Making Bernie explain that he’s not an authoritarian because he is a democratic socialist is one of the most infuriating and depressing things I’ve ever seen. This country is SO ignorant, our education system is SO dysfunctional, and we have SO far to go... it’s tough to watch.

What people fail to realize is that socialism aims to expand democracy from the workplace to the government. People confuse authoritarianism and socialism due to intentional mislabelling throughout history. A socialist aims to empower people through healthcare and education so they can more fully participate in the democratic process and the economy.

They're attacking Bernie because his plan contributes $19T to the deficit, adding 30-35M uninsured. While someone like mayor Pete's reduced the defect by $0.5T and adds 20-30M uninsured. They're not lying when then say his policies require robust federal government spending where a moderate solution can be implemented to carry out the same initiative.

@Daniel Hostetler It went further than that. Look at how the questions were directed. Seemed to me that Bernie was being skipped a lot on questions where he could lean on his strong policy proposals, and was only allowed to chime in on the items that were controversial to him; and only then so that others could gang up on him; even if their attacks were based on strawman arguments. When he did try to answer a policy question, or pivot to his main policy points like single payer, other candidates instantly started trying to talk over him (mostly Buttigieg and Bloomberg) and the moderators just let it go.
The post debate coverage was ALL anti-Bernie. It was blatant. The clips they were showing, the interview they had, nearly all of it was going after Bernie.
Even more interesting when you also consider that CBS has been running negative articles on Bernie all week. I didn't even realize CBS had an online news site until all of the negative articles started popping up in my google news feed. Maybe I'm weird in thinking the debate host and moderators shouldn't be purposely working against a single candidate, and should treat them all fairly; or in thinking the pundits should discuss the entire debate, rather than targeting the one candidate that they clearly had a vendetta against before the debate even started.

Yo I’m Iranian and I’ve grown up anti-authoritarian and anti-theocratic and anti-mullah. But even I regularly volunteer a bit of info most people don’t know about Iranian sociology: it was the Islamic Republic that succeeded in dramatically increasing women’s literacy (the Shah tried for years and made little headway), paving the way for today’s reality where Iranian women have outnumbered their male counterparts in University attendance. You have to give credit where it’s due, particularly if you have strong personal feelings against someone. It helps you look like an honest broker rather than a zealot or demagogue.

So you can't really sum up all the "moderate" supports into one group and argue that it's more than the "progressive" support or vice versa.

The government is also encouraging entrepreneurship by providing a saftey net for those who start a business and there is few unnecessary regulations regarding running business while the wealth from the economy is being distributed equitably across the population by its advanced fair taxing system thus create a safer happier society which benefits both of entrepreneurs and workers.

@@HLJeter1966 He has.. many times. It's just not a short answer. So, if he responds to the question, someone will say it's not accurate, which is technically correct. You can't say 'medicare for all' will cost EXACTLY 800billion (or whatever) and then they come out with one study saying it'll cost 900billion so Bernie must be a liar! He's fucked either way, but he's LESS fucked if he doesn't answer.
There have been dozens of studies done, most of them say it will cost the same, or less, then our current Medicare system. A few say it might cost more, initially, but will save us money in the long run. Then, a handful say it'll definitely cost more, but Bernie is accounting for that possibility with the increase in taxes on the top 1%.
The reason it might seem crazy that we can cover everybody for LESS then what we currently pay to insure a portion of our country, is because that difference in cost is just the profits of the private insurance sector. They are grossly inflating prices, for no reason other than to maximize profit, and they keep getting away with it. We aren't sure 'exactly' how much we'll save, because we have to dig in and investigate how much they are overcharging.

Even if all citizens occupied all of the jobs that doesn’t change poverty or the lack of support cities are giving these areas. You’re just talking about racism or xenophobia. Sure cities won’t help black or Latino neighborhoods because they think they’re all undocumented immigrants. Yet you have areas with Russians or Chinese undocumented immigrants who live in the best areas and get the most support from their state, so what’s your logic there?
You basically said: I know you’re neighborhood looks like trash but it’s because these group of people are taking jobs not because the state isn’t investing on your area, the schools are receiving no money, health centers aren’t being funded to provide contraceptives or sex education, for non of the legitimate reasons your people might actually be suffering.

@@thekawaiikiing554 Oh that's not why Latino but especially black neighbourhoods are poor, that's just a barrier to upward mobility, they are poor because there's a failure of the ability to pool wealth and manpower from multiple family generations like you see in Russian and Chinese communities. This is mostly because of single parent homes caused by welfare laws leaving families to rely on the earning power of a single individual, this also affects the focus paid to the education and discipline of children leading to failing grades and crime. There are quite a few wealthy black and Latino neighbourhoods all over the country and the difference is always the intact families. Places like those and the Russian and Chinese neighbourhoods are not affected by undocumented immigrants because they can afford to hire them instead of competing with them making these neighbourhoods even wealthier.
