- We talked to my mom about what it was like when Anjali came out, meeting Sufi for the first time, how she talks to conservative family members, and more!
Anjali's mom is an Indian immigrant living in the US, with extended family in India and Canada. Note that her advice to kids coming out to their parents is based on her experience when Anjali came out. If you live in a country or home where it may be unsafe to come out, remember that it's okay to wait to come out when it's more safe to do so.

I’m really late but please Tell your mom thank you so much. Even tho she’s not my mom just the way she presented herself and talked about LGBTQ and how caring and accepting she was really helped with my anxiety in coping with the fact that I am as well and that even tho we have hateful people that there’s still good wholesome human beings like your mom out there and that it’s not so scary coming out. Wow your mom is seriously a goddess! It's literally impossible to focus on anything but her beauty, she's one of the most stunning woman I've ever seen. But what makes this even more amazing is that she's got brains to back up that beauty, she's such an amazingly intelligent woman! She's well spoken, articulate, non judgemental, & so wise. But no yeah, I was so taken aback at how chill her mom was. As a WOC, I'm stressed as hell at the prospect of my entire family and community knowing about my sexuality. I'd be cool with just a few knowing, though I know they wouldn't be 100% comfortable or supportive, but everyone? Nope. Couldn't do it.
