Bummer, favorite place i l8ved in USA was in Narragansett the last block maybe 200 feet from the stairs down to the cliffs and the somewhat trail to the pier. My rent was a nere $1150 for a place i could hear the ocean, same exact place is now $2800 for that same shitty 1 bedroom, and that's why i left Cali. (Things kept going up, rights kept disappearing except for drug use, abd too many homeless ,especially San Francisco. And i thought Atlanta, GA was terrible for homelessness.
Turpentine Trees, the new best pier material. They worked for 100yrs on Catherine Hill Bay coal loading dock. Unfortunately we only have a limited amount of these amazing trees in Australia
Juno Pier in Florida was built a little higher up which makes sense. Concrete is better. Cocoa beach pier has wood pilings and they are now surrounded by concrete.
It seems they're critically endangered so I doubt any logging of them would be allowed now anyway. So probably not actually a viable choice due to that unfortunately.
OB july 1982 celebrated me 21st bday drinking 21 Heinekens in a bar I cant remember the name. They had a nice head shop back then too. And the cliffs, a nice spot for romance....ahh the OB memories .
Here this absolutely explains why man-made Surf breaks fail. I think aside from trolley cars there’s not much we can do to Jack the wave up. We gotta be patient and paddle as far as we need to go to catch the peak.
Nothing really. It's mostly a tourist attraction and you can fish from it. Some of the older piers used to serve steamships delivering cargo before the railroad reached the coast
Tourist attractions and a great family outing for those that live there. When I was young I'd fish off Santa Cruz and Capitola piers. As a teenager we'd spend our summer days at the beach and pier. Most of the piers have very successful restaurants on them.
what you should do is dismantle the pier and turn it into a surf park, do what we do and pump sand to make a super bank. and get barrels all year round. house prices will go up. skeg life. snapper rocks mafia
Im Triangle angel of God..there is a earthquake in the making off the coast of California..stay away from the coast lines off the coast of California..tsunami warning..
Mr Martinez is a cool fellow. Like his breakdown in laymans terms.
My favorite pier I miss going here .
I lived in O B. In the 70's to the 90's. Loved OB.
Can people still smoke pot out in public right in front of tge peer?? Or is that closed too.
So many memories on that pier ☺

Wow, look at that shape. Kinda reminds me of the imagined, pop amusement park, pier wave in Lords of Dogtown.
It's a rad pier. California's longest if I'm not mistaken

Worked on Voltaire.
Seems they could coat the pilons with a 1/4 of plastic to help seal the concrete and keep the saltwater from penetrating.
Looks like it’s rotting? So sad…

It really looks rough to begin with.
Sleeps with his fish. 🤣
What is the value of this pier? What purpose does it serve?

Higher, carbon-fiber pilings.

You're right about that!
People can surf anywhere.
58 years isn't much of a lifespan for that kind of installation. That stilt-like design is a loser for that location, obviously.
How is this not Trumps fault?
The peer was built over fifty years before Trump tried to become dictator.

Oh don't you worry- THEY'LL come up with a way to blame this on him too!
Orange Man Bad!!!

Naw, read your bible. 1619-2019 + 5 = how many years God jewels been held
Bill Clinton..."I like em' young"
Stop spending taxpayer money on frivolous climate schemes and fix the piers. No kid should be deprived the thrill of being on ocean piers.
Remove it...
This guy doesn't know what the hell he's talking about it's not only concrete on those pillars there is Metal in everyone
That's exactly what he said 🤣
