  • Hey everyone, sorry this is so long. I even left out a lot of details.
    So this is a summary of the past two years of my experience since several doctors diagnosed me with GERD, Pantoprazole messed me up, then they undiagnosed me, then diagnosed me with hypersensitivity, and etc, etc, etc. It's a long and confusing experience and I think this video may be useful to some out there.
    I watched tons of youtube videos trying to find people with my symptoms and looking for advice, so I figured I would try it.
    Please comment and let me know if you have any questions. Sorry this is so long.

    I am going through the same exact thing as you. This has been happening to me for 3 going on 4 years now and I get no relief. Diet, PPI's, etc. does not work. My throat and upper stomach are inflamed, it's hard to swallow, metallic taste in the back of my mouth all the time, I burp a lot (even when drinking water) and get nausea. I've had 3 endoscopies, all see inflammation and mild gastritis and had the bravo done with one of the endoscopies and they noted like you normal acid production. Some spans of days I can tolerate it, but during a random "flare up" it can last multiple days and even a week where it's debilitating. I've tried pretty much everything and have no idea what to do next. Now my doctor want's to try a low dose SSRI thinking it could be esophageal hypersensitivity. I've read on Reddit that it seems GERD/Reflux symptoms seem to match this diagnosis but I'm not sure how that could be the case if I'm getting a strange metallic taste in the back of my throat and my upper stomach and throat are inflamed. I can't believe I found this video and everything you said hit very close to home because it's so similar to what I'm experiencing other than the voice issue.

    Oh wow. Can't offer any solutions that have worked for me unfortunately :( but just wanted to say that I can totally relate and commiserate w/ you in your struggles. I've been dealing with a mystery throat condition since like March or April of 2020. My symptoms aren't quite the same -- I don't have a bad taste in my mouth, and my voice is mostly normal, but I have an almost constant discomfort in my throat that feels like a burning kind of itch/irritation. Regardless of what I eat, how I sleep, it's always there, though it can vary from somewhat mild to really uncomfortable and distracting. Feels like I'm swallowing/tasting more mucus too. Lotta fun.
    Literally went through so many of the same steps as you -- looked at reddit, tried PPIs + H2 for a month, Gaviscon Advance for a couple weeks, gabapentin, allergies, diets. Did the endoscopy, barium swallow, 24 hour monitoring, swallow study, pepsin saliva test, everything. I've even had the giant google doc sheet of symptoms lol, though I haven't kept up with it in a while. Some tests have been borderline -- some esophagitis, gastritis, and one of the pepsin samples was positive. But nothing with big 'THIS IS THE ANSWER' sirens.
    Have been to several doctors, might try another endscopy soon. I've been prescribed anxiety meds and amitriptyline to try, but I'm almost scared to try them because I feel like they won't work either and it sucks to cross off another potential solution.
    I've been looking into other potential health concerns, since other health issues have cropped up as well, and I have no clue if they relate or not. But in any case, hang in there! I really, really hope we can find some relief soon.

    It sounds like this has been a frustrating time for you. I have had a similar problem with my throat since the end of 2018. It really began when I took Pantoprazole for 2 weeks then stopped. I got rebound acid hypersecretion (RAHS) which burnt my throat and the first indication was a cricopharyngeal spasm which freaked me out during holidays on a Greek island. I thought I was having an alergic reaciton and vomitted which burnt my throat more. What has followed for the last 4 years is a terrible condition known as Globus Pharyngeus, the sensation of a lump in my throat. I have good and bad days, it's on a scale of 1 to 10. For the first few months it was like 10/10. I ended up having to go back on Pantoprazole and take it twice a day now for 4 years. I guess it helps control the acid which causes the globus. I believe I have LPR, both LPR and globus need to be treated agressivly with PPI's, not standard once a day dosing. I think my throat has become hypersensitive now, even resting tight earphones around my neck makes me feel uncomfortable. Expresso coffee seems to sometimes make it worse and escalates my anxiety. I had pretty bad health anxiety before this but this globus made it 100x worse so I started mirtzapine whcih has been great but then made me fat lol. Anyway I have no cure yet but I manage it to have more good days than bad and most days its a 1/10 now. If my globus is bad, then my voice can get raspy. Globus I believe is caused by the UES spasming. I think my LES isn't tight enough so lets acid backflow up to my throat causing the UES to tighten in response to protect the airways.. Anyway I didn't watch all your video because it was too long but I wondered if your problem was also globus? 4 years of thinking about my throat every day seems to have made it more sensitive to everything now, it always feels a little sore or uncomfortable.

      I feel you, I have been struggling for years now. Don't drink coffee. take it very serious and avoid all spicy foods, sugars, alchohol citrus etc. this will only irritate your inflamed oesophagus more. My condition have just been getting worse year by year as I have just wrote in a comment to this video, and I eat perfectly clean and only drink water. this condition is a true nightmare, I hope you are doing better.

    • @DamianWright
      @DamianWright Před 5 dny

      @@TjoneNormall I made a big breakthrough that eating dark chocolate was causing my reflux. I found a paper showing that theobromine in the chocolate causes a 45% reduction in LES pressure for a sustained period, many hours. After giving up chocolate I had no globus for 9 days until I ate a fatty meal (also relaxes LES). I was then able to get off the PPI's over 6 months that I had been on for the last 6 years. Now I've been off the PPI for 3 months. I have a theory the PPI is causing some of the issues and waiting until 6 months pass for the stomach cells to reset. I still get globus but its 95% better and a lot of days without it. It's also possible because I had globus and persistent reflux for 6 years I have caused some damage.

    Hi Jordan, I came here from Reddit after reading your post and I have been massively struggling with "painful" and various throat issues for 13 months as of today. It is UNBEARABLE and the discomfort manifests itself in various forms "every single day" since last year. I haven't watched your video entirely, only watched the first 1/3 part through the middle which is really long, but I will watch. I just would like to ask, what are your EXACT throat symptoms and are they painful especially during swallowing your saliva? I had many tests and visited plenty of doctors and they could do nothing. My story is a bit long and confusing, so I just wondered your symptoms and your current throat situation. How are you doing now? Hope we sort it out. Best Regards.

    • @jordancooperlalala
      @jordancooperlalala  Před rokem

      I am better now, but a lot of that is mentally accepting things rather than constantly fighting my situation. My symptoms were all over the place and changed all the time. I guess the most common, and what still happens is like this slight burning feeling, the feeling when you wear out your voice as if you've been screaming all night at a concert, but obviously, that is not what I am doing. Just a sore throat feeling. I didn't have swallowing issues, and "pain" would only be the appropriate word once in a while, probably at the worst few months of my situation, it would actually be like "OW my throat HURTS." But normally just a kind of hot, burning, inflamed feeling.

    I have been struggling for many years with similar issues, but I Amin a much worse condition. I am 31 and can barely get through the day at this moment. It take me almost 3 hours to eat 1 meal, and I have to zip water with every bite, using close to 3 liters for 1 meal. I have almost no voice, I can speak with low volume for about 40-60 min. 1-2 per week. I am doing so much regarding diet and lifestyle. I don't get reflux anymore, but it is like I am damaging my throat and oesophagus more during the day by eating, and not healing enough during the night, my sleep is also horrible due to pain and muscle tensions. If every meal goes well for months it gets a little bit better, but if I accidentally swallow a small piece of food It gets me way worse, and the progress I made the last months are wasted. I am really scared for my life to be honest. I have done everything I could possibly do for the last years, and I just keep getting setbacks and getting nowhere. I am really starting to loose hope

      Yeah about the anxiety thing. I have been doing breath practices and Yoga and massage practices (see channel Liz Bills for the yoga video) but I have no idea if they help. In the moment they certainly feel like they are helping but only a short time later I'm back to how I was. So I just have no idea if they are worth doing or not. It's extremely confusing.
      I really don't want vaccine conspiracy talk on my channel, but out of respect I won't delete your comment. The vaccines don't stop someone from getting COVID but they reduce the symptoms by a huge amount for most people. The side effects of any vaccine are rare and can be bad, but they are not as bad or common as the effects of COVID, which can be debilitating or life threatening or long-lasting (I have a friend whose sense of taste is still affected several months later.) Are the vaccines perfect, I don't know, but they seem to have led to life getting back to normal for a lot of people so I'm appreciative. As for myself, my condition started a long time before the pandemic so I don't see how vaccines would have anything to do with anything here.
      I'm not interested in getting into a debate (even a friendly one) about this on my channel, as I am not an expert, and I think convincing people not to take the vaccine could be potentially dangerous, so I will not be replying again about this specific topic. But thanks for watching my video and commenting. I really do appreciate it.
