I just found this video when searching for more detail on the HF R600 - I had to laugh when I saw the road trip since I grew up the Phoenix valley and have been on that road and recognized everything! I purchased the R600 a couple of weeks ago and have been using it to capture vocal auditions for students applying for college and have found the image to be great. Using 5000k daylight lamps in the indoors really helps though.
I run audio through Protools so I can close-mic the performance but the internal stereo mics make a great scratch track to sync to though I usually mute it in the end. Just tested a AudioTechnica wireless lapel mic with the mic input tonight and it works great so I'll find a way to use that too.

audio is just as important as video on a camcorder. I have no idea why so many camcorder reviews have horrible music dubbed over...
Because the microphone of this cameras Suck... I did footage test quality, not sound quality.....
i just purchased this camera. i noticed a humming sound in the back ground. is this normal for the camera? I am using it to shoot beauty videos, so the setting is quiet. i did get another mic to plug in to it. do you think that will solve the problem?
+SilentDiablo nope. I ended up returning and repurchasing a new one. I had to fiddle around with the mic levels. Also I had to switch to the headphone mode when I actually used headphones to listen to playback. I wasn't doing that at first so it was vibrating my brain listening to it that way.
