    About the album:
    An unblinking look at an entertainment-obsessed society, Amused to Death addresses issues that have only grown in complexity and urgency over the past two decades. In 2015, television is just one option in an endless array of distractions available to us anytime, anywhere, courtesy of our laptops, tablets and smartphones. With eyes glued to our screens, the dilemmas and injustices of the real world can easily recede from view.
    The 2015 editions of Amused to Death feature a new 5.1 surround remix of the album on high-definition Blu-ray audio and a new remastered stereo mix completed by longtime Roger Waters / Pink Floyd collaborator and co-producer, James Guthrie. The cover and gatefold art has been updated for 2015 by Sean Evans, the creative director of Waters' 2010-2013 "The Wall Live" tour and movie.

      Dark Side is good, and the good thing about Dark side is you can listen to it for pleasure on variousl levels. Amused to Death is a concept album like the Wall, and frankly you really can't listen to it 'for pleasure'. Its like a Tolstoy or Dickens novel, 'enjoyment' is almost secondary to it being simply a literary and musical creation that is 'important'. The only thing I can compare it to is Les Miserables, the musical. Its the kind of album where i suspect Dave Gilmour listened to it and went "fuck, how can he write BETTER lyrics that he used to".

    • @earlbrackett6742
      @earlbrackett6742 Před 9 lety +17

      Ulysses M. Animals is the most neglected album in the Pink Floyd canon, and it's hardly been mentioned by the band other than Dave's remark..."oh, i like it, i like a lot !"...why you ask ?..'cuz he smokes on that album and the live shows were their best since '71...this should definitely be a "Classic Albums" candidate...and an Immersion box as Ulysses states.

    • @jsvkia1
      @jsvkia1 Před 9 lety +3

    • @benscheidegger122
      @benscheidegger122 Před 9 lety +4

      Earl Brackett No no no. Meddle is way more neglected. Atom Heart Mother Got way more success when Meddle was even admitted by the band a way better album. It really started their true progressive sound that transformed to Obscured By Clouds, and then the Dark Side of the Moon.

    • @BenCulture
      @BenCulture Před 9 lety +4

      Ulysses M. _Animals_ is to Pink Floyd what _The Empire Strikes Back_ is to Star Wars.

    • @BenCulture
      @BenCulture Před 9 lety +6

      Earl Brackett _Animals_ was a long and painful birth for the band. Roger had to re-write his lyrics to "Dogs" and "Sheep", and they had to re-learn "Dogs" in a lower key so they could sing it better.
      Probably, Gilmour doesn't promote it much because he only has one co-writing credit ("Dogs") and had composed _that_ even before _Wish You Were Here,_ so he really had nothing new to contribute, just awesome solos and singing. And it's a matter of record that Roger hated the _Animals_ tour. But in spite of all that, it's their very best album.

    It sounds like this re-release will actually sound noticeably different. Which is great, because usually an updated re-release only sounds louder. The CDs to Roger's studio albums are way too quiet; _Pros and Cons_ and _KAOS_ need remastering and re-release, too. Never mind vinyl; even the cassette versions sound better than the CDs.

    • @BenCulture
      @BenCulture Před 9 lety +1

      ***** No, I have to max out the volume to appreciate the CDs at all, and it's still not really loud enough. I really don't listen to Roger's studio albums as often, because the CDs are so much weaker than the LPs were. If they were Pink Floyd albums, they'd have been remastered at least four times by now.

    • @n3bruce
      @n3bruce Před 2 lety

      I can only appreciate this album at home. The quiet passages get drowned out when listening in my last 2 cars, even though they were some of the quietest cars you could get. I think Roger was trying to take advantage of the full dynamic range a CD could offer, I kind of give him credit for bowing out of the Loudness Wars that have led to everything sounding "Squeezed to Death" these days, but still a modest remix to bring up the volume a bit would help.

  • @SpinfueleMag
    @SpinfueleMag Před 9 lety +5

    One of the most brilliant artists of our time. For me it was always John Lennon and Roger Waters. But... Roger Waters has to be one of the most musically unambitious or most agonizingly perfectionist artists alive today. I still listen to KAOS and Amused at least once a month, can you imagine the music that might have been, out of this man's heart and mind? I wonder if his new album will ever really be released, or will he tinker with it and have it go out posthumously? I'm 61 Roger, we don't have a lot of time left.

    Amusing ourselves to death by Neil Postman is in my opinion one of the greatest books created: “What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egotism.
    Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumble puppy.
    As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists, who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny, “failed to take into account man’s almost infinite appetite for distractions.”
    In 1984, people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure. In short, Orwell feared that what we fear will ruin us. Huxley feared that our desire will ruin us.”

    I Can't wait for Amused To Death (2015) to come out. I was so excited for the new Pink Floyd album recently. And they really really let me down. I hope Roger can save the day. I love the concept.

    The most Aladeen Album by Roger Waters,Jeff Beck and Bozio rocked this right out there. Awesome album and so with the times, it's 23 or 24 years since first release this album! Fucking brilliant.

    why don't they just plan on releasing 5.1 remixes of all Waters solo material...Pros & Cons is brilliant and is a no-brainer in the 5.1 mix category. I was lucky enough to see the tour...the Alien Prophet got it right on those 2 albums...Final Cut ? wtf isn't that in a surround format ? that's a crime !!

    Yes, there was a definite difference when listen on a turntable. What amazes me is that NOW, November 2020, Roger Waters is more relevant than ever. He is masterful in his lyrics and his music. Oh my God, I miss our high end speakers, turntable and amplifier. When my husband died in 2017, my daughter unforgivably gave our stereo system to a charity. I hope the fuck someone that ended up with it enjoyed it as much as my husband and I did. Our speakers could vibrate every piece of crystal in the cabinet, two rooms away. LoL
