Tonight we take a look at different ways to be successful at starting and growing a farm including what I feel is the most profitable way to make money on your new farm.
Literally just got into farming sim on both Xbox and switch and your guides have been a godsend...never felt so lost in a game even on easy mode 😂.got yourself a new sub too 👍
Just a point if you are running low on funds doing the mowing run to start you can always lease the Bail Trailer for your first mowing and selling run and the buy it after getting the money.
Wasn't sure how to really start my farm out until I watch this video. Thank you Arthur for making a video bec I'm a noob at this game and want to get into it.
You do know that you can setup 17 to run just like 15 right? Everything from plowing to fertilization can easily be adjust in the menus to make it run just like 15. I don't usually talk about it because most people want more realistic play, but its there if you want it.
That's exactly why I love the vultra. The T series I use alot. I haven't used the S series yet only because the T series is big enough for what I need right now.
you dont need to plough when you are planting grass cos after you get the first cut it adds the 10% anyway and removes the red for it to be needed to be ploughed. also get a weeder to fertilize the grass cos you can use it after you mowed it and after the first growth stage to fully fertilize cos after you mow the grass it leaves a fertilization stage
Hey bud i just started watching yr vids. Really like yr vids. I sub also. I am hoping to start a channel soon. I am a big farm simulator fan. Finally got the game and man I cannot stop. I am around your age and never thought I would like this type of game but man I really do. So thx for the tute,I also watch a lot of other vids so keep up good work. Look forward to watching more. Peace
I discovered the goldmine directly east of the villa/farm you start out with on the expansion in the form of all those tall palm trees that require minimal trimming and the sawmill in close proximity. I cleared every single one out in that field ending at the dealership. Made at least $30k per Timber Runner load for a total well over $500k for some much needed cash. Screw using that crane-I just unstrap the load, unhitch the Timber Runner then knock the whole thing over in the unload box with my front loader. The Timber Runner even rights itself automatically when it empties!
Love the videos Arthur, I personally love using the included starting equipment and working my way up to better gear. You example on Goldcrest Valley of starting gear is a good path and I'd opt for the Valtra N Series, I agree it's epic value for money and I use that one for my animal areas for all work needed. Thanks for doing the Sosnovka map as it'll be the next map I play on. Cheers!
Not easy for newbs, but it's worth investing time and effort to install and learn how to use the GPS mod. It really helps minimise the time spent on contracting jobs.
Leasing can end up costing more money than you can make from your starting fields if you aren't careful though. I got myself inn a bind that way back when 17 first came out and had that feature. I basically got rid of all the starter equipment and leased a bunch of decent mid-range equipment and soon found the costs eating more money than I was making. Now I really don't lease anything and instead just buy what I can afford
You actually lost money doing what you did here. Just taking the loan would have put you in a better place. Keep everything you have, but sell the combine and header, crappy seeder and crappy cultivator. Buy a the seeder that Arthur recommended and buy a weeder. Also lease a bigger combine with a bigger header. The weeder will save you far more in fertilizer than you will save/make selling the original equipment. With the original 3 tractors, you can fully cycle all of your fields 3 times in 2 game days if you keep everything moving. Plant soybeans in all of your fields and sell at 1700-1800. Sell all of your crops that you have and stack up on soybeans for your first couple of harvests. Sell that and buy a bigger tipper, mower and liquid truck. Lease a bailer. Buy sheep. You are now self sufficient and can just make money every day and buy bigger and better things. The above process should take no more than 2-3 game days. I also never add to the loan and just pay it off over the first week or 2.
Arthur, love your videos. I always sell everything except 1 tractor. Then Lease logging equipment and spend weeks deforesting the map. My daughter calls me Agent Orange…
Just got this game and there’s a lot to farming! I don’t even know what machine does what and then when I figure it out, I forget what does what by the time I go to hook up again and do what I need to do. Unreal. Lots of fun though
K. J. Wiggums Hello mate,I was just wondering if you are happy with the graffics on xbox one and is it close to pc quality? I'm not sure if x box is the way to go or if I need to buy an expensive gaming Pc. Thanks.
Golden Reward the graphics are excellent on the XBOX One. I habe it for both as I don't always feel like sitting at a desk to play and while I have a higher end PC so I play it maxed, the XBOX One really doesn't look much different. Unless you compare them side by side visually you'd have a challenge finding a difference.
Finally was able to get FS (chose 17 over 19 because it seemed to be something I didn't want to miss!) and I've been binging your videos as I play. Would you say your choices and selections here still hold up in 2019? Thank you for such awesome tutorials! I would be lost without you!
Hi Nady - 19 is actually very different - I am still figuring out the best "start your farm" setup. There are many new things that you must do in 19, like weeding and lime, that make the beginning equipment very different.
My hardest challenge is how to get all the equipment needed for a no-bale cow farm, and enough cows to turn a profit without going broke. Your advice makes sense now, cows are endgame content lol.
i disagree, a mower, a forage harvester, and a water tank and the small field to grow grass actually kicks up revenue fast. then you can ad to that a green house for daily revenue along with the milk. - in addition to that you get the manure and the slurry tanker and you don't need to worry about spending for fertilizer on your small starting fields - you don't need all the equipment to get started on dairy- maybe wait a couple weeks before buying the mixer - you take out the 300k and buy cows with it and just two pays off the daily interest in milk
I was thinking the cheapskate approach to selling the bales. You grab a bale with the wrapper, drive over to the barn while it wraps, then unload the wrapped bale into the barn - maybe shunt the bale into the barn by ramming it with the tractor if you miss the unload point. Sure it takes a bit longer (maybe), but it saves the cost of a mechanical pick up trailer. Then add a chainsaw and trailer (or keep the starter trailer), and chop up trees while you wait for the grass to grow!!
Most people I've watched start by harvesting the fields they own, but on the default settings the fields are unplowed and unfertlised so you don't really get much. I always start a new map (without seasons) by setting fertliser to 1 stage and turning off ploughing required, then I fertilise all the fields i can harvest, *THEN* I harvest them and get a much bigger yield than if I'd just harvested them. Once the crops are in I set fertiliser and plowing back to the normal settings for playing forward.
ceegnz even on hard u start with 15,000 u can buy a plow for 13,000 and u can also take out some loan money so yeah it's basically cheating how the game is intended to be played the option toggles are there for people who want to switch back to the old system and not so u can flick the option at will but it's ur game u play how u like to play as long as ur having fun that's all that matters
arthur, with domesticated grass in a field, you want to get a weeder and a fertilizer, as with domesticated grass (grass in a field as opposed to "wild" grass) fertilization state DOES AFFECT YIELD. NOTE: this applies ONLY to DOMESTICATED GRASS, it DOES NOT apply to wild grass, thus you want to keep that fertilization state maxed out at all times to get max yield.
Sure, but you don't have to have it at the outset. But you are correct - you do eventually need to fertilize grass, and a weeder is the best way to do it.
Great video. I was wondering what was different with this version. So I got a question..I noticed when I harvested my wheat there were still rooted plants left behind. Do I need to replant everything or just fertilize it to make it grow again?
I’ve just started play farming sim and this vid was AWESOME! I’m wanting to switch over to 19 but can’t find a video advising on the best way to start and with what crop. Do you have one for that?? 👍
Best crop is silage bales lol, but the best actual crop for just growing regular crops is Canola. Here is my FS19 playlist - you will find a separate tutorial for each new game mode czcams.com/play/PLHOIp7_VO933rgcNllE8w8brxqACMVSZh.html
Arthur Chapman haha yeah I guess silage bales don’t grow on trees 😂🤦♂️. Is silage still an easy/profitable way to start out before branching into new crops in FS19 or would you suggest running straight into canola?
dude I've done exactly what u said in the video and it's worked pretty well for me, thank you! I'm now trying different maps and approaches of my own to see how I do but wouldn't be able to do without ur help, thanks a lot it's so fluid now I know what I am doing. I an trying to find the barn to sell the bales in the "de terra italic" map, but cant find it do you know?
Some maps don't have a bale sell point Try loading them into the processor at the BGA instead. they you will get free slurry (digestate) and can use that as fertilizer.
What would you upgrade there with the extra money, if anything, (from the items you've chosen 10:30) if you had to pick one or two things? I'm talking about the roughly $70-80k total, the 30ish you currently have plus the extra 40k or w/e if you had sold the starting grains. Thanks in advance for your time. I just got this today. Been watching a lot of your vids, trying not to fail on day one. 🚜
For some reason your comment went into spam, so I just found it and rescued it. I would say that you could get the 38k weeder because it will give you "free" fertilization for one of your 3 stages. I would also pickup a flatbed trailer (the 12k bale trailer is perfect) so that you can transport seed and fertilizer back to the farm easily.
I just started playing fs17 and I was wondering if when I use the harvester and I make it spray everywhere is that fertilizing the field or am I better off making bales
The forage harvester is the best lawn mower. Equip the X Disc header and mow multiple lanes at once, while simultaneously collecting it in a massive trailer. No fancy windrowers, balers, or collecting wagons required. Just buy a forage harvester, the appropriate header, and a large tipper. If you want to make hay really quickly, dump your full trailer onto the ground and run over the pile with a tedder. You can equip a different header to "vacuum" up the grass on the ground back into a trailer. Regardless of how much you spend on premium mowing equipment, you will never beat the forage harvester for productivity, because you don't have to come back after you're done mowing to pick up the grass left on the ground. I also highly recommend this setup if you intend to get serious with raising cattle.
While I agree that it makes a great mower there is one problem - there is no way to make hay as it sucks the grass up, so you still have to have regular mowers and a Tedder.
Ok I did everything you said but once it was ready to harvest the wheat or whatever looked really grayish and whenever I tried to harvest it wouldn’t do it.
OH! you waited to long. You need to harvest it when its brown. If its gray, its dead. Always check your map for the growth status. On the pause map, when a field goes from green (growing) to yellow (ready), its time to harvest. If you leave it too long it will decay and die. I need to make some more basic tutorials on the farming mechanics.
I went to get digestate in biogas area, it didn’t fill the tank. It won’t show any fill option key R, I tried adjusting the tank, I saw one of your video. Any idea how to get it working. Tank i hauled Is empty
Some maps do include a shop already included, but yeah. If you want to keep it real you will need to either change the tires at the store or get a workshop. Probably can't afford it at the start though.
Hey Arthur quick question that’s probably a dumb one but what are the steps to start your fields? Cultivate, sow, harvest? In which order is it supposed to go? Thanks in advance.
You got it - for the game, the first thing is to plow (only needed once every 3 crop), then cultivate, then sew. Some cultivators plow too (subsoilers) so you can get both done in one pass, and some seeders (Like the vaderstadt wheat planter) cultivate as they seed, so you get both passes done in pass. That is why I recommended the vaderstadt as the seeder that you buy. Its a 2 in one.
You will actually make WAY more money selling silage wrapped bales because regular silage drops in value VERY quickly as you sell it, but the bales don't lose their value, ie you will always get like $3000 per bale.
Do you hafta activate every single mod you have at the beginning of each game? In fs 15 I have hundreds of mods. I can see where this might be a drag. I may reconsider buying fs 17.
no, it remembers the mods you have chosen once you save the game. Say you have 4 mods selected out of 20. The next time you start the game those 4 will already be selected. If you don't want to add anymore, you just click "next" and ignore it.
so I sell everything in the beginning and get the equipment to plant and get grass, then I sell everything again later on to buy the equipament to plant other stuff ? or do I keep the grass equipament and gradually buy the equipament to plant other stuff ? thanks a lot for the help bro
Oh, definitely keep the grass equipment!!! Not only can you continue making money selling silage bales BUT you will also be using it to feed your cows and sheep.
@@Vbluguitar dude, you've been a huge help thanks a lot! I chose to fertilize just once and I wonder if I should fertilize right after I plow or after I cultivate/seed with this equipament u recomenteded.
A small tip for maps such as Sosnovka, American Outback, and other maps with grass lands if you want to do hay or silage bales you can and probably should plow to create fields their first. You will already have the plow rented and a seeder to replant grass. However if it is grass on an actual field you can fertilize it for the extra yield. This way you can also get a couple free fields, and with some of the grass lands on American Outback and Who Dat Who Der Ranch that are a decent size you can get quite a few free fields.
Yep, and if you no longer need it or want grass, cultivate and there you have a field. Then it only needs to be fertilized twice when doing 3 stages, and a weeder works for the first time it grows after mowing. I am currently playing on Who Dat Who Der Ranch and I turned a few of the fenced in grass lands into grass fields for hay bales, but I wasn't a fan of the sell point for the bales on the map so now I converted them into rather decent sized fields and it cost me nothing.
Im totally new and considering trying the game out, but is this advice in the video also good for simulator 19 as i consider buying that one offcourse.
@@Vbluguitar I've just spend 3 hours selling the collector loads of grass for £2.4k each, like £10 a field thinking I was smart 😭😭 shouldda listened to you 😂
I'll show it when I get to the FS17 career mode in my sim series -- but that will have to wait a while because I'm following a fixed storyline and right now my character is doing something completely different (specifically, learning to fly a plane). Or I can describe it to you if you want.
Arthur, i just bought a new PC, full gaming mode lol, so i had to re-download FS 17 and lost everything. I can't for the life of me get mods to go on the game... i have tried everything i know, extrat all, no extraction. maps and such .... any ideas please ???? Love all your videos!
take a look at your UAC (user account control) it MIGHT be blocking it. WIN 10 UAC can be REALLY paranoid and buggy at times. while you are at it, check your antivirus and see if permissions are in place for the game, your antivirus might be blocking stuff also
When I was watching this video I realize that I had a mod tractor called the 800 favorit so I bought that it has more horsepower for a cheaper price but otherwise I did the exact same thing and also Arthur you forgot to get a harvester
I kept the old harvester because new Harvesters are too expensive when starting up. The Fendt 800 is a great mod, but I do these videos specifically for beginners who aren't doing mods yet. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the video :)
The Lely's don't hook together. Only the 2 pottingers. You have to watch, because the pottinger dual mower can hook up 2 different ways to the tractor, but only one way to the front mower. if it doesn't work, turn it around and try again.
Literally just got into farming sim on both Xbox and switch and your guides have been a godsend...never felt so lost in a game even on easy mode 😂.got yourself a new sub too 👍

Arthur Chapman is that all? After buying the weeder and the trailer I have almost 35K.
Hey Arthur,
Quick question: Are you having trouble with A.I. worker pathing with the mowing/windrower combo?
I have never actually used AI to mow or rake, I just do it by hand, What are they doing wrong?
I actually prefer the Same with 190hp over the Valtra with 185hp...also don't forget you can sell off the storage sheds and vehicle shelter as well
I do love the Same - its awesome. But it does have a higher maint cost daily.
I just started playing fs17 and I was wondering if when I use the harvester and I make it spray everywhere is that fertilizing the field or am I better off making bales
In the game the spray does not count as fertilizer without a mod - so definitely bales.
@@Vbluguitar Once you've filled up the trailer, dump it on the ground and then run over the pile with a tedder. Nothing makes hay faster.
I need to make some more basic tutorials on the farming mechanics.
just bought the game, i am a noob in this.. following your tuts. thanks
My Pleasure!
I went to get digestate in biogas area, it didn’t fill the tank. It won’t show any fill option key R, I tried adjusting the tank, I saw one of your video. Any idea how to get it working. Tank i hauled Is empty
you would need the workshop placable to change valtra tires from standard to narrow you need narrow tires to fertilize (if you want to be realistic)
Some maps do include a shop already included, but yeah. If you want to keep it real you will need to either change the tires at the store or get a workshop. Probably can't afford it at the start though.
You are best Arthur chapman
Wow! Thank you, glad you enjoy the content!
I just put it on easy then change it to hard sittings
Would I have to buy a steering wheel for my pc for this game or can I use the arrow keys?
It works fine with arrow keys, or even better, an Xbox, PS4, or Steam Controller.
I have laptop with
Intel core i5
8 GB RAM
Intel hd graphic (1696mb)
Can run farming simulator 17 on settings??
nice video bro
Hey Arthur quick question that’s probably a dumb one but what are the steps to start your fields? Cultivate, sow, harvest? In which order is it supposed to go? Thanks in advance.
You got it - for the game, the first thing is to plow (only needed once every 3 crop), then cultivate, then sew. Some cultivators plow too (subsoilers) so you can get both done in one pass, and some seeders (Like the vaderstadt wheat planter) cultivate as they seed, so you get both passes done in pass. That is why I recommended the vaderstadt as the seeder that you buy. Its a 2 in one.
wet if you had the seasons mod
f@@Vbluguitar
I'm gonna try with the grass and sell silage till I get enough money to buy other fields to start on crops. What do you think?
You will actually make WAY more money selling silage wrapped bales because regular silage drops in value VERY quickly as you sell it, but the bales don't lose their value, ie you will always get like $3000 per bale.
Arthur Chapman on easy or normal?
Btw don’t mess with the Kuhn plow go with the salford plow, it’s cheaper and has the same width
Drew Schultz ah, but the Sanford is not reversible, so you will end up having to do laps- if you want to play it realistically anyway.
Thanks! That would have been a bother otherwise. Mods are what make the game!
so I sell everything in the beginning and get the equipment to plant and get grass, then I sell everything again later on to buy the equipament to plant other stuff ? or do I keep the grass equipament and gradually buy the equipament to plant other stuff ?
thanks a lot for the help bro
Oh, definitely keep the grass equipment!!! Not only can you continue making money selling silage bales BUT you will also be using it to feed your cows and sheep.
@@Vbluguitar dude, you've been a huge help thanks a lot! I chose to fertilize just once and I wonder if I should fertilize right after I plow or after I cultivate/seed with this equipament u recomenteded.
Farming simulator is a great game, you do have to put in a lot of time in to the game to get the hang of it i have put in a good few hours myself lol
Its a lot of fun. I am hooked for life most likely :)
pickup trucks are something that I like, even though gameplay-wise they might be useless
In Farming Sim 22 they have become much more useful to deliver small pallets and small equipment.
I don't watch these for the tutorial I watch them because I like watching Arthur
haha Thank Gaming Nerfer
Aye was a good cartoon that
Nerfern i ken aye :)
Having a hard time connecting both mowers on the front. Help?
Make sure you have the double mower on forwards, not backwards. If it won't connect, grab it from the other end.
Arthur...when you went to second map then came back to first map, you started over selling equipment. Did I miss something or did you mean to do that?
Yes, I did it on both maps to show you that the income is different per map, at least I think that is why I did it ;P
Good point, Once you plow and reseed you can get better yield out of "preexisting" grass fields.
Oh, I almost forgot that mowing counts as a fert pass.
Im totally new and considering trying the game out, but is this advice in the video also good for simulator 19 as i consider buying that one offcourse.
lol, sadly, it doesn't - 19 has 3 VERY different scenarios to start with, so a lot of this video doesn't apply
I will be making a matching tutorial for 19 soon. Keep your eyes peeled.
Arthur Chapman Damn i was almost ready doing this xD Well im just gonna mess around till then i guess.
Is there a follow up video after this showing how to use the equipment (complete noob)
Yessir - Here you go - czcams.com/video/h56_KZ1dvjM/video.html and part 2 - czcams.com/video/PjhT8t8d8dk/video.html
Do you have to wrap the grass bales to sell them or no? :)
You really wan't to wrap them - they are worth 4x more.
@@Vbluguitar I've just spend 3 hours selling the collector loads of grass for £2.4k each, like £10 a field thinking I was smart 😭😭 shouldda listened to you 😂
How did you change your time to 1?
Are you talking about the time fast forward? Its a mod for PC - drive.google.com/open?id=1MTzOjWZcOrBq9xegOHi8CuadkF0x0wMb
Oh yeah! I want to play offline just too get the hang of it!! Is there anyway we can play split screen?
Sadly its only 1 player per console/pc
Arthur and Simone Chapman 😭😭😭😩😩 just my luck!!
Do I need to fertilise the grass?.
If its pre planted (like in the woods or in the park area) then no. If you plant it as a crop, then yes.
I did a test and bailing grass, wrap it and sell it at bio gas plant for £5,008 a bail.
Wheat produce more but cost more
New sub
Thanks George and Amanda!
Would you believe I have a strategy for starting the farm WITHOUT taking out ANY loans and with keeping the stock equipment?
Sure - Let her rip!
I'll show it when I get to the FS17 career mode in my sim series -- but that will have to wait a while because I'm following a fixed storyline and right now my character is doing something completely different (specifically, learning to fly a plane). Or I can describe it to you if you want.
can u make a vid of the equipment uses in part 1
like a basic "how to farm" video? I would be glad too.
Yes. Ollie
How do you choose your farm land
Dog cov huose car farm
Arthur, i just bought a new PC, full gaming mode lol, so i had to re-download FS 17 and lost everything. I can't for the life of me get mods to go on the game... i have tried everything i know, extrat all, no extraction. maps and such .... any ideas please ???? Love all your videos!
William Tessier try restarting your pc and the game.
take a look at your UAC (user account control) it MIGHT be blocking it.
I just started FS 17 and I've spent 2 days trying to connect the 2 Potting and Lely together without any luck thus forth
The Lely's don't hook together. Only the 2 pottingers. You have to watch, because the pottinger dual mower can hook up 2 different ways to the tractor, but only one way to the front mower. if it doesn't work, turn it around and try again.
Thanks, got them hooked together now and thank you for the info and keep up the great work on the videos.
You dident make the trackter have a front loader on the second russian map
