The body must heal itself. Give the gangs the tools they need, accept and harness the authority they already have, and a provide them a new purpose, a new objective, to save themselves. Now, from within themslves, the leaders, the positive change will come. Forget the mega church guy, and forget the President - this ain't no photo op. The city will heal from within, by changing polarity. Local pastors are great, external influence is ill advised; particularly a political one from DC. The gang leaders need to see what they can achieve, and they will achieve it. It will not be a lily-white kind of neighborhood, it will be an new-world African American neighborhood with dark inner city roots, and inner city pain, and the price the inner city has paid for decades. Give the locals the tools, the money, the power. Physician, heal thyself.

This situation in Chicago (the city that I live in) seams more complicated than it appears to be. One thing is for sure, gun control does not have any effect since criminals and gang members don't mind 3 years in prison. Money would not help since economy needs to be build on will and safety of the community. Best thing I can say is that there needs to be a change in attitude in the Chicago black community. It seams as though this people are traped in a mind set that is designed and shaped to set them back spinning in circles without getting people anywhere good. It is not the gun that is the problem, it is the people and the mind sett.

Have they ever thought that maybe some jobs, summer camps, trade programs....you know...something for these kids/young people to do would decrease violence. A hungry mob is an angry mob. Naturally, when people don’t have any opportunities, have nothing to do or can’t thrive in their communities, they turn to violence, drugs, or illegal activities. Bring opportunities and job to these areas and the problems will go down.
