  • #oconalufteeindianvillage #cherokeeindianreservation #cherokeenc ** NEW RELEASE DUE TO COPYRIGHT CLAIM OF PREVIOUS MUSIC USED IN VIDEO ** On our recent trip to Deep Creek NC, we took a day trip to Cherokee, NC. I've wanted to visit the Oconaluftee Indian Village for some time. The visit was extra special and Joan and I were able to experience the tours, sites and sounds with our daughter Julie, son-in-law Josh and the grand kids. The guided tour, village and drama seen on this video did not disappoint. Everyone working in the village were super, took extra time with the grandkids to answer all those "special questions", available for pictures and were very all were so kind and friendly. As a history buff and with Joan's Cherokee ancestry, we absorbed the details of Cherokee life from the 1700's forward.

Great video Jerry. My Mother was from Hendersonville, NC about an hour or so South of Cherokee. She was Cherokee Indian desent of the "Sam's" Family.

Thanks so much Eric. I know Hendersonville well. I worked all through western North Carolina from Weaverville to the Tennessee boarder in the mid 80’s. One of my favorite places. I always thought when God made the Earth, he took a little extra time and patted out the North Carolina mountains by hand. Joan’s great grandmother was a Smith, a full blooded Cherokee. Most of Joan’s family looks they just stepped out of the Nation.

It’s interesting that she referred to the violent extraction from their land as “The removal.”

Thanks Tim. Great tour and they shared a ton of information. In a few weeks, I’ll also have some video of a recent tour of the Cherokee Museum. Very interesting place.

My brother had one of those blow darts I don't know if he still has it or not but it was really cool.

This guy was amazing. Hard to tell with the camera shot, but his target was about 100 feet away and he was popping the bulls eye every time.

I wonder if she said the name of the man who was making the arrow heads? He looks familiar.

We drove over from Bryson City at Smoky Mountain Campground. Kids and grand kids came up. They enjoy tubing down Deep Creek.

Did you like the campground always looking for new places to stay. We stay at the Flaming Arrow Campground in Whittier it’s small but it nice and quiet. We stayed at KOA last summer it’s was loud all the time.

Nothing special about the campground itself. Kids like going there to tube Deep Creek out of Smoky Mountain National Park. The creek goes to the back of where we camped. The campground is 50 yards from the Park entrance. The campground is a little tight, the road isn’t big rig friendly, you’ll need to be at your best. Also check out Deep Creek Tube Center and Campground. Hard to get into during holidays. Larger lots, plus you don’t have that wicked curve to deal with that’s a little further up West Deep Creek Rd.

The calendar isn’t showing dates yet. In the past the village is open from late Spring through October.
