This is my favorite black bear hunting video of all time. Watching the speed at which that bear reacted to the call was incredible. Well done.

@@stoneglacier9636 use the creek. Bring plastic bags and sink the meat under rocks. Then you coulda gone back to the truck, and taken your time grabbing those quarters. It would be perfect for a week.

I called in two bears my very first year bear hunting it was a rush. It was also my first time bow hunting and mistakes were made. I used a fawn distress call though and they came running quick. Taking my 12yr old daughter on her first Spring Bear hunt here in Oregon on a spot and stalk trip. Spring bear is coming quick! Good stuff guys.

I love you guys; the content Zach Boughton and Sam Averett produce is unparalleled. I also love bear hunting. I'm from Montana and bear hunting is something that I live to do. However, I don't justify it under the pretext of 'predator control'. First of all, killing a bear (especially anywhere Northwest of Missoula) is not going to have a real impact on the ecology of the place where that bear was killed. It's biologically proven taking a few bears out of an area will not affect the deer and elk populations. I believe anyone that kills a black bear should own up to what it means on a personal level with that animal and use it's meat and value it's life and hide and skull. I don't appreciate the narrative that I see across the community that hunting black bears for 'predator control's' sake is valid; wolves may be another matter. Either way, I feel we have a responsibility as hunters to take full responsibility for the lives we take as individuals, not to ride off or justify our actions under unscienifically correct narratives. It could, in the long term, affect the public's view of our lifestyle and passion.

Thanks! There are quite a few non-resident hunting opportunities for black bear in the western US. If you want to do it there's ways to have a great hunt for not a lot of money.

Beautiful video. I have to say, as a bear hunter, I find the argument that “I’m doing it for the deer and elk” tired. One bear hunted with a bow does hardly anything for deer and elk. Why not just say I do it for the experience?

Definitely an understandable perspective. We would fully agree it's about the experience. For Zack, that experience includes being a steward in his eyes and bear hunting can make a difference for the elk and deer. One bear may not seem like much but if hunters as a collective do their part it does make a large impact in certain areas.

Morale of the story is also, yes you can kill an animal without having the latest Mathews bow. Hope for us all.
The difficulty level of this hunt is just insane. And the grizzly numbers must be very low in this unit....
Although there is always the possibility, this area should hold zero grizzlies so that makes things a bit less nerve racking!
What call were you using?
I’ve never tried predator calling before, just spot and stalk. But after seeing that reaction, I’ll have to give it a try

That was not a prototype although we will be offering more vest options in the future.

I’d be worried about calling in a grizzly which wants to eat you and the black bear.
That's a good concern. 99% of the time we only call to bears in areas where no grizzlies are present.
We need an earn a buck system but with a large predator instead of a doe
