If knife fans would be honest, there are very few of us that really need to carry a large blade. Smaller traditional pocket knives will meet the daily needs of almost all of us. My traditionals are a lot like my children - I don’t have a favorite, and love them all equally. I will often stand at my knife drawer and spend 5 minutes picking up different knives trying to decide which one I want to carry for the day!
I always carry a small traditional in my left pocket, and a larger folder clipped in my right pocket. The traditional is my backup for splinters and such
That is a very nice collection. I have a few Rough Rider knives, and I can't find anything wrong with them. I use them a lot and if I loose one in the hay-field, it won't be the end of the world.I have a few vintage knives I picked up in junk shops also, they are good knives.
I LOVE the profile of the cheap knife you showed with the wood handle and no markings. I wish I could find one :)
Thanks Paddy for stepping up to the plate and increasing your production to keep us all entertained in these difficult times! (And all the other knife channel guys)can never get
enough traditional knife vids !
I'm happy to see so many likes on this video Paddy! Great job in introducing some of your viewers that may not be inclined to "pick up a few" inexpensive traditionals, the joys of carrying/using them as a secondary option. Your passion was contagious.
Of course you know I would enjoy everything on that table (well, except that cool TEW quill pen, Since I have carried & used one just like it on & off for the past year & a half, such a joy to use)
My smooth natural bone Brother finally made it to the states! I should get to enjoy that one soon😁
YTB🍀😊👍
I just got into modern traditionals. Always been into my fidgety button locks but there's something about these slip joints that I can't stop obsessing over. Great vid
Heartwarming little vid paddy, I love your passion for these fine tools.
Really liked the video. Liked seeing the Buck and hearing you still have it and use it.
Hello. A table full of beauty but usable beauty. Real pocket jewelery. All the best.
Its hard to beat the beauty and elegance of a good traditional knife!!
Interesting seeing you here lol !!
I have been picking up Rough Ryder, Case, and Victorinox knives over the last few months. I will start collecting higher end knives now that I know what I like.
Sometimes it takes years before you know what knives you really like.
I love traditional knife videos, thanks.
I have RR congres with abelony. And I absolutely love it!
I'm not a knife collector or anything, but just want to say that while I do my work at home, I put your videos on. It's kind of comforting and relaxing. Be safe man. Jerry in NY.
Thanks Jerry appreciate your support and kind words. Look after yourself and your family. Atb paddy 👍☘️😃
@@paddyspotatopeelers2154 What kind of grind is on Rough Rider knives?
Awesome video Paddy. Beautiful little collection of slippies. Us in the knife community seem to forget that many generations before us didn’t have the luxury of one handed opening/closing, locking knives made of titanium, carbon fiber, G10, etc. What they had were two handed slippies with just basic steel and they got by just fine because they simply worked. And people back then relied on their knives for a whole lot more than opening up mail or cutting a string. They needed them to do things that were absolutely essential for their livelihood and sometimes, their life. We get caught up in the latest greatest framelock flippers, which are great, but we often confuse need with want. I like carrying a traditional as my own kinda personal ode to tradition and history. Traditionals have been around a long long time because they are great tools and because of that they’ll continue to be made and used for many generations to come. Ok, imma hop off my soapbox now. Haha. Thanks for the thought provoking video Paddy. Stay safe brother. 👍🤘
Thanks for the support and comment, I can only agree with and hope that even one new young reviewer gets one and then shares his journey with us. Atb paddy 👍☘️😃
@@paddyspotatopeelers2154 i think alot of us younger guys carry traditionals. Ive carried knives since the 90s almost all traditional patterns. Ive got some modern knives but they just dont have the same feeling or history. To me they are boring. Im sick of tacticool!!!
Your not weird i carry 3 or 4 knives or more every day. I just ordered both of the R.R small brass lock backs monday.
Excellent point Matthew. My view is simply this. If a Barlow was good enough for George Washington; if it was good enough for Abraham Lincoln (although he died with a Congress in his pocket), and good enough for the (fictional) Tom Sawyer, it is good enough for me.
Incidentally, there is a lovely story about Lincoln's Barlow. The story he told was this (and may be, as Dickens would put it, a bit of a 'stretcher.'). His story goes as follows. One day, as a young man, he was walking down the road when he was suddenly stopped by a pedestrian coming the other way.
"Sir," said the passerby, "I simply have to give you something."
"Why so?" said Lincoln.
"Well, my village presented me with this Barlow knife" said the passing stranger. "They said that it was my prize for being the ugliest man in the village. But they said that if I was ever to meet anybody as plum ugly as me, or better still, even uglier, that I was to present him with this knife. So I would like you to have this prized Barlow of mine."
"Well that's mighty kind of you sir," said Abraham Lincoln, graciously accepting the gift of the knife.
Of course, it might also explain why I have so many Barlow knives.
@@southerncomfort7490 Haha. Well I’ve never heard that one. Very cool. Thanks for sharing brother. 👍🤘
The Otter knife and the Buck 55 are on the top end of what i consider to be budget knives. And you throw all these beautiful knives in a black draw :)I like budget knives in 12c27 steel. My Brother 1508 is on it's way.
Traditionals and saks are so addictive useful. Often easy to sharpen as they dont have rock hard steels often...nice video mate
So true Paddy so true. Thanks for showing us some great traditionals.
Thanks Paddy, I know its an older post, but the sentiment rings true. All collectors should see this video. There are far too many knife snobs .. generally f&f doesn't affect a knifes usability.. cheers!
Love my little carbon Rough Rider Cannoe. Goes everywhere with me.. 🍀👍
Such a passionate video, love that ! I've been looking into traditionals more and more. So thanks for sharing and stay safe 👍😊
Rough Rider's traditionals allow me to get a knife or two, and not bust my budget.
I carry a traditional everyday alongside my modern folder. It's my "clean" knife I use for food processing and for certain hygienic purposes that I don't want to use my main, "dirty" work knife for. It's been an opinel lately, before that a victorinox. Might go with my buck canoe soon.
Love to see the old stuff. Lately I've been focusing on the vintage folders, pre- WW2. No safe queens back then, those guys beat on their knives. Most of them have condition issues, but I love the history , so many companies, patterns, and blade configurations ! Grummash's knife looks like a trapper, btw.
You must have really big pockets for all those EDC. Love your channel.
Sat here in the sunshine with a PM2 in my pocket,, think I'll go and get a "traditional" out, just "because",,, lol,,,
Keep "em coming,, Paddy,,
All the very best my friend,,,
PS,, Heinnie Haynes, have been my " go to " seller, for many years,, absolutely faultless,,
Loved this video paddy it's me all over ,and your not wired 😉 ✋
Those are beautiful, inexpensive knives are some of the best! I don’t buy China jackknifes I buy used USA models and clean them up and use EDC. Good video sir! New subscriber 👍🏻✌🏻
Keep them coming paddy
Delightful. Thank you!
Wonderful! I enjoyed everry word.
Great video Paddy. I think I might have to break out my 3 traditional knives and do a one myself. That 4 bladed whittler with the mother of pearl sure looked nice. Take care stay safe buddy.
I have a few that I think you will like. They are some awesome modern/traditional hybrids. Check out the civivi rustic gent and twosuns ts132 and ts252
I started collecting knives a few years ago with Ka-Bar and Victorinox for my emergency kits. Buck knives just for collecting. A bunch of Bushcraft knives. Then Ganzo and Kubey and finally with Rough Ryder and Frost. Downhill all the way price wise.
But the only ones I play around with are the Rough Ryders. I bought about 50 this year from a seller on Amazon in the USA from Canada and they all came with fingerprints on the blades. So I assume he checks them first because only one had a weak back spring. All the others were really nice. I got almost the whole stagbone collection and some others. I emailed SMKW and next day they sent out a new one to me here in Canada. However I have enough knives for now. Going to stop, except for the three in the mail. I bought many RR's at once before this government changes it's import laws again. Spyderco PM2 and similar knives are illegal to import for individuals.
However I carry only one knife out of about 200 that I have. A Gerber Swagger half serrated. It's my first knife and I will never change. I'm a 70+ year old cyclist summer/winter so serrations are needed to cut plastic ties etc when carrying loads. I spent 40+ years doing carpentry and wood working and never used a pocket knife only disposable Xacto blades. No time to sharpen knives. Rush business.
I love that anchor one and the boker Howsen the bucks don't do allot for me. Oh and I got my great grampa slip joint and my grampas fixed blade that's over 100 years old.
What about Swiss Army knives?
Ow Paddy Paddy Paddy! That's a table full of eyecandy! 😍
That black buckshot Rough Rider is nice. I've got my eye on the 2.5" version. Amazon has them for $15.
All nice blades 👍🏻
When Case are on their A game, they are spectacular, but their B game comes out all to often. I love my traditionals but they are a bit addictive! I’ve over 100 now. With these it’s not the fidgit factor, but the fondle factor!
Lol I hear you 🤣🤣👍☘️😃
That ag Russell is gorgeous
Man, that boker is beautiful. Good luck for me finding one.😣
So many people want fancy, tactical, "designer" EDC's, when a good "Old Fashioned" pocket knife is a fraction of the price and has been tried and tested for decades if not centuries from schoolboys to vicars, in the late 1960's as a schoolboy I took a pocket-knife / pen-knife to school to sharpen pencils, and the teachers accepted it, happy days and not a snivelling WOKE in sight.
You need a modern fast knife for sure for self defense, but I carry a case xx pocket knife for every day use 3 blades small sturdy construction.
I only carry traditional folders now!
Welcome to the madhouse. 😆🤣
You should review the Benchmade mini bug out.
You should try the manly wasp paddy s90v slip joint for an absolute bargain on heinnie and all
I love them all, Paddy! Have you any Swiss Army Knives yet? I’ve got a few that I love. Not exactly works of art, but incredibly practical & inexpensive. Non-locking, too.
Enjoy that tea! Nambarrie still?
I just feel here in the UK its a bit more justified to carry a traditional knife like a case or SAK with the fear of knife crime. I've carried a pocket knife for over 15 years never been stopped or searched by the police but when am out in public and need to use my knife to do a task (which is mostly opening kids toys ha) I feel people would be less scared of a little read knife or traditional looking knife then a one handed opening spyderco I have a few UKPK and one handed none locking knives but I feel more comfortable pulling out a little case it doesn't really get heads turning and if someone does see it they don't seem shocked or have that look of fear in there eyes lol thats just me tho
Patty you are no wired for carrying more than one. I myself carry about 5 ...LOL
I'm the opposite. I only love traditional knifes for the same reason I love traditional buildings. They have a soul and beauty modern ugly plastics can never match.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your boker howser isn't UK legal because of the stud on the blade?
Where do you get those little clip on thumb studs?
Hiennie Haynes mate. Atb paddy 👍☘️😃
Hey paddy after your done doing a review....... don’t you hate putting all the knives away!!!!!!
No I don't keep boxes, just in drawers. Lol. Lazy man. Lol atb paddy 👍☘️😃
i see some of your knives have an add on thumb stud. do you have a link for those? thanks
www.heinnie.com/kwik-thumb-stud
thank you sir!
I've yet to carry a slip joint since my age was >13, but, I have, well, several. I, too, like to just take them out from time to time, open, admire and wipe them down. My father carried one of two slip joints every day. He had a daily "work" knife (eventually with half a scale broken off) and a "Sunday" model and he was completely happy. He's rolling in his grave at the number I have...and never carry. Oh well.
0 views and 2 likes already paddy lol
How come you guys can't have lock blades? I can't understand. if you plan to hurt somebody with the knife you could do the same amount of damage with a slip joint as a lock blade.
Hi Paddy. Great stuff, as always.
Do forgive my ignorance here, but what is the 'Shook'/ 'Shuck'? Is it the Atlantic Ocean? The Irish Sea,.... or just a term for 'sea' generally. I would be very grateful if you could enlighten me.
PS: Love the Buck. Just a great little knife.
From a creek to an ocean,its a shuck.lol😜👍☘
@@paddyspotatopeelers2154 Ahhh, thanks Paddy. Ignorance ended.
Keep those knives coming. Love to see some Case trappers or muskrats.
