  • Today is day six of the 31 days of wellness for January 2024. In his brief video, I share a few thoughts and comments on #Ozempic, and other GLP-1 agonist drugs. As most of the public is well aware, these medications have become very popular for weight loss in addition to management of type two diabetes. While these medication‘s are very effective in achieving weight loss, there are a number of minor and major side effects that you need to watch out for. The other problem I have is that in many cases, they are being prescribed indiscriminately, many times, without a prescription, often without the safeguard of a Physician. An alternative weight loss strategy that we’ve been using for a number of years is #Optifast. Manufactured by Nestlé, this is a meal replacement program which can achieve significant weight loss in our patients.
Typically patients will lose between 20 and 70 pounds during the active phase of the meal plan. Most importantly, our team of providers and our registered dietitian work very closely with the patient making lifestyle changes, and teaching them about food, preparation and selection, nutrition, meal planning, and meal prepping. Without the lifestyle adjustments, including nutrition and exercise, long-term weight loss success is very difficult.
Should you have any questions about our Optifast program and weight loss management that we offer through our practice, reach out to us at 713-794-0700 or through our website www.texasliver.com.
