David Lui is a really good singer! If only he didn't lower the keys of his songs in his concerts then I'd place him on Jacky Cheung's level... (specifically in this case it's half a key lower than the original)
Well in terms of the sound of the voice, that's subjective, as I like both. But Jacky has definitely kept his voice in better condition for the past 30 years while David's has gotten a lot weaker over time. If you search up their most recent performances you will know what I am speaking of. I'm not sure if it's because of proper use of vocal technique, but that probably has something to do with it. So far, I have only seen Jacky lower the key of one of his songs throughout so many years of live performance, and that was only so he could do the soprano whistle in the beginning of the song (等你等到我心痛), as I assume a female had whistled that part since most men in the entire world cannot have such a high range. However, I can think up of a couple of times when David Lui had to change the key of his song because it was too high to sing (because of a G4 or an A4 that might make a song too difficult for a tired singer, notes that Jacky sings easily in every single of his performances and that are included in most of his best songs such as 离开以后, 分手总要在雨天, 愛是永恆, 只想一生跟你走, or 每天爱你多一些), not because of some special case. In his prime, David Lui was just as good as Jacky I think, as you can hear David singing a Bb4 in one of those TV shows where they raised the key of the chorus of a song progressively and made David sing it. It's just that David hasn't kept preserved his voice as well.
