- Even with little hope of making an impact against the Germans, the fight for freedom continued. Polish Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto rose up in the face of the horrors of the Nazi Concentration Camps, German army units were needed to deal with the situation. The French Resistance was formed, and with the Dambuster Raids attacking the Industrial Ruhr, the Allied progress although was slow but sure.

Greetings from Poland, I live only 30 km from the former Auschwitz Birkenau camp, which the Germans established in the Polish city of Oświęcim and the neighboring village of Brzezinka. For the purposes of the camp, the Germans also established sub-camps in other neighboring towns of Oświęcim. For example in the nearby town of Rajsko or Monowice. The Nazis also used a coal mine in Brzeszcze for the purposes of the camp.

Elie Wiesel's 'Night' is mandatory reading at age 10. Schindlers List is mandatory watching at age 13. And I tell them that this is the true cost of complacency and the banality of evil. I will not hide the truth from my children so when they face these realizations as an adult, it won't be such a shock as to what human beings, all human beings, are capable of.

Hey, I remember that book from school. I'm 31 turning 32 on the 20th. I remember him and his dad running with bare feet in the snow with SS troops or something being moved to another camp. I've always gotten 100% when it came to War history, my Great Grandfather was a mechanic in the Canadian Military in WWII.

I am a first generation american. My Dad, granma, and great-grandmother somehow got out of poland in 1940. They were catholics. I always thought you could be any race and be jewish? I thought it was a religon? I still dont undrstand why it all happened exactly. I wish i knew more about their story. I do believe trama is inherited because i find this subject to fascinate me, and i seem to feel deeply for all the victims. Im just glad im alive. It could have gone very differently. All generations should be taught in school about every aspect of why and how this happened. Maybe people wouldn't be having such crazy thoughts and actions. My god, help us.
