- This past week, the FDA approve the first drug of its kind for the treatment of fatty liver disease. Resmetiron, brand name #Rezdiffra, was approved to treat patients with fatty liver who have F2-F3 fibrosis. The drug has been shown to reduce fat in the liver as well as reverse fibrosis (scarring).
For all those with fatty liver disease, the first step is to check in with your care team, and get an evaluation to determine the amount of fibrosis in the liver. This can typically be done with a #fibroscan test, MRI-elastrography, or a liver biopsy - in those specific cases.
Keep in mind that there are 80-100 million cases of fatty liver in the Unites States, and it is a leading cause of chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.

My main concerns now are 1) Will ins. cover this new drug and 2)what side effects? Doubtful ins will cover, but still for future folks great. My situation... won't be able to afford the new med even w/ ins. (I think I am at F2 but have improved overtime with diet changes and weight loss!) Also, scan showed cyst (not concerned yet). I don't understand why my Facebook page dedicated to FLD doesn't recognize this important news. Chatter, but nothing else. I added some info but not approved by admin on site. Regardless, I am a member already on your page. Thanks again to you and your staff!

My dad has non-alcoholic and non-chhirotic stage 1 fatty liver. Does he need to take resmetirom? Is resmetirom for non-alcoholic and non-chhirotic fatty liver or for non-alcoholic and non-chhirotic steatohepatitis?
Is resmetirom for NAFLD or for NASH?
I have stage 3 fibrosis, I’m taking mounjaro and the dr prescribe the resmetirom. Can you use both safety?
Can your fibrosis level be determined by a Liver/Spleen Nuclear Static Only Scan?
I've been told liver ultrasound elastography and mre are the best at diagnosing fibrosis?
Yes, both good options.
How about a mass on the liver?
This needs to be further evaluated, typically with contrast enhanced MRI or CT scan.
