  • Hello folks. This is Part 2 of my Railroad Tie Rifle/Pistol Range Backstop build. During this video, I remove soil, roots and prep the ground for building my RR Tie backstop. Since the RR Ties are so heavy, I cannot afford portions of the foundation to be soft soil while other portions are pushed-up by tree roots so the best bet was to remove the top layer of soil and lay down some rock/gravel. I tried to make the video interesting but I guess you can only make digging soil and roots so interesting. I hope you'll view the entire video and leave your comments. I enjoy your comments and will entertain any constructive criticism to help me develop good content in future videos.
    I wish all of you a gratifying day and pray that you're all in fine health. Thanks again for your support and please enjoy the video Houndsman One 👍🏽🤠 .

    Hi Don! Nice job! Looks like you have a LOT of rock dust in your gravel, but that should be good for your purpose. Looking forward to seeing you put up the railroad ties!

      Thanks Martin. I will be stacking, cutting, staking, pounding, and drilling a lot to ensure a solid backstop build. It will probably be overkill but I think this monolith will out last my old tired behind. I finished the actual build and now must depend on my internet to let me know if it feels feels up to it 😁. I'm kinda at the mercy of super slow internet but positive thinking. Thanks much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate your support. Have a fine week, my friend. 👍🏽🤠

      Hello Joseph. Thank you for watching and commenting. Yep, that Piranha Toothbar did a pretty good job uprooting those roots, didn't it? I would have had one heck of a time had I had to do it by hand or had I just used a plain edge on the FEL bucket. It was a bit intensive raking rock by hand but that's behind me now so in Part 3 you'll see the actual build of the rifle range backstop. I should have Part 3 video released late this week and I think the build turned out quite well. Thank you again for your faithful support. I hope you enjoy Part 3, too. I think most folks are more than ready to see the build underway. I too was quite anxious to just get this project done and prepped so that I could do some shooting. Well, now I'm closer to slinging some lead down range. Thank you again for supporting my channel and have a fine week. Don 👍🏽🤠 9/6/22

      Hey there Andy. You got that right. That Piranha Toothbar cuts through those underground roots like butter and it would have been a bit more challenging with a standard bucket edge. Well, I finally got the backstop constructed and will soon have Part 3 released. Thanks much for the support, Andy. You and several other kind folks have been quite supportive and I really do appreiate that. Okay, I'll see you on your next build or weld. Have a fine week, brother. Don 👍🏽🤠 9/6/22

    That looks like some wild root clearing,,, I got tired just watching it! The cutters on the front of your bucket must have been quite helpful! On grabbing material from the ground, to move it elsewhere, I am not nearly skilled enough yet, but I have some composting soil I turn over often for practice... one day, I'll get there.
    Heading over to part 3 now!

    • @houndsmanone4563
      @houndsmanone4563  Před 2 lety

      Ha, right Ray, that jagged-edged contraption is a Piranha toothbar. It's made specifically for that sort of work and once you do it often enough, you kind of get a hang of it. I still have a problen of digging too deep at times. The roots pretty much dictated how deep to dig. They were some tough old roots but the toothbar gave them a good cut and snap. As you noticed, a final hand-snipping with loppers was required to remove several stubborn roots that would not snap. Thanks again for watching. I hope you enjoyed.

I copied the actual backstop a design from a fellow CZcams channel and hope it does what I want it to do. The build wore my azz out brother. I did alot of work with the loader. I even dug out many many stumps with the forks but after 1500 hours the loader started showing signs of wear and tear so I bought a backhoe attachment. Now I just use my loader to spread gravel and lighter duty stuff as appose to digging out stumps. It does take it's toll after a bit. My Kubota has 3700 hours on it now. It has been a good machine. Great video.

    • @houndsmanone4563
      @houndsmanone4563  Před rokem

      Thanks Ray. You're right, the FEL does take a beating over time. On my last Massey open-platform tractor (MF 1533), the loader was used for everything and I had the pirannha toothbar edge on it to prevent bowing of the bucket and to retain the front edge/lip and the toothbar saved a lot of potential headaches. Before I got the toothbar, I started to see a slight bow in the bucket so before I damaged it further, I got the toothbar and the rest was history. Your Kubota has served you well. I've seen your tractor in action and it got a pretty good workout when you were creating the path through that rocky terrain. Bota's are tough and hold up quite well. Thanks for watching and commenting, Ray. Have a fine Thanksgiving. It's our 44th wedding anniversary today so let me get my behind in gear to see what my bride may want me to do. Don 👍🏽🤠 11/14/22

      Thanks Josh. The bucket has been extremely beneficial and the piranha toothbar has helped me rip through numerous rooty areas but it's not the answer for every situation. I'd love to have an excavator. I don't always need one but I think it would be cheaper to rent for a week instead of purchasing one for $60-80K. Yep, the white F250 has been a great vehicle to pull heavy loads but I wish the overall ride was not so stiff. The white F250 is a crew cab with an 8ft bed. My shorter F150 is an Extended cab that has a 5.5ft bed. So the ride is softer/smoother. The shorter F150 has a 5L gas engine while the F250 has a 6.2L gas engine. Both are strong but again, the overall ride in the shorter F150 is smoother and less teeth-jarring 😁. So far I've only shot on my range a little b/c of weather and the cost of ammo. You just can't win. Say hey to Autum for me. See you guys on your next adventure. Don 👍🏽🤠 8/26/23

    • @houndsmanone4563
      @houndsmanone4563  Před 2 lety

      Hey there Chris. The cutting edge on my front loader is the PIRANHA TOOTHBAR made and sold by BXPANDED and that toothbar makes cutting into dirt, roots, etc quite simple b/c a regular bucket edge would have just slid-up over those roots or the bucket edge would not even have budged past the thick roots. In fact the toothbar protects the bucket's edge from bowing from constant slamming into tough objects below the surface. The Piranha Toothbar is pretty simple to install onto a loader bucket. You have a skid steer and I would recommend one for the skid steer bucket edge. Alright my friend, I'll see you in your next video and hopefully you'll watch Part 3 of my rifle range backstop build. I think everyone is a bit over-anxious to see how it turns out. I know I was quite anxious as I was constructing the backstop.
