The Novus Ordo Mass is a holy sacrifice, a gift from God through the Holy Spirit. If your Catholic faith depends on avoiding a liturgy formulated and promulgated by an Ecumenical Council, how strong is your Catholic faith?
We are Catholic not despite of the Mass, but because of the Mass, as it is prayed around the world.
The Baroque Mass attracts some to the Faith, but its language, and the culture surrounding it, also alienates many others.
My personal view is that liturgical diversity is healthy, but that liturgical supremacy is dangerous and toxic.
      Glory be to God!

How delightful, Mr. Frad, to hear that a book by you was made into Braille. If I may, things can only be transcribed into Braille, not translated, as it is only a different writing system. Either way, good material is extremely hard to find here in South Africa, particularly anything Christian. People seem to think that we blind people all love ebooks. Of course, we do not; I particularly object to praying from them... Well, enough of that.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode for many reasons, but I’ll only name one in particular: this was not a typical guest. What do I mean by that?
As a listener of PWA for a few years, I’ve come to see a theme in guests: 1) religious, 2) professors, or 3) to a varying degree, Catholic apologists. There are exceptions to the rule.
A set of commonalities these type of guests we’ve seen share resides in their practiced: 1) manner of speaking (tone, phrasing, and rhythm), 2) use of a more calm body language, and 3) use of subtle, body language cues to engage the other person in conversation.
Professors are naturally the most practiced at these skills. Catholic apologists use these skills in their conference talks. Religious (priests or religious) are the most varied, but owing to the grace of the vocation and practiced ability to even out their temperament, they’re able to typically get by within most conversations.
Our guest today may have made many of us feel uncomfortable owing to his untrained manner of public speaking, as well as quick tempo. Our guest today raised to the conversation more varying topics in a short amount of time than most guests, which may have resulted in some of us feeling a bit scatter-brained. Our guest today is very smart but at the same time is still very young (22). With this comes a situation where we want to listen but at the same time are hesitant to really listen owing to our own biases.
Our guest today was like all of us when we were rapidly coming to know the truths of the Catholic faith. He is more like the young men in your parish who are on fire for the faith than you might think (at least in trad-world). I was a convert at 19. I understand this level of rapid enthusiasm accompanied with vivacious reading habits and a desire to say all the facts with their underlying connections before noticing the other person’s face! :)

Yes, please have him back to discuss this more! I'm curious if Catholics are unaware of how many people *do* lose their faith over the issue of evolution? I have known many people who learn macroevolution in school and it becomes a huge stumbling block to their faith. The idea that science and religion are incompatible is still widely believed, and maybe that's where the fear to open that can comes from, but I think his point is important. Science is not dogma, so why leave it there?

    • @gibbs9434

A bit of science separares from God. A lot of science leads closer to God (Louis Pasteur). Yes, young peuple should learn from Pasteur, Leibniz, Blaise Pascal, Descartes who were universal genius and Christian (mostly Catholics)

And so many people who argue, even yell out "Science!" have very little knowledge of the vastness, complexity and very inconclusive nature of scientific mysteries. The simplicity of 19th century Darwinism doesn't stand up to the computer like complexity of DNA (which Darwin knew nothing about) and with physics and astronomy, I tell my atheist friends that they can get back to me with their conclusions once we know what dark matter is or what's smaller than the smallest subatomic particle and how it works or if they can tell me what is in any of the other dimensions pointed to by string theory.

To clarify one point: the three children of Fatima were NOT told beforehand what kind of miracle would take place on October 13, 1917. They were merely told by Our Lady that she would perform a miracle, so that all might see it and believe in God. They came, they saw, they believed! I recommend the book 'Our Lady of Fatima' by American writer William T. Walsh, published in 1946, where he interviewed the still liviing parents of Sts. Francisco and Jacinta

I love how well informed he is on creationism - that truly Revelation is the lens and our guiding light for Reason her handmaid, that theology is the Queen of the sciences and that all things must be subordinated to it. Quite so often, evolutionism is treated as the super dogma that all things, even the Scriptures, must be subject to.

It was literally designed to erase God, and to seem wise to the world they’ve become fools.
You literally have to believe that while God could have created us in one instance, he instead took billions of years of pain, death and deformity of his creations to bring about “humans“ in the wounds of sub human primates. Thomas Merton, in the Seven Story Mountain, describes how the enemy attempts to obfuscate the greatest goods in a shroud of scandal. *Corruptio Optimi Pessima*. Merton explains, “Since evil is the defect of good, the lack of a good that ought to be there, and nothing positive in itself… it follows that the greatest evil is found where the highest good has been corrupted.”
Gideon in 1:27:39 seemed to be alluding to this idea. Matt’s rebuttal is clever in that, when discerning which “denomination” has the fullness the truth, merely claiming the presence of demonic oppression or attack amongst a particular faith denomination doesn’t necessarily equate to which faith has the fullness of the Truth. However, Gideon’s response here is beautiful in that he says “yeah I don’t think this is sort of the final proof of it, but I think that it’s a sign that points to it” Granted, Matt does continue to play Socrates here and Gideon continues defending and sharing the witness of his new found Catholic faith within reason… but I think that if you just slow down here for a second you can find a nugget of, if not mystical truth, wisdom. The wisdom that, the mere presence of the enemy engaging in a Spiritual Battle with an individual or entire faith, only goes to show that if evil lurks around every corner ready to deprive the good, a very real good that IS present in the object that “evil” is trying to strip of its goodness. Now if this is the order one finds themselves in a postlapsarian world, and there are varying degrees to which one is aligned to the truth, and the order of goodness is being fought both within man, and with a force outside of man; it follows that, the closer man gets to that truth, the more shocking it would be were one to be corrupted with it. Thats why God inspired James to warn those who wish to be teachers of the Church “Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, for you know that we who teach shall be judged with greater strictness.” James 3:1 “If I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.” 1 Cor 13:2
      God bless you and your ongoing witness to the faith. Stay yoked. Keep fighting the good fight (;
