    Glad to hear of TACP . I was a TACP with the 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne, at LZ Baldy in 1968 Vietnam. 20-year old Sgt that had free reign to call in airstrikes, direct sniffer missions from my reports to direct returning fighters to drop their ordinance, maintaining activity reports of suspected enemy locations, racking up body counts to report...I was highly influenced by John Wayne (something I said in front of a woman that made her recoil). I was stopped by an officer in Danang for not saluting him because I had been so far removed from ...a base. They should have put me on a boat home, because the Bird of Paradise dropped me off in a world that had no idea of what I was up to. A result of being human and having a certain guilt for the air war and destruction and death I brought. I still now at 77 go to sleep with my imagination of all of this. All the wonderful cars I had could not detract from my dream sleep. Now it seems you no longer are able to let loose the capabilities you have available to you. I have nothing but utmost respect for you being there and the commitment you and your family gave you.

    10 years SOF TACP. I got out in 2016, it’s a very different AF now and I would highly discourage anyone looking to join. TACP is getting hit hard and I don’t recognize it anymore.

      😄 I thought the same thing when this was announced. Pathfinder Compaines inactivated, too, along with Benning's (507th) Pathfinder course!

    This sounds like TACP is going towards something similar to how the STS are set up. Will TACP still be considered conventional warfighters or are they being blended into STS as a whole?

    I was thinking about trying out with the 182d in Peoria, IL for TACP and then found out the unit got retired 😅 so now I am sticking with Active Duty.

    Hmmm, so 50% reduction and re-classing TACPs? What I hear in this is the Air Force will just make the CCT guys do more JTAC work even in the non-spec ops area, hoping the current TACPs will retrain to CCTs. Or if the Air Force stays true to previous B.S. that they have done, they will just say that the TACP job will become a "certification" for another career field to take on. I wonder if the Army will create a TACP type career field? Just my opinion.

      @dantemarkow4996 Před 8 měsíci +2

      No, theres only 80% fill rate in the USAF TACP atm due to not meeting the recruitment quota. So they’re looking to cut 50% of the 20% of jobs that are unfilled

      From my knowledge army sends people to become a jtac / we also have fisters that are jfo certified (a step down from jtac stuff) but can still call in cas etc

    I think a good route for this career. Fill to take would be a more covert operation type, such as being able to employ electronic warfare. Not just from a computer, but boots on the ground the localized. EMPs things like that to shut down power grids and shut down threats. Before they happen, such as being able to shut down and tier system. That we're trying to get into things like that. But with electronics versus an airstrike

      That’s what we have with SR (not the specific weapon/effects you’re talking about, but the capability).

    With all the drone usage you see in conflicts like Ukraine, and the advances in drone technology china’s military is creating… you’d think the U.S. military would see the benefits of investing more in TACP, to train them for the types of combat were seeing now in this day and age.

    Im just a dumb civilian I think TACP should get involved, with the amateur radio community, as well to learn to be more versatile.
