Wow, watching your adventure in Jakarta and trying out Bakso for the first time was so exciting! It's really impressive how you managed to communicate with the locals despite the language barrier. Shelbs, your negotiation skills for the fare were quite amusing, but it's great that you embraced the local transport experience even though it may have been a bit more expensive than taking a GRAB car. It adds so much meaning to your journey as a tourist. By the way, in Indonesia, a small transport vehicle similar to a tuk-tuk is commonly known as a "bajaj" or "becak." Keep exploring and sharing your wonderful experiences!

Bakso is ubiquitous in Indonesia just like nasi goreng, it's everywhere but you need to find one that suits your taste.
bakso that can be easily spotted everywhere are bakso Malang and bakso Solo.
Bakso is also very diverse regarding the broth profile, meatball texture, and types of noodles used. I once visited my friend's home, they are a Torajan, and they put nutmeg in the broth which is very bizarre for me at first but really loved it at the end.
I also once in Malang found a bakso that uses turmeric in the broth. these extreme variations exist depending on the cultural origin of the recipe, but really hard to find. the most common one is the one you've tried in the video.

So do I. I grew up in Kuningan and around Cirebon at West Java. I ate bakso with a noodle which called Soun (originated noodle from Cirebon). This kind of noodle is wider, softer, more transparant, more chewy and kinda easier absorbing the broth.
Then, I live in Jakarta to go to College and the noodle is used is so different. Mostly Jakarta's bakso/Central Java/Solo bakso is used Bihun noodle, made from rice flour or even corn flour which make it more more harder, rigid and dry. I don't like Bihun because it is harder and not absorb the broth well.. hhee.. but that's all about preferences. 😅

17:49 I believe the sauce you tried is made from sweet potato (Indonesian: ubi jalar) and chili. It's a typical sauce that is always available in every bakso seller. Not very healthy though because it uses artificial food coloring. Bakso broth is usually clear with salty flavor, so in order to enhance the flavor, we usually mix it up with some condiments like kecap manis (dark sweet soy sauce), sambal (chili paste), saus ubi pedas (chili-sweet potato sauce), saus tomat (tomato sauce), vinegar, and white pepper. Some sellers also provide a slice of lime if you like.

Bakso is a type of meat ball that is commonly found in Indonesian cuisine. Meatballs are generally made from a mixture of ground beef and tapioca flour, but there are also meatballs made from chicken, fish, shrimp, and even buffalo meat. In this presentation, the meatballs are generally served hot with a clear beef broth, mixed with noodles, rice noodles, bean sprouts, tofu, sometimes eggs, sprinkled with fried onions and celery.
The meatballs are very popular and can be found throughout Indonesia, from street vendor carts to restaurants. Different types of meatballs are now being offered in the form of frozen foods sold in supermarkets or shopping malls. Sliced meatballs can also be used as a complement to other foods such as fried noodles, fried rice, soup or cap cai.

little tips from me and it's general tips to apply to all food in Indonesia.
"Mix all food before you eat the dish, " but if you want to know the flavor of every condiment, you can taste little. Every condiment in the dish has a different taste, so... mixed well, and enjoy it. Welcome to Indonesia

wow..thank you for visiting Indonesia, in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. Meatballs are a food that is always available regardless of the time of day when you want to buy them and meatballs are suitable for eating in the rainy season or summer. In Indonesia, meatballs can be bought on the side of the road where the seller uses a wheelbarrow and goes around the place looking for buyers and there are also sellers who still mean to build a building to sell meatballs and write the name of the meatball stall as desired, such as the words ORIGINAL BAKSO BEEF "MAS KUMIS" so that buyers know. Before eating the meatballs, the buyer usually adds something to the meatballs, such as sweet soy sauce made from soybeans, tomato sauce, chili sauce, and salt if it doesn't taste salty enough and lastly don't forget to add orange or lemon juice. which is unique. For Indonesian traditional food, namely cakes, especially food or light snacks, there are many kinds and many variants.
