  • There are a lot of great restaurants on Oahu. But what if you are traveling with small kids? Where do you eat? In this video, I want to recommend five family-friendly places to eat that I think are great for families with kids. These restaurants may not offer the tastiest foods, but I think they all have very convenient characteristics that some may find important: easy parking, a good variety of food for picky kids, reasonably affordable food, and more than one location. As a dad-to-be, these are places that I'm looking forward to going as a family. However, I'm also looking forward to seeing how these recommendations change over time.

Hey dude! Love your videos. It’s helped me learn that no matter where you live, a place is just a place. It all has its own difficulties and awesome things about it. But it’s not as fantasized as the world has made it out to be. Love your vids keep it up. Cheers

Great videio - spot on! OMG the Liliha Bakery Loco Moco!
You ever try Los Chapparos? Best Mexican food on island, IMHO.

I haven't tried that place. I heard it's hard to find good Mexican food on Oahu. A good Mexican restaurant would probably do really well here.

Hey man, is Buzz's Steak and Lobster House still there? The Jazz Cellar? The Rock Clinic? Red Lion Spaghetti Inn? Perry's Smorgasbord? International Market Place? ...lol... When I was there, Jet Ski's were in their infant stage. There used to be this rock on Waikiki beach in the water that was out about fifty yards and every morning this old man would get to the beach before anybody else and he would stand on that rock and he looked like he was standing on the surface of the water. You rekindled a shit load of memories I thought I forgot for good. ...lol... that was the best time to be 21. ...lol... Oh yeah, VD was a big problem there. I wonder how bad it is now.

We've been losing a lot of local restaurants lately. International Marketplace is so different now. Mostly luxury stores. Totally different from the random kiosks with a interesting things.

@@HelloFromHawaii We used to have a favorite Mexican restaurant in the International Marketplace. We didn't look for it when we were there last month, but I'm sure it's gone.

The best advice that I can give you is to NOT give your kids crappy food like mac and cheese and chicken strips right from the start. Kids will like and eat whatever they are given from an early age. They can't "only want" those unhealthy, processed foods if they don't know that they exist. Feed your kids right from the start and you won't end up with "picky" eaters. True food aversions is very rare and people confuse picky with an actual medical issue. I grew up with Eastern European parents and we ate whatever Mom put in front of us. I raised my kids the same way and they will eat almost everything and are willing to try new foods. They also grew up extremely healthy. Diet makes a huge difference in a child's physical and mental well being. Thanks for your videos.

Thanks for the advice. We've been slowly introducing food to my son. Trying to serve healthy foods.

My kids like Zippy's and Goma Tei. Goma Tei has a good amount of space between tables to accommodate highchairs. Order extra noodles, it goes a long way if sharing with kids.

Our granddaughter, who is now 9, loves Japanese (or Korean) BBQ restaurants where you cook your own food at the table. BTW the best breakfast we found on North Shore ended up being McDonalds, scrambled eggs, rice, Portuguese Sausage and Spam. I'm sure there is better, but we didn't find it in the five days we were on North Shore.

The breakfast meal at McDonald's is a local favorite. They tailored the menu for locals. Hard to compete with that price and convenience.

Zippy's is my favorite restaurant. Not always the best quality food, but it's open late and has a good variety.
