as a whole, are far more interested in making money than preserving history!.. :(

    • @johnfranklin5277
      @johnfranklin5277 Před 2 lety

      Its sad, but I would have to say, a survivor car is one that is completely intact,, not very rusted, and hopefully, running and driving. Once a car reaches this stage, they are no longer a survivor, they died long ago after being stripped, and losing they're structural integrity, and mother nature's continued assault from rain and snow. But, I would suggest, that you buy a decent 50s 60s car, you can be its caretaker as long as you live, so it can continue to go down the road! Thats why my 58 caddy is still going down the road. Family owned since 1960.

      Easy answer is, they were never taken off. But, most shredders nowdays allow 4 per car - in it, or on it

    Why didn't they offer these last unsold cars free to whomever could take them away by a certain date? I bet all would hav been taken & not destroyed.

    As much as it sucks to watch these get crushed, most of the good cars and parts were sold. The few that were shown here were well beyond salvageable with few usable parts left. And as for the people saying “what about the glass” 50/50 it breaks coming out and 65/35 it breaks in transit unmounted. Just not worth the gamble when shipping in bulk.

      @GT Classic Plastic man I get it, I’m a car guy too. But clearly these cars were sitting for decades and not one person bothered to grab any of it, so from a business standpoint if it’s not making money it’s taking money and it’s gotta go

      They had been parted on for many years. This was pretty close to Arkansas and Louisiana so many of the cars were quite rusty. Old luxury cars are notoriously complicated and difficult/expensive to restore. There was a lot of wasted potential for art, but there was a lot saved out of here that you didn't see. I did pick up a 1953 Fleetwood that I brought home complete. I will be working on it to see if I can get it running for another video.

      Fortunately those are flat glass. Many old glass shops can cut them from flat sheet glass, and have files of patterns on hand. Check around, someone can recreate them

    Do you realize the amount of money you can for those where I live classic car capital of the unitem states and mexico ..on the border the cartels buy these old cars and take them over the border and professional restore them. The parts sell high dollar and the whole cars are restored in just weeks... just stupid that American history is destroyed likes this... the Mexican people truly do a fantastic job on restoration... I saw a old buick hood sell for 5000 dollars one time because it was so rare and some one had one in there back yard.....it should be against the law to crust American history..like that.. hopefully people come to there senses and stop doing this just for a small amount of quick iron cash.. the people where I live would pay huge money for those.. I personally have my cars over the Mexican border to be professionally restored at a quarter of the price compared to usa prices.. amd if they can't find a part they have extremely talented shops that build parts and peices.
