Wow thanks for including me in this awesome video ! i love all the other contributors ideas !
Thanks for being apart of it Mathieu, and more importantly, for all your interesting content. I always get so excited every time you publish a new video. //A
I love these âcrossoverâ videos. It reminds me of my comic book days when, for example, Spider-Man would team up with the Fantastic Four. I particularly loved Hugh riffing on a dozen camera/lens combos and then making a totally rational argument why the iPhone is the correct answer, when I knew the whole time that he would pick a Leica. That said, it makes me said to hear professional photographers talking about needing to sell gear to get through this.
Scott Magoon đ
I have always thought Brownstone spoke from his heart: if you hear closely and quietly, you get to hear his heart, not the sounds his words make.
GKtv Law đđ»
Thanks for having me on the show.
So great to have you on!
"I have to find a way to explain the arrival of the XT4 next week to Denae..."
The way I got around this, was that I just kept getting similar looking fuji bodies so my wife could never tell the difference đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł I'm hoping that if I replace my X100F with an X100V she wont notice.....
I think Denae would notice the flip screen. It doesn't work so well when she's also a photographer. :)
That only works with getting another child, not camera ;) if they look alike, maybe mom wonât notice the new arrival :)
She will know. She already knows. She is just waiting to see how you explain that away.
I can relate to this, my upgrade from Canon 1Dmk3 to 1DX was flawless :)
As long as she doesnât check the bank accounts!
It was a pleasure to see in one of your videos Hugh and Gordon (which I follow since long time ago) and to discover Mathieu and Bellamy. I love this "formula", I enjoyed a lot these long video-reviews @GordonLaing and another man in the States do from time to time, so happy to see more of that.
Got Hugh Brownstoneâs choice, oh yeah!!! Really enjoyable to watch and listen, thanks for putting this together and out there. đ
This was awesome!!! What a fun video during quarantine. Love all of these guys. đ
This is one of the best videos Iâve seen in a long time! Such a cool idea!! Well done guys!
I gotta think for a minute on what my deserted island camera would be. Right now Iâm caught between, the X100V, X-T3 with the 56mm, or the Sony A7III with the 24mm F1.4 G-Master Prime
Fantastic!!! You got all of my favourite CZcams friends together well a few of them anyway, thanks.
Brilliant idea and awesome guests. Thank you and take care!
this is the best vid you did on ut. it felt genuine
Great video. Itâs fun to see familiar folks on your channel. Keep these guets coming...
A great idea presented by some of my favourite contributors makes this one of the best videos I've seen in some time. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
I was surprised at Hughâs pick, but heâs absolutely right.
Loved the Hugh segment. So thoughtful.
Was glad to meet Hugh, instant subscribe, great point of view :D
Would have to say the X-T3 with the 23 f/1.4. I love the 16mm, but I just love the 23mm lens. Something about it reminds me of film.
Canât go wrong with any of these (even Bellamyâs gorgeous black Canonet he would get rid of)
The Fuji X-T4 that is on its way to me. Along with my 16-55 f2.8. So many of my favorite photos have been taken with my Fuji X-T2 and that 16-55 f2.8. Thank you, Andrew, for all of your excellent CZcams videos. Also, I very much enjoy Hughâs
and Gordonâs CZcams channels. All three of you have excellent voices and sensibilities which add to my photographic life. Thanks.
Hey, love you for that clip. Brilliant idea and your guests were just fabolous. "Three blind man... was my favourite, but they all were great
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just an excellent episode. Loved. And like you, Iâm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my XT-4. Luckily, my wife is totally on board with purchase. I am truly blessed. Good luck to you. I await your full review of the XT-4.
I loved seeing Hugh on here. I heard that amazing voice and legit screamed yeaaaa!
Brilliant video !
Great as always
What a wonderful collaboration! The impending arrival of the X-T4 is hilarious given the preceding conversation, but all jokes aside I truly hope that business picks up again soon in a big way for every photographer going through this.
As for me, it would have to be the X-T2 and 23mm 1.4!
What a fabulous exercise. I'm just sorry that there are so many that are struggling right now. If I had to choose, it would be my X-T3 with my kit 18-55mm - I've been constantly surprised at the images and video I'm able to get from it. Just wish it were weather-sealed...
@Three Blind Men and An Elephant Productions great video, great speach!
Wonderful responses and Hugh is a very rich meal indeed, although I would take Prague over Zurich any day! As for myself it would be my silver X-T3 and 16mm f1.4. Love that camera and lens, been with me everywhere and we make beautiful music together. Well if weâre talking film it would be my precious Nikon FM3A and Zeiss 28mm f/2 ZF.2
Wow. What a coup ! Very interesting to watch !
Loved all these responses!
Hugh Brownstone's entry was a great video all of it's own. Loved it.
agreed
Wonderful collaboration and video! I laugh loud when you talk about the XT4 situation's and I hope you're Ok. Stay safe and take care!
Great video and idea, we need more of these. My desert island camera would be the Sony A7iii + 55mm f1.8 Sony/Zeiss
What a lovely gift, Andrew: a question, and a prompt. THANK you! So enjoyed thinking it through - and watching the answers from everyone else. So enjoy YOU!
Thank you so much Hugh. You regularly give the community so much to think about, and it was a privilege to have you lend your voice on our platform. It's also certainly been wonderful to see so many replies from the community on this one.
Andrew & Denae đ„°
If I get stuck in an island, I hope by that time I already have an Xpro3. With the16-80mm f4.
Made me realize the excess gear we all have. Thanks for the video.
Great video!
Great video Andrew đ First off, I KNEW what Hughâs answer would be even before I heard it! Denaeâs love of the 56mm echoes mine for this phenomenal lens and some of my best photos have come from it , but I would side with you Andrew, and the versatility of the 16 would be the winner for me. Although Gordonâs love one X100 is also tempting! Once again, great video đ
Yes, I would have made some money on the bet about what Hugh's answer would be also :)
Andrew & Denae đ
I may even go with the iPhone 11 Pro. For the very first time, my Pro2 has been reserved for âspecialâ occasions. I still carry it wherever I go, with the 23mm f2 stuck on it, but for general use I donât think you can beat the iPhone (or your smartphone of choice). Never thought Iâd say that!
Great information. Thx
I re-watched this video again, and Iâm glad I did. I am in selling mode, so it was actually a helpful exercise. My choice would be the Leica M2, and the Voigtlander 40mm. So thatâs what Iâm keeping, and since Iâm not on a desert island, a Bessa-T with a broken meter. Also a couple Nikon SLRâs, a family Zeiss Ikoflex, one Fuji X Pro for digital, and thatâs it. Everything else will be sold. Thanks for making this thought provoking video.
It may have been said before and I'm not very familiar with Hugh Brownstone, but I'm pretty sure he is the Jeff Goldblum of photography.
That's it! I have been watching him, for a couple years now, and couldn't quite figure it out. My thanks!
đâ€ïž
He's as annoying
If I could only have one camera and one lens for the rest of my life it would have to be the Leica M10P with the 50mm APO-summicron ASPH. Great video and great mental experiment, keep up the good work and stay safe!
This is great. Itâs a nice reminder of the community weâre all a part of. My answer is my Leica M6/35mm Summicron.
I would love to see a shoot out, particularly from Andrew and Denae, using your desert island camera and lenses. It would be fascinating to see how you approached the same client brief such as a product photograph.
You guys are just a class act in my book. I have been thinking about this a lot as I get ready to put a lot of gear on the chopping block. It is a toss between my Nikon F2sb, or Leica M2 or 4. For digital I am keeping the Panasonic gear, mostly because the Fuji gear will bring more money, and I'm happy enough with Panasonic. My "Desert Island" Photographer is the sickeningly talented Mathieu Stern.
Great video, thank you. I would take my X-T30 + 56mm F1.2, just love that lens
Weirdly my favourites are amongst my cheapest - a Fuji compact X-E3 and XF 27mm pancake
Great idea for a collaboration Andrew! đđ Iâm with Gordon on the X100V however ive never tried the 16mm 1.4 on my xt3
Some great choices... I'd go with keeping my black Nikon F with eye level prism and the 50mm f1.4 S Nikkor pre AI lens
It's funny that I thought of that question since over ten years ago. The answer is probably almost the same. If I can only live with just one camera and a lens, I wouldn't really care much about the camera body but definitely can't live without a ultra wideangle lens.
As we're all known, the body got replace almost every other year. However, there is no camera body in the last fifteen years that we can call it absolutely terrible to shoot with. Fifteen years ago I took most of my photos with a Nikon D50 and a Tamron 11-18mm and I still got tons of great landscape photos with that combo. Three or four years later, I replaced that combo with Nikon D300 and Nikkor 12-24mm and still get all the fantastic photos. Another 3-4 went by and I got myself into Fujifilm X-T1 with Fujinon 10-24mm. Nowadays, it's the time for Canon R5 with RF 15-35mm. So, whenever the question came up my answer is to get me a body and an ultra wide angle lens then I'll be all set.
Brilliant vid, if a little sad. My desert island camera would have to be my Nikon f2as if only cos I know it wouldnât break. The lens would be 28mm f2.8 sis
For me, the most used camera that I have to have with me always is the one on my smartphone (living with a Galaxy S20 right now). Taking snaps of things takes the place of writing stuff down; I digitize a lot of receipts and other documents every day with it. To keep sparking joy in creative photography every time I use it would be a Fuji X100V.
Great video! Good luck getting that T4 past Denae.
For me, if it was 35mm film I really like the Pentax LX with the 50 1.4 M series. Iâve never shot a Leica, but that combo is hard to beat and produces outstanding images and perfect exposures. Itâs a joy to use. For digital, I donât know yet. I have the X-T2 and X-H1 and they do the job, but to quote U2, âI still havenât found what Iâm looking for.â I do like rangefinder style bodies, so maybe the X-Pro3 or X100V. Iâve only tried them out in a camera store, so I canât really say. And that is one of the reasons I probably watch too many CZcams camera reviews. đ
Your hat is awesome lol. Dig it!
For me I would have to say The Mamiya 7 and the 65mm F4, such a versatile setup and fills my every need. Never owned a better camera setup!
D&A brought together just the right people to answer this question! Only person whose answer I would be interested in besides Hugh, Gordon etc would be Mattias!
As for me, I would take a Lumix Gx9 to my sandy purgatory, given the choice..
Haha. I thought about reaching out to Mattias also, but I think we know what he'd say. He only ever has two camera bodies at a time, and what he's got right now he's described as a "dream camera". So I think we know his answer.
@@AndrewGoodCamera Or "whatever you have most fun with!"đ
Thanks for making this video, makes the lockdown feel a little easier! đ
A Great set of photographers and you tubers. I agree with Gordon. Film? Nikon FM with a 50mm.
This was a great video thanks
xt3 / Fuji 35 1.4 OR canon 5D classic with 50mm 1.2
Leica q2 would be my desert island camera !!! Loved the video cheers
Thanks Andrew.
YW!
Ty for putting the photographers link in the description! Its a pet peeve of mine! đđ»
Hope you guys are doing well. Still think about you wifeâs âidiot screenâ comment on the xpro 3! Epic! đđ»
That is a very easy question to answer. Graflex Speed Graphic and Aero Ektar 178/2.5. Best portrait gear ever.
Loved this man thank you! If it were me...and itâs not exactly practical...I would choose any A7Rii (sentimental value) or the A7RIV (current body) with my 85mm 1.4 G master. Thanks for doing this Andrew! Now Iâve got some new content creators to check out!
I enjoyed your video and the thought of your colleagues. I feel sad for all professional photographers out there, which most of them are in isolation to protect their family, friends, neighbours, your country, and the world from COVID 19. Stay safe and be brave.
I have a very sentimental love for this camera that I would stick too if I was stuck on desert island. My Minolta X-570 with 50mm f1.7 and my flash 360PX with a tons of Fujifilm 100 ISO. I bought this camera in mid-80's with several other Minolta SLR cameras around the same time. This is the camera that I learned my skill as a photographer, make money to buy more gears. Even today, I still enjoyed to take my Minolta X-570 out to shoot film. It is not as good as my Sony A7II, however it keeps me focus.
For me, if I were to be literally stuck on a desert island with only one camera and lens, I would choose my Minolta SRT-101 with a Rokkor 58mm f/1.4. An absolutely solid camera with a lens that exactly matches the scale to which our eyes see things. I think the idea of having hundreds of rolls of undeveloped Tri-X in a container wash up on a beach 20 years after my death is far more exciting than taking shots on a DSLR or mirrorless, only for it to eventually be eroded by the salt and sand.
J-Cat Does Some Stuff The 101 was my first camera. I have one here in my home for decor and memories.
Excellent question, I took my A7 M3 with my Vintage Carl Zeiss Jena 35mm f2.4 Flektogon and everything was perfect.
Thanks for the video
Hugh did an awesome job.
My canon 5DS and Canon 50mm 1.2 L. Great video.
I own a Nikon D850 with a couple lenses but my answer would definitely be my X100F đ Loved the video btw! Thank you!
X-pro2 with the 35mm lens for me. The beauty of the x-pro2 is that you can use it as simple or complicated as you want.
Mine would have to be my Fujifilm XT-2 and the XF 23mm f/2
Damn, Hugh WENT IN (in the best possible way). So good!
The camera with a nimbus you wear is really cool :D
Great video, not sure how I missed this one. Nikkormat ftn with 55 macro or fuji xt3 with 60 2.4
Thank you Andrew forwarding the opinions of a few of my favourite photographers l came across through CZcams channels and to a little icing on the cake l must mention your dashing demeanor brightens my love for photography. Although I am only watching your second video but I feel the attachment is so ancient. I love to see Mr. Huge Brownstone after a real lapse of time and he is to me so evangelical. Well if you have asked me what my gears would be if I'd be in a desert island, l confess that l'd take my age old Minolta X-700 with Vivitar 28-85 crude, 50mm 1.2 MD Rokkor, and Minolta MD 100-200 f 5.6 lenses. And l'd obviously take my ASUS ZENFONE M2. These equipments l really in love and l know I'm not going to sell them at any cost. Last but not the least I'd take with me, only l could afford, any mirrorless camera of Leica be it 1080 or 4K video compatibility. Thanks once again remain safe and secure.
XE-3, and the 16mm 2.8. Keeping it light and minimal, I love this combo. Yeah yeah, I know the 16 1.4 is great, but, gotta be swift to catch those great apocalyptic images!
Wonderful video. Since I'm in the process of moving from Canon to Fuji, my choice would be a Fuji camera. Since Christmas I bought the X100F and the X-T3. Still learning both so not sure which would be THE camera, but definitely one of these two so far. But, I'll see what I buy next.
I would love to keep my XPro2 and pair it with the Mitakon 35mm f0.95 mk 2. I love that combo and both the camera as well as the lens feel like a modern classic pair.
I also own an X100s that has a lot of sentimental value for me, which I hope my wife would save as her lost island camera. If we are are marooned together we can keep swapping back and forth ;)
Love my X-H1 with my 23 1.4. If it wasn't that I'd have to say a Leica Q2... although I've never tried it I think it would hit most of my needs. :)
For me, it would be a Fujifilm GFX50R with the GFX 45mm lens.
Great compilation. H.B. could talk me into a Leica CL if I had more cash, but I preordered the Street Photog book! G.L. great insight. .Thanks all.
If I had to choose a single Camera and a single lens, I would choose an Olympus OMD EM1 mark iii + Olympus 12-100 f4. With this set, I could photograph everything I love: from birds and wildlife, stars, Landscape, Macro ... etc ... And all this in a compact, robust and weatherproof equipment.
TITAOSTEIN I just posted my choices, then read down through the comments, and saw yours. Those Olympus cameras are woefully underrated, in my opinion.
Great video idea! I too am in the process of downsizing atm, not down to one camera though. But in the one camera one lens scenario, I'd take my Ricoh GR III
Thanks for the great video, again. For me it would be these:
- Digital: Fujifilm XT3 & 35F2. BUT > If there are no people, I don't see the logic of having an extremely versatile lens. If I would really be alone, it would be paired with the 16 1.4. Sold all my lenses to keep just these two so logically it's a toss between those.
- Film: Nikon F3hp and 50mm 1.4 ais. This was my first film combo. Got it in immaculate condition. Meanwhile I have 7 film cameras, but the F3 and that gorgeous piece of glass keep to amaze me. Shot close to 160 rolls through it so far and it just never ever disappoints. Just shot 8 rolls of cinefilm, mostly at night and the results are book worthy. With the ecn2 development and professional scanning I saw just how good this kit is.
My 2 cents.
Stay safe man
BRO nice one. Interesting food for thought. Idk if this merits a whole vid on my channel, or if people would even really care lol. But right before all this happened I was getting ready to sell a bunch of stuff and get some new gear. But I think I couldn't part ways with my Zeiss 55mm f1.8 for Sony. That shit is sharp af, gorgeous for portraits, pretty frustrating for video (which is good, I'd always have something to complain about) and it just... it looks very sexy. Them blades. Oh my. Hope you and the fam are hanging in there and staying safe.
I own an XPro-1, X100T, XT-10 and XT-2, and numerous lenses. I would keep my X100T. It's just such a great all around camera.
my Desert Island Kit would be my Nikon FM2n with the 50mm f1.4. If i can find some coffee trees i could try to use self made coffeinol and develop my tmax400 XD and Maybe if i find another glass i could use the light from my fire pit to proyect the negative into a stone wall for carving my pictures on to haha . Stay safe and well , great video . Greetings from Tijuana Mexico
What a wonderful video. Sorry to hear about having sell some stuff Andrew, as someone who has so much 'stuff' I dread the thought of having to sell any of my cameras because they all get used and all have sentimentality attached to them. Having to pick one is such a hard choice. Maybe my Nikon F3 and 50mm AIS F1.8 pancake (Japan only version). Stay safe guys during these crazy covid days. I am so thankful to be Australian.
Thanks so much!
Very entertaining video, I enjoyed.
My pick after using a lot of digital cameras would definitely be my EM5 II plus the 45mm f1.8, it's such a bang in a small package. If I can choose only an analog camera I would definitely choose the Leica M3 + 50mm f2 Summicron ASPH
Sorry. Original comment meant for someone else.
Hey Andrew, awesome video like always, first thought that come to my mind was my XT3 and my 16mm F1.4 yup that's the pair, I would really miss my Fuji 80mm though...
my choice is xpro 1 with 18mm f2 this combination just talks to me all the time. great question and great responses. I found it very interesting in that everyone chose prime lens and a body that talks to them and is this not the heart of inspired photography? Cheers for now Graham
For digital my newly acquired X100S would be staying and would be parting ways with the Xpro1 and Xt20 which hardly get used now. For film Iâd have to keep my Nikon F4 with the 50mm 1.8 series 2 lens because itâs great. Best wishes to you and your family
Great video... For me itâs easy... My Leica Q. Small, beautifulllll lens, tack sharp wide open, zone focusing, versatile focal length, durable. Itâs my favorite camera Iâve every tried/owned. (Would love the Q2, but havenât tried it)
Fully agree. Can't forget the Macro functionality. Q2 adds more pixels for cropping power, weather and dust resistance so perfect as a desert island camera.
OMFG!!! This has been the No. 1 question I've always wondered about lol ... The one problem I couldn't think around was with - Film : dev. & stock Digital : charging the battery & storage. However, with hypothetic scenario in mind, these would be my choices :
Film : Nikon F3 w/ 28-70mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF-S
Digital : Olympus OMD EM1 mark 3 w/ Olympus 12-100 f4
Great video! For me, it's easy. Film would be the Minolta CLE w/ 40mm f/2 rokkor lens. Digital would be the X100V (I've been using the x100 series since 2014 and still love them).
For me, I think an X100V and Iâm about to do it, but the video creator side of things prevents me from doing it .... unless I can make an iPhone work đ€
Definitively my XT-2. Not sure about the lens, as I haven't tried out the 56mm f1.2 and 16mm f1.4...
Great video! Great idea! For me, X-E3 + 10-24/4.0. Cheers!
Desert island camera.... hmm... currently the canon EOS M5 and 22mm f/2 pancake prime. Small, light, all the controls right out on the body. I know it hasnât gotten a lot of love in the reviewer community, but, man... once you start using it, coupled with that lens... there is just something about that particular combination of body and lens that just works on so many levels. At least for me.
