“Living Culture of Three Writing Systems of the Georgian Alphabet” - Dr. Lela Tsikhelashvili’s public lecture
The new element from Georgia “Living Culture of Three Writing Systems of the Georgian Alphabet” was added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO at the 11th session which took place in Addis Ababa, from November 28 to December 2, 2016.
The evolution of Georgia’s written language has produced three alphabets - Mrgvlovani, Nuskhuri and Mkhedruli - which all remain in use today. Mrgvlovani was the first alphabet from which Nuskhuri was derived and then Mkhedruli. The alphabets co-exist thanks to their different cultural and social functions, reflecting an aspect of the diversity and identity of Georgia.
Dr. Lela Tsikhelashvili, Associate Professor of the Institute of the Georgian Language at Faculty of Humanities (Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Tbilisi, Georgia) gave a public lecture dedicated to this fact in January 18, 2017 at University of Tartu (Estonia).

Dr. Lela Tsikhelashvili taught me “Old Georgian Language” at Tbilisi State University. She is a very high-level professional and our group was lucky to become students of Dr. Tsikhelashvili. Herewith I have to say that the “Old Georgian Language” course was very interesting, but also one of the three most difficult disciplines for our groups.
