- These early model Lexus' seem like the pinnacle of Lexus Luxury to me. They most certainly don't make them like they used to! The GS 430 does not disappoint. Any GS will make you happy!

I subscribed at "the fuck was that noise??". Lmao. Its probably just a dirty window felt.
Hahaha thank you 😂
Ahh yeah I’m gonna try to spray some window cleaner or something down there
Lol he was formal and professional throughout the whole video, that threw me off
@@noelr1010 this is not school to be formal
Who needs that? We need informative yet funny video
@@Druze_Tito lmao I agree, it was just unexpected, that's all
@@noelr1010 I know, Jim
My everyday driver for past 9 yrs. is my 98' Lexus GS400. I now have 205k miles, & by far best car I've ever owned!!
That’s great!! I hope to keep mine for a long time too!
400 is the best 2nd gen GS imo between the 300, 400, and 430. 400 gets better gas mileage than the 300, and the 400 also has the manumatic gear shifters in steering wheel whereas 430 does not. Also, the throttle was changed on the 430 it’s kind of laggy in comparison to the 400
@@rosstabosshow does a V8 get better MPG than a V6?
@@flyxguy956 by good design and engineering. The difference is minimal, though. If you look at the manual, it will say slightly better city mileage in the V8. If you actually drive both of them in practical application in everyday life, the 300 has to work harder to get the car up to speed, burns a lot more in the city mileage. Also, there is no V6 GS300, it’s inline 6.
@@rosstaboss thanks for the reply, I never see the 400s for sale but I’ll wait patiently on the sidelines. I’m just looking for a daily I can slide once in a while.
Owned a 2000 Lexus GS 300. Sold it to my cousin cheap in 2012 and he kept it for 10 years. Best car ever!!
Nice!! They're so dope
Awesome video, I own a GS400 and every time I drive it I have a good time . I'm still puzzled at how cheap they are considering it is a rear wheel drive V8 from Toyota.
Thank you! Yeah this car really makes me feel youthful again, even though I’m only 20 LOL. The Volvo’s I had in the past made me feel so old lol
It's official, Toyota doesn't need a separate brand to sell its higher-end models anymore. After having read your comment, it made me wonder if Toyota hadn't eclipsed Lexus as a brand of quality and luxury cars?.
@@tony64t Well these were sold as Toyota Aristo in Japan so you're not wrong. They even had the 2JZ-GTE!
theyre getting pricey
@@MattPark-vp2ud in GA most are selling for 6k or less the cheaper you go the more work you do and little to no rust .
I've owned 6 of these beauties since 2007, including a GS400 I just picked up today! It's in my favorite color Cinnabar Red, and I'll be swapping in a black interior (saddle or black are the only way to go, tan looks ugly). Already have all the exterior 01+ upgrades. It was my dream car back in 07 and is still my favorite sedan of all time. GS 4 life!
my 98 black with tan leather interior gs 400 is the only way i would spec that car. black on black not a fan
Mine is triple black, black isf wheels, black interior, black leather and I replaced all the grey with black and wrapped the pillars in black velour. Looks great with the woodgrain upgraded steering wheel. I may look for saddle interior now.
@@MyKeeP81 To each their own. Black looks more modern and luxurious IMO. I have 2 complete mint tan interiors in the garage lol.
@@Ghost-Of-Kyiv- Black wood wheel and wood ashtray make a big difference. Im looking for a GS400 wood wheel but the only one that fits is the 03 Sport design. I want to keep E-shift and plug and play airbag.
@@noelr1010 Yeah I def need that
I have a 98 gs400 and trust me the throttle response from the cable make it better than a 430 and also only the 400 came with button shifters on the steering wheel and I still use them today
I know I'm late to reply but just wanted to say the GS400 wasn't the only one that came with button shifters on the steering wheel, the GS300 has them too but I think in only the facelifted version
I have a 2000 gs300 black on black by far the very nicest riding and most reliable car I’ve ever had. Love this car and the way toyota takes care of their customers
There's a Honda Accord V6 next to me. You know what's gonna happen!
MY MAN 🤣💪🏿
😂😂
I just bagged mine and it’s the most gorgeous car i’ve ever seen dumped on the ground! I’m literally selling my first new car,i’ve been building for 20 years! A 99 Honda Prelude,Over 200 Trophy wins and i don’t even want to drive her anymore!
Another gs430 owner here from 🇬🇧! I love it! Still better than alot of modern day cars 👍
You’ve got that right!
Nice, how reliable has it been?
It’s sick af and comfortable
Did you say 12.9 for the 1/4 mile time??? Try 14.7 - awesome video and I love the GS
It’s actually 14 seconds flat
I daily drive a very rare 2003 GS430 in factory burgundy! 135k original miles clean title! I love it.
Mint!!!
Love this video! Especially your piece on the history of the GS 🙏🏿👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Thank you! I love learning about these cars!!
That was an awesome overview man. I really enjoyed all the information you shared. It's a car with a solid history. I just bought a 2006 GS430. I agree with everything you said about the car. It's SO nice. The damn build quality. It's through the roof! It drives so smooth and effortlessly.
This is the result of outstanding engineering AND execution/production.
Very interesting to see how far my 06 has come compared to the 01. Mine feels upgraded in many ways to yours.
If you made more videos on this car I'd watch em.
Thank you Im glad! Yeah unfortunately my time with Selena was relatively short lived haha, was like a rebound car 😂
My daily since 2007; Burnished Gold 2002 GS430 - 230000+ and still running strong. A joy to drive.
Sweeeett!
Great review - I've been recently wanting one of these as a project car ... Thanks for confirming all my thoughts about why it might be an awesome next ride. 👍
I’m happy to hear it helped! I love mine
Great video and excellent deliver on subject. Thanks for sharing man. I appreciate your craft.
Thank you! I appreciate that!
I enjoyed your review a lot. I like the details discussed at a very specific level. You nailed it.
Much appreciated!
Under appreciated is right! It took me a while to find a good review on it since I’ve been researching them and your video was very helpful
Thanks man!
Excellent breakdown. I love my 2 430s!
Thank you! I love mine too!
Beautiful car. Had a ‘99 GS300, which I wish I still had. In mine, the grove on the top right of the glove box housed an extra 6-CD changer, so you could keep an extra 6 discs in a separate changer ready to be popped into the player. This was great on long road trips. Congrats on owning a clean GS, hope you keep it for a very long time!
Very good thank you sir!
Love this detailed video, great work fam 💯
Thank you bro!
I've been wanting this car for years. Subscribed.
Welcome!!
Loved the video man job well done. I drive a '97 Toyota Aristo and love this platform. DMV 4 life!

Hahaha gotta keep it real LOLL, thank you!
I had a 1999 GS400 for 21 years. Loved it.
Nice!!
Good for you bud..and now you don't. That sucks. Sorry to hear. Maybe again some day...Probably not. Damn. That's too bad.
KEEP UP THE CONTENT LOVE THE 2ND GEN GS'S 😍👏👌
Thank you!!!
I’ve owned Lexus’ since 1998, and Toyotas since 1984. My only complaints are the low horsepower and lack of a totally manual shifter. I LOVE my ‘06 GS 430 that I purchased new with 58 miles, and currently have a little over 180k. I don’t plan to ever get rid out it. With reference to fuel mileage, the faster it’s driven, the higher the gas mileage. At 85 or more, it averages 24/25. The car still really drives great. My desire for high horsepower and a manual shift has me considering a Cadillac CT5V Blackwing, but their limited production will probably have me settling for the LC 500. And I’m still going to keep my GS.
Yeah man, I really wish I could have a manual GS haha
I have an 06 gs430 with 240k miles and I had an Ls430 before with 350k+ miles …. Great cars
I daily a 2GS and it has been amazing. It is so smooth and worry free. I also drove it across America without any issues. It is such an underrated car.
I can’t wait to take mine on more trips!
I can relate it pretty much everything anybody is saying here I have a 2000 GS 300 black on black it is by far the finest car I have ever had is reliable easy to work on and doesn’t need much maintenance I do oil changes air filters clean it Keep the leather conditioned and it still rides as good as it did when it was new got 141,000 miles on it. I have no intention of letting it go I’ve looked at new cars they are just not built this nice any longer too much plastic, I also have a 93SC 400 and that is an amazing piece of engineering understated these cars are going up in value they just don’t make them like this any longer 4 liter V8 that smooth and reliable transmission same drivetrain is the same as the LS 400 they did it right they took Mercedes-Benz and BMW on for a good ride. Even Benz and BMW are not the same as it used to be. They’ve keeping them up quite a bit also, and are not nearly as reliable.
Great car , I owned gs400 for 8 years, great car - bulletproof engine transmission , nice quality interior only weakness was abs and brakes! I was crying when I was selling it . If I could I would keep it !
I appreciate the historical context you gave in the beginning of your video. Cannot for your channel to exponentially grow,

This GS was the first Lexus I've ever seen up close and personal back in 2002. It was my friends mom's car and since seeing it. I made a promise to myself that my first car will be a Lexus GS. Ended up getting the 2014 GS350 F-Sport back in 2017 as my first car.
Nice thats one helluva first car!
@@BernonCars never thought that I'd get a dream car as my first. FYI I've never seen or even knew the 2014 GS350 F-Sport existed

Thank you very much!
My1st gen is approaching 300k miles, up here in Toronto you don't see the 1st gen anymore and maybe there are 2 or 3 2nd gen GS sightings per year....both generations yes are underappreciated.....the LS 400 got all the attention
Very nice and mostly 100% accurate ...the zero to sixty is closer to 6 specs than 5. And no N/A GS430 is capable of 12's in the quarter mile. (And a stock C5 Vette is BARELY capable of 13's, as well) But thank you for the vid bro. It was very enjoyable to watch - I liked your whole vid
12s from a stock gs430 isnt gonna happen.
Right lmao
Awesome review, well done.

Thank you! Those 3rd gens are sweeeet!!! Enjoy it!
@@BernonCars most welcome. Yes can’t wait to see how it goes.
Probably, the best GS body and for sure the best Toyota engine of all time.
Had different kinds of GS & LS bodies and now am owning a GS430 like yours.
It's a bit more "sporty" in comparison with LS430, but the engine feels similar.
This one and the third gen are the best
@@gabegarcia7779 third gen is absolutely beautiful, but has problems
Thats because its the same 4.3l v8
@Jay Dee the first gen is definitely a gem
I just picked up a gs430 and wow. This car is amazing!!! Blows everything away
I love this car, especially in this color and interior design, have lots of childhood memories, and always remember good past times.
Yeah man I totally agree!
Beautiful proportions all around great find

I personally would keep the factory head unit to keep it mint. I think there’s a hack to tap into the head unit to make a line in. When I bought my SC, the previous owners figured it out.
i have a 98 GS400 in silver and black.
great car. over 330,000kms.
i also had a 95 GS300 the first gen.
the rear lights treatment simply gorgeous
Nice!
Nice review. Looking for a gs 300 2005-2010 right now. Driven rx 300 but dont luke the expensive air suspension.
Thank you!
actually dude. the wood steering wheel was a $1500 option in 01 according to my window sticker for my gs430. $52,000 total. love this car. and, it was faster than my 86 944 turbo. sold it and got a 2005 sc430. roll on man. ridin' in style. i wish i had your black interior.
Oh shit! Interesting. Ohh yeah I love mine!! SC is hella nice too!
Cool ride - I still think it's a desirable car. And they bring decent money (for the age and what it is) even high miles, a testament initial and continuing quality. I'd say it's a good deal. (Couple years ago almost bought a GS350 F Sport, just didn't have enough power - so I went German - but I'll bet I've paid for it over the years!)
0:58 still on the subject, the ES is the Windom, the LX is the Land Cruiser Cygnet (same as the other Land Cruisers but for the front end), and the GX is the Land Cruiser Prado (not the 4runner, although they are somewhat related). Also, the RX is the Harrier.
Nice review brother
Thank you!
Looking forward to seeing the full resto.
I have two of these, an ‘01 and an ‘03. One was wrecked last year and I’m still swapping parts from old to the new cause some parts were in better condition on the ‘01.
I second your choice of LS wheels. Those are dope and fit the styling of the 2nd Gen GS better than the new wheels.
Thank you! I’m very excited for spring. Yup I got the LS wheels already!! They look so good
Very good review 👍👍👍Thank you
I have a 2002 GS430 and I brought it in 2003 as a demo model with model with full warranty. Only used the warranty once to replace the entertainment section. Without warranty would have been $6K back then. But nothing but good things to say about it. I dropped it about 2 inches and did a cold air intake and Borla exhaust. I’ve babied the car and have 160k on it and I could right now go in the garage and take it across country without any worries. I’ve met others with their GS and they had 300k miles on them. You can drive this car to the moon and back. It will keep going. I hope you enjoy your GS as much as I do.
I love mine! I can't wait to fix my head unit issues haha
Your GS is dope Bro. Nice review.👍
Proud owner of a silver 2000 LS400 up here in Canada. Same wood grain steering wheel as yours and I agree, you definitely feel like a pimp when you’re grippin that wood 🪵😆.
I met an old guy with a white 2001 GS430 only 70000 kms last year. Barely drives it. Left my contact info with him in case he ever wants to sell. Still hope to hear from him someday.
Peace to all the Lexus lovers worldwide.🌎
Thank you bro! I love it so much.. Ouuu those 400's are so nice. White 430's are hard to find! Beautiful!
I subscribed after, “theres a v6 honda accord next to me, yk whats finna happen” 🤣
Lmaoo hell yeah!! 🤣🤣
Wish yours had the stock chrome 17’s on still but dam bro those gs350 wheels clean
I look forward to the comparisons between the LS430 of the same era!
I’m excited to film them!
Thanks great video! I am going for LS then as i usually need to fit 3bodies in the trunk 😂
Hell yeah! 😂
Also, you have the best combo in my opinion...black on black

@@BernonCars you are welcome dear The Office fan :)
I been riding GS since day 1 fresh outta high school. I just bought an SC this year. Looking to boost my GS sooner than later!
Hell yeah!
Never driven a gs400 but my gs300 is absolutely a blast. Yes only 225hp but it's very snappy and in perfect shape. Looking at a gs400 right now. I'd like to have both.🏁🏁🏁🏁👌
Such good sedans
We didn't get the first generation GS in Australia but the 2nd generation was the first series sold here, but only with 2JZ GE and only auto.
If all things go well, I'm going to be looking to buy one soon
You’ll enjoy it! So smooth
Excellent review dude. I was going to get one years ago, but got a Cadillac DTS instead. Strictly for the V8. GS was a close 2nd choice
Thank you! DTS is a nice car!! Smooth
When you opened your door and I saw the wood on Black leather 😍😍😍😍
Such a great review, the GS was never on my radar and after such a well informed review it is now. I have the LS430 with the same engine and always thought about buying an SC, now maybe a GS?
Thank you! You kinda get the best of both worlds with the GS!
Yea the old SC is nice ( bacially a supra) if you like spirited driving. However it's very difficult to find an SC that has not been trashed and/or ghetto'd out.
GS vs LS depends on your driving habits/preferences.
Had it brand new this car still POPS! We are buying these classics from this GS 400 to Acura Legends (GS Edition) it was some era with this car especially in NYC.
Nothing like them!!!
@@BernonCars Outright! Mint! 🤝
I'm was thinking about buying one, this video convinced me. I found one for sale for 2k. The owner just has is sitting in the drive way so I made an offer and they said yes.
Helll yeahh, they’re great cars. Go for it!
Lexus officially quoted the 2nd gen GS430 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and the 1/4 mile in mid 14 second range verified by a few car magazines.
I had a 98 gs with a twin turbo set up. Ran 10s with an otherwise pretty much stock engine.
One thing I noticed you didn’t mention is that there’s actually a third layer to the trunk, underneath the plastic one, I thought I was missing a spare when I got mine, but I realized that there was another pocket underneath the plastic one, and in that pocket was my spare. Not sure if you knew this or not, but figured I’d share!
Ohh yeah haha I just wasn’t able to lift it with one hand in the video 😅. So nice that I can fit a full size spare down there!
I am surprised how many people never mentioned that the first gen GS is huge. I believe it is even larger than an LS, at over 5 meters long.
Cool video, I'm in the process of buying a new car? The gs is at the top of my list.🎉
Good choice!
your Gs is clean!!! Take care of her
Absolutely!
Very nice review, and it looks like you've got a keeper! I'm in the market for a GS now, undecided between the GS300/350 or the GS400 series. Apparently all use premium gas & I've heard that the gas mileage isn't all that great, but there's only about a 1mpg difference between the 6's and the 8's. Might as well go for more power then, but I'm really looking for more comfort. All these Lexus' seem to be supremely comfortable, which my convertible just isn't. Now to find one that's had some love in the past & has a good price tag!
Thank you! Yeah they're suuuucch nice cars. I ended up selling mine because I wanted something sportier, and then ended up buying a truck 😂
My 03 GS300 does have the wood steering wheel. But, it is the Sport Design
Ahhh that’s why. Nice spec!
3rd Gen ES300 did offer Nakamichi sound and real wood inlays. Everything but power steering column
X pipe, 2.75" exhuast.... heaven.
I need another one of these
I have this same model. I love it! I’m a few miles from 300k, and this thing still Moves! I love driving it. The only thing I don’t like is the navigation unit. It’s annoying lol. So I would love to see what you find doing your research for a new head unit. So if you can, please do a video on the head unit options you find.
Thank you 🙏🏾
Still figuring it out! This is the first car that I've had to do months of research on harnesses and such LOL
Hello, I actually installed an android 10.1 with detachable screen for security in my gs300 and it's pretty awesome. I added an extra 2tb hard drive so it stores everything from files to movies and enough music 🎶 to last until Christ comes back.😁 Also using the factory amp but upgraded to speakers to separates front/ rear.
I love those gs 430!!!!
Update! I found LS wheels! The 2016 GS wheels are sold, and the stock chrome wheels are sold too.
Thanks guys 😅
Brilliant cars!
The second gen. GS isn’t a "2000s sedan" though.
It’s a product from the 90s!
The third gen. of the GS is a "2000s sedan"!
Cheers 🙂
If you haven’t ditched the OE system you should just add an aux input I have one on my car and it uses one of the cd files from the 6 disc changer
I pretty much got the same GS430 as you besides mine being 2004, mine is also silver, black leather interior, same orange walnut wood interior. Where did you get those floor mats? Awesome video!
Ahh nice. Thank you! The mats actually came with the car, haha
You earned my Subscription, how close would you say the Ls430 handles compared to a Gs430?
Thank you! Hmm. The GS definitely feels smaller and more nimble. Better on fast, tight corners. The LS still handles really well but I chose the GS because it handles better on the roads I like to have fun on
I currently daily drive a 22 supra 3.0 painstakingly , while it is the best bang for the buck for performance but in terms of practicality though, its quite horrendous which is a reason why i decided to look into 4 door sedans as my business requires me to haul stuff and people around. My minimum requirement was that what ever the car i get, it must be *rwd* as Im one of those guys whom feel like driving a corolla or any other econosh!t box is equivalent to slowly and painfully killing your soul, so performance is a must for me and i finally landed in the debate between a 02 ls430 or 03/06 gs 430 / 460, and oh boy this channel and the videos are everything i wanted to as i was researching for my current purchase. Ive made up my mind, gs gang it is. Thank you for taking your time in compiling and presenting all the most valuable info.
I’m happy you found me then!! Plenty more 00’s Lexus content to come!
I have a GS430 too! Just shot a video on my exhaust mod. It’s pretty terrible but it’s my first 430 video😅
I have an AutoArt model of a second generation Lexus GS400 in silver. I kinda like the GS. A pretty roomy car, very luxurious and relatable, available V8. I would like to have one. My daily driver is a 2015 Toyota Camry XSE 4 cylinder, I like my car for the same reasons you like this GS. The seats and my car reasonably comfortable, I think my old 2004 Honda Odyssey with the leather interior had more softer seats, but my Camrys seats feel more comfortable than my brothers G35 seats.
10" subwoofer in back that kicks ass!!
That spot to the right of the CD changer in the glovebox is a spot to store extra 6-disc CD magazines. Or you can use it to store other miscellaneous stuff.
Also, these vehicles are picky when it comes to Knock sensor replacement. Do the job once with OEM Denso knock sensors. Aftermarket brands may trip the CEL after all that labor!
Blast from the past in the best way possible! Cars like this will never be made again unless we're talking some ultra expensive boutique, small volume car...that won't be as reliable brand new as a 24 year old GS..no joke. Love your car dude, anyone who buys one of these things in 2022 really knows cars and appreciated old school Japanese build quality and fanatical attention to detail. These old Japanese cars are full of fun little surprises..some you don't discover for years after purchase😅
Right! They really don’t make em like they used to
I like you! Subbed!!
Thank you!!
10:18 The only Lexus models with a handbrake are as far as I know the first generation IS and the second generation manual IS.
Hey Bern, what are your cameras and audio setup like please? They look and sound good!
Thanks! Sony A6300 and Rode Wireless Go!
I own an SC400, a 97 Celica, and a (still minty condition) 1991 Honda Civic. All three have throttle cables.
In the past, I also owned a 2004 Toyota Sienna.
I can say with all my heart: drive by wire throttles are straight garbage. It's the main reason I no longer have the Sienna, and decided to go back to the older models.
I absolutely agree!
nice video!
Thank you!
This is a good video you really know your stuff about it’s history! I always said the V8 GS is the best car ever made. The LS really is but it’s ugly so with that legendary engine and transmission it was meant to be. Where else can you get a v8 sedan that’s fun to drive and reliable that’s over 20 years old, yet still looks good compared to modern cars. Even after driving new cars in the 50k price range like the new GS I still enjoy getting back in my GS400 each time.
Thank you!
That Intro tho!
Hey Bern! does your 245 45 18 tires rub at all? And more importantly is it still a comfortable ride with that size tire set up?
i have a 1998 lexus GS was wondering because I plan on installing 18'S with same size tires, Soooon
Another excellent review of a car that I've always been interested in. We seem to have the same taste in cars, as I too prefer the GS and SC v8s over the i6s. I wish you'd have elaborated on the differences of the mechanical throttle vs the electronic. Wondering if you're speaking from personal experience?
Thank you! Mechanical throttle is just more reliable and more responsive in my experience!
Would you say the same thing if the I6 were the same engine as in the Supra, the 2JZ-GTE?
@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 Yes, because in this application, a luxurious sedan, the higher revving six cylinder motor from the Supra is perfect for its intended purposes. However, given the choice between the two in a four door luxury sedan, I'm choosing the V8 all day!
@@tony64t I absolutely get it, and for the luxury sedan experience I would also choose the V8!
this is awesome
