I think you mean she shouldn't have had to. His parents shouldn't have lied to him in the first place. Or, figured it out himself. Dogs don't usually live to be in their late 20s. The oldest dog on record was 28, but it was a smaller dog and they generally live longer. And that's the very oldest. Most die younger.
