Thank you for being so passionate towards addiction. I'm 6 months sober from fentanyl. Never in a million years did I ever think I'd fall victim. I'm 37 years old, never really used drugs, I've played around with psychedelics and weed but that's it. People be careful, I stupidly tried it once, tried it twice, next thing I knew it was becoming a daily until I truly live st everything. 😢😢😢 I'm 6 months sober today and fighting to get my life back, but I lost my partner of 15 years because of my choices. I did unforgivable things and he isn't able to forgive me.

As a former addict and current substance abuse counselor our system is so broken sometimes it will take me days or even a week to find a bed for someone. We need more resources desperately to combat addiction. Most clients have a mental health disorder combined with SUD (substance use disorder) it’s very common to have co occurring diagnoses.

Much compassion for it and wanting to help just made you so much more relatable….i suffered badly from addiction to opiates from the age of 25 to 30. Became sober got married had 3 kids then relapsed went to a rehab and am back on track. Thankfully my husband forgave me and my kids are young so didn’t know what was going on. Addiction is hard and horrid and can touch anyone

Sure… but heroin and fent are definitely harder than pills which is what I think he’s talking about. Pills can definitely be a gateway to H and fent because eventually people cannot afford the pills anymore. They tend to cost a lot more than H or fent. Plus as your tolerance goes up the more pills you need. H and fent is stronger than the pills
I was an addict myself who started with oxy then oxymorphone then h then fent.

Until society recognizes and learns about the mental health aspect behind addiction and crime - things will continue to get worse.
I’ve noticed lately that the same group of people that fight for mental health to be taken seriously when speaking about gun control, drug control etc, are the same people who say mental health isn’t an excuse for shootings, addiction, homelessness etc.
There is a clear connection and so many people fail to see it. They’re too busy passing judgment on the individual and the specific crime committed vs the WHY behind it, learning the root cause and taking PREVENTATIVE ACTION. If the majority of people incarcerated were sentenced to therapy and mental health supports - I’m positive there would be an adequate enough change for the better.
That being said, I recognize not everyone is capable to change, even with all the supports necessary. However, the percentage of people who would actually change and get better is far greater than those who would stay stuck in their ways.

Compared to heroin and fent, they’re not. Which is why he probably says that. Plus, pills are a gateway to H and fent for many many people. They were for me. To me pills weren’t a big deal, but I couldn’t imagine doing H. Then one day the pills were too expensive and I couldn’t afford enough to cover my tolerance so I switched to H. Then later fent. So, I get why he said it that way.

He’s from Mississippi. What do people expect? People who are from the “southern states” struggle with drug abuse for a lot of reasons. I know people everywhere struggle, but opioid addiction is horrible in those specific “southern states.” It’s something that’s not talked about enough. That’s just my opinion though.
People from around these areas all know a, “pill head.” It may be due to ignorance or lack of good income jobs. Know one really knows. 🤷🏻♀️
