April 8, 2020 | Bob Boilen -- "Welcome to the quarantine shed!" King Princess exclaims. She's in jogging pants and sitting on a fluffy white chair, with two guitars, an amp and a tiny keyboard at her side. "I'm in Hawaii and brought as much gear in the carry-on of my plane ride as possible."
The flashy performer was set to open for The Strokes, embark on three South American festival dates for Lollapalooza and go on a European tour with Harry Styles. But now, she says, "I'm back to just making music in my room." King Princess plays three songs from her late 2019 album, Cheap Queen, in ways I never would have imagined.

I've seen King Princess perform live 3 times before and this is very different, but it's nice to see her chilled out and vibing to her songs. I like to think this is how she is when she's songwriting.
I now understand why my youngest child likes King Princess. I want to go to a live concert 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👀

I saw her live last July in the Calgary Stampede, and I have whiplash watching this. Her energy is so different... Here she is so quiet and calm, but in concert she is WILD. SO MUCH FUN.

Tiny Desk is like Netflix. You have to sort through some okay stuff but every once in awhile you find an artist who steals your attention. Then you find that they have a huge collection on Spotify and you're binging everything they've put out. I'll be busy listening to King Princess for the next week or so until I tire out her album. Wishing she had more...
This was lovely in many ways. I just wish NPR's excellent sound engineers could have worked their magic remotely.
