As terrible as the wheels are mate those thick tyres are a firm defence against the ever present potholes
This goes on any longer we'll all be running tractors
you can switch the rolling air vents off in the settings..although what kind of madman would want to do that...its just so cool..practically sold the car to me when I test drove it
That first XF interior was more of a show-stopper than the one that followed it.
@@tcaudiobooks737 Yes I've got a 2010 V6 and I wouldn't trade it for a facelift, even with those much nicer front lights.
They really cut costs on the interior and it shows.
If you use a vent mounted phone holder you don’t want them closing
@@EricManktelow I had a 2015 Supercharged V6 (Petrol), and the interior was first-rate. Heated and cooled seats, full leather dash - and that incredible supercharged engine! Loved it; sorry I traded it in.
First thing I did was turn off the rolling air vents: One less thing to break.
However, I never had any problems with the car.
Best model
Another top video.
We visited your garage yesterday and purchased your white yaris for my son’s first car! He loves it! I’ve made him subscribe to your channel 😂
Ah very good. Thank you for your custom
He paid £200 for it 😂
Did he massively overspend on it ?
@@ianrobinson68 no, but I'm sure as hell the headlamps got a buff....
Matt, I once bought a car with no sign of cam belt in the logbook, although it should have been done. Called the service centre who serviced it around the due mileage and he confirmed it had been done and sent me the paperwork. Good guy.
Same here
Nothing like a low spec car where someone has selected all the options, get smaller wheels but the nice luxuries you want.
yeah, not gonna lie, that black paint and thick tyres actually make it look subtler than other jaguars
Big wheels look stupid
Wheels not tyres I mean.
I prefer smaller wheels on luxurious cars. They ride smoother
I bought a 3 litre diesel in 2010 as an (early) retirement present to myself. Probably the best car I ever owned - fast enough and surprisingly economical. Only sold it as I didn't use it enough - replaced it with an '89 Mercedes 300SL.........
'89 300sl interesting 🤔🧐
I had the 3 litre diesel too. Was a great car for the four years I owned it.
Needed a new cambelt and was beginning to rust so got rid.
I bought a 2010 3-liter diesel XF with 330,000 kilometers on it, and besides the brake discs at the front, she drives like a dream. I've already driven 15,000 kilometers in her.
Lucky man xx 😮
Come back if you can make 25,000 km with out egr valve DPF problems
@@danielcoganmanzanas3676 I had one for 3 years and put 46k on it. Never once had an EGR or DPF issue. All depends how you drive them. If you do a lot of town driving then you’ll get problems. If you ever do get the red DPF warning just take it down a dual carriageway and lock it into 2nd gear and keep the revs up so the DPF gets nice and hot. One of the causes of DPF issues is people switching off the car when it’s mid cycle on a regen. The other potential issue is diesel dilution in the oil. Jaguar injects fuel on the exhaust stroke to increase the exhaust temperature to aid the cleaning process. Keep an eye on your oil level and if you see it going up or starting to smell of fuel, get an oil change as quickly as possible. If necessary, drain as much as you need to prevent it being over full.
@@danielcoganmanzanas3676 Im back in like two months xD
@@danielcoganmanzanas3676well that’s because you’re not running it correctly if you don’t take a diesel for a good run and service it probably that’s the reason why.
My local Hermes courier has driven a 2.2 XF for as long as I can remember (3 years). He runs it on a shoestring budget. It's covered in bumps, scrapes & muck, but it's reliable & keeps passing MOT's after 300k miles.
Good cars.
I had a 15-plate sports brake version. Got it after repeated inspiration from watching this channel. Cost me £10k, over the 2 years I had it cost me 4k with things going wrong and repairs. I can sadly also say I massively overspent :(
Was it cheap or something? That sounds a bit insane
Which engine ?
Blimey
I've had my honda civic 6 years ,bought it when it was 4
So it's obviously ten years old now
And in 6 years
It's had a annual service
Tyres and brake pads
And that's it
Sailed through 6 mots
And drives like a dream
Bought a 3l V6 petrol XF last week, absolutely love it
Literally.
Why would it not be literal?
In this particular car: because v6 diesels are prone to crank shaft failure while r4 2.2 diesel by psa is simply bulletproof
@@przemeklewandowski7476what year is the r4 2.2 diesel XF?
@@kbrar5957 facelift - 2011 onward
Got a tic tack, 20p piece And a wood screw - you are winning - this IS A meme
The 2.2d is the best engine to have. By far most reliable. Same engine as is freelander 2
3l are capable of over 200k if properly serviced.
My XF 3.0 2009 is now at 185000 miles. I’ve had it from new, it’s never failed me, it’s serviced annually and other than usual service items, tyres brakes etc I’ve hardly spent anything on it. It’s a pleasure to drive and usually returns 40+ mpg on general trips. It’s now worth bug*er all, so I’ll just keep it until one day it seriously fails me. Or maybe I’ll call Matt if I see something that excites me as a better proposition so far nothing has.
Same experience as me, put over 100k on mine and all it needed was regular maintenance, and LOTS of rear tyres 😂 best modern car I’ve owned
Keep an eye on the subframes and sills and it'll keep you right. Lovely cars. Wish I never traded mine in for the new XF x260.
My all time favourite car, the Jaguar XF. They're fantastic.
*Looks out the window at my 2010 3.0l 176k and whispers "don't listen to him you are beautiful"
😂
Brilliant!
I started watching this channel from the Jag XF reviews. And it's still my favourite review to watch. 😎
As my son in law found out to his cost, there is no such thing as a cheap Jaguar. The repair bills and parts bills were eye watering.
laying back with my dinner after work on a friday watching i bought a cheap …. doesn’t get much better than that, loving the videos mate keep it up
My all time favourite car, the Jaguar XF! Love it)
When Matt talked about the door handles, I remember looking at at black Audi A3 for my wife. It was pretty nice, but the door handles looked as if Edward Scissorhands was the previous owner.
Strangely I’ve got the same car & same nail marks
Jaguars are not all unreliable, I owned a facelift 2012 XF, 3.0D S, which I had from 2 years old until last year when a lorry driver reversed into it and wrote it off! It never let me down over the 120k miles, just regular maintenance and a couple of front wheel bearings, absolutely fantastic car. Went through tyres like nobody’s business though!!
Underrated cars, I've had two over the years albeit in 3.0d form.
The rotating vents can be set to 'always open' in the Climate menu.
The person who spec's it new ticked the heated seats box which is rare on a Luxury, the 17" wheels mean it rides properly on our pothole ridden roads!
The sticky buttons can be rectified with the correct product and a little time ;)
Cheers,
Chris
The only new car I ever bought with my own money was a 2013 3.0d premium luxury driven out the showroom on the 1st September 2013. I got a mega deal as I had bought a 2009 XF second hand which was a dog so they sorted me out as they say. I ran it in for a month before driving it to Stuttgart for Octoberfest , maxing it out on the Autobahn, and took it around the Nurburgring on the way back. Needles to say I loved it but ultimately had to sell it to finance going self employed. Needless to say they are almost my favourite car , almost because I now own a 1968 Mk2 which is my all time favourite. Apologies for the self indulgent comment but this bought back very happy memories !
Well done Steve keep up the great work and happy driving fella
Thanks Matt, kept me entertained whilst eating my lasagne tea 👍
Amazing car for the money, even though it was parked in bay 13. I first thought that sign on the grass verge said "Please park Matt's "I've massively overspent" vehicles here.
There are companies out there that make a very good living just rebuilding those 3 litre V6 diesels. The list of faults that cause catastrophic engine failure on those things is very long indeed! The 2.2 is the better choice. It might be gruff, but its solid.
Nothing wrong with the 3L if it's serviced property. The 2.2 just doesn't look or sound right with one exhaust.
@@johnwb40They have a very well documented problem with crankshaft failure, either spun bearings or the crankshaft actually snapping. No amount of proper servicing can prevent that. Not to mention the myriad turbo, EGR and oil cooler issues. Ask any mechanic and they'll tell you to avoid that engine.
I do agree about the single exhaust looking wrong, but I'd still pick the 2.2 over the 3L any day of the week.
@@AWMJoeyjoejoe What about the petrol engines, any good?
@@1maico1From what I can find online they have timing chain and water pump issues, but I don't think they're as bad as the Diesels. Honestly though any used Jag is going to be a gamble. 🤷
Thanks for the video. Looks like a great option for your colleague looking for an all but disposable car with great comfort in the meantime.
I’m proud of you exhibiting self control. I expected you to come back saying you’ve massively overspent!
Nice Jag, great vid mate.
I was looking at the 3.0D Portfolio version of this, but ended up with the pre-facelift XFR. I put a low offer on an auction and bloody won it 😅 my sensible side lost out to my only live once side
Nice job Matt , money back and a happy employee , win /win 😊
another great video. Changing those plates really changes the car :)
Matt & self control equals a result! Good video showing the true value that can be found in these old Jags.😎😊
I still can't understand why people sell cars looking like that. The mini valet for £15.00 would easily give a 10:1 return every day of the week. Why do people sell vehicles looking like that?
Hi Matt
I run a 2008 2.7 D Lux premium in Ireland. Paid €5000 last August
230,000 klm. Green ,light interior. Every extra. It amazes me every time I drive it. Passed our Nct test last month with no issues. Live in Poland now and drive 2016 Jeep Grand cherokee there. Sold my BMW 6 GT 3.0.D before moving.
It is amazing but the new plates do lift it. Just done mine and it made a huge difference! Nice vid, Matt. Thanks 😀
I like that you hooked up your buddy thats awesome. I love these cars especially the facelift
Keep dropping these think-out-loud narration videos Matt!
Super useful in the arena of car-buying and money management for the most of us!! 👌🏽🌟💫
Mat your optimism and outlook is to be applauded keep smiling 😂😂
You sound keeps dropping out Mat,great car I love these
Love this episode Matt. Smoothly exposing how one can get into a gorgeously designed British luxury car for similar money to the simplest Tuc-Tuc from the otherwise low-end junk out there 😉 (which is well covered).
I love the Facelift XF. very snazzy and you can look rich for cheap!
Love the interior wood trim, great engine and good run around for somebofy with a really good spec.
Great video and worm as alway Matt! :D
I remember first seeing the pre-facelift with the less angry eyes in 2009 on top gear and was really impressed
The base spec was quite well specified - electric leather seats were standard. Most noticeable omission was the lack of an auto dimming rear view mirror 😂
Matt I’m triggered with that missing chrome piece off the front! Did you forget. You never mentioned it again. That would drive me insane. I’d either pull the other side off or order the part. I love the xf. The seats are so comfy. Quirky things like the gear disc that rises and the air vents. Proper cool. Also looks really smart. I’m sure they are rear wheel drive as well aren’t they?? Great vid 👏👏
No views yet, I got you Matt, keep up the good work👍🏾
Hi matt what a lot of car for little money and that engine was also put in the transit and mondeo looks great after your magic I would definitely get that chrome corner bit put on which I think will finish it off great video hope you are well best wishes ian.
NPL - I would assume is 'Number Plate Light'.....Nice car for the money, glad you found a good home for it.
You really love Jaguar 💯
Great video HPA, nice car, love your sarcasm matt😂, always a pleasure to watch 😀👍👌
Love these cars,❤ the look quality from any angle definitely good looker
Great job 👏
I bought a brand new 2015 2.2 diesel R-Sport Black edition, the 200bhp version in Italian Racing Red. Swallows Jaguar did a mild remap which improved the MPG by about 4 and the BHP by about 30. It also vastly improved the single turbo driving experience. It drove like a sports car. Brilliant handling and properly pokey. I once took it from Cardiff to Spa Francorchamps and back over a long weekend for the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix and averaged 50 mph and 50 mpg. And that included three hours of traffic around Brussels. Was a great car. Later swapped it for the newer aluminium XF S with the 3.0 supercharged petrol engine and 380 bhp.
My 2011 xf 3 litre is currently sat on my drive after burning out its alternator but i love it so much it will be back on the road in june best car ive ever owned love xf's
That’s a lot of car for next to no money Matt! Love it 😍
Wonderful video! Please could you do a video featuring the Mercedes CLS 219 facelift, ideally in Grand Edition specification? Many thanks.
The 2.2 Ford/JLR/ Psa is an agricultural engine but bulletproof & knocks spots off the Ingenium
Yep put in transit the 2.2 duratorq is bombproof. 😅
@@garywinterbottom6073 Not the same engine, The X-type has the transit engine.
It just goes to show, if you have a bit of cash to throw at a used car you can buy pretty much anything and make it into a great car that with proper care will serve you well for years.
That looks so good on those wheels. Really elegant
I'm always curious why car dealers comment what a good sign it is that the front & rear number plates are matching originals from the supplying dealer, and then promptly change them for new ones for retail! We the customers would rather like the original dealer ones too as we agree it's a good sign.
Nice one Matt 👍
My son's got the 2012 2.2d facelift model in Portfolio spec, it's an absolute beast and the best motorway cruiser I've been in.
Another brilliant video. I do like this Jaguar style as well as previous incarnations and I will be getting one at some point. Probably go for petrol as I'll only use it for fun days.
I do love that a drive by shot of the garage always make it in at some point 😂
Very nicely done number plates - just the way to put the screws through the black numbers and fitted black caps.. It definitely is a very inexpensive big improvement..
Despite the fact you sold it internally it was definitely the best way to go by only doing the bare bones... You could have lost your shirt fixing everything with a dubious chance of any profit...
Just as I was trying to figure out the radio station you mentioned it, lol
Just guessing from my past car industry career, this car might have been built in 2011 but if it was built late in the year, it would be a 2012 Model Year. Hence the facelift features.
Yep, I jumped the gun and wrote this before the carvertical report came in.
Another great video. I live on the other side of the planet and I have reduced the number of car channels to a handful - HPA is a fav. And you're a 'good egg' ... if a bit scrambled. 😎
Great video and story
The facelifted one was so much nicer.
The air vents are very easy to fix just a simple plastic clutch roughly like £6 on eBay?
The hilarious thing is mine is a portfolio XFS and it doesn’t have front sensors or a reverse camera but has adaptive cruise…
So that spec you have there has more options fitted!
Good video. It must be worth phoning the last garage to service it , to ask if cambelt had been done.
Hi Matt - XF's at this age went for soft touch switches. This coating normally fades and looks awful. Hence the naff looking gear selector etc. Best solution most people have found is rubbing alcohol to remove the coating but try not to dissolve the printing. Can be a pain ITA job but can be worth it if they look rough.
#2012XFwithnaffswitches
#Steve - absolute best cheap (£10) add on is a 3/4 keycase that covers everything but the front - otherwise when you drop the fob you can lose the emergency key. Sat Nav can be updated via USB for about £100 (for any buyers!!) - I'd do it "cos the voice is rather lovely!!" but you do have to keep the car running for about 3 hrs to do it (seriously!!)
Great vids me and 10month baby love watching your vids keep it up mate
Thanks, will do!
I have the same 2.2 diesel engine in my mondeo, it’s done 50k miles in nearly 3 years of my ownership and never left me stranded. My mother in law has a 2014 XF 3.0 TDV6 and from what I can that’s been a fantastic car too, towed a caravan to the south of France and back multiple times with no issue. Unfortunately just had a few of the common issues - door latches and also the notorious gear selector not selecting which was quite a pricey repair.
I just hope that he gets the cam belt done and give the old girl a chance.
Great video matt i thunk the xf is a great car but like yourself i would prefer the 3.0 diesel portfolio but thats not a slag off of the lesser models i just think if you buy an xf get the top of the range with all the bells and whistles your mate will be happy with that motor do the belt run in 12-18 month and he will still get close if not his money back keep the vidros coming matt 👍
Still needs that chrome trim on the O/S lower vent at the front.
crazy watching these Jag and Range rover vids because Mats like the Jag oracle 😂
Great video
This was worth waiting for all day Matt 👌 love JLR products. I keep buying Range Rover beauties 👌UK and NZ just love them. My type of car, perfect wafters in luxury
All 2.2 s are in the face lift shape, great channel by the way
Nice RR Sport in the back ground 🤣👍🏽🤣
awesome video
"a tic tack, 20 pence piece and a wood screw" - sounds like the middle isle of Lidl....!!!
Matt, what about the matching lower offside chrome part, anything on ebay?
How did you get on at the Easter Wembley car show, and will there be a blog on it.
Nice cars. And if looked after propley good buys
My father has owned a 2013 2.2 luxury since new, over 200.000 kms now and it's been very reliable ever since!!
I think you should do a video on your sofa !
I came so close to buying one of these a few weeks back, but I had doubts as I wasn't sure how reliable they were, plus I didn't know if replacement parts would be expensive? so I stuck with what I know and got a Ford Mondeo titanium X, lovely car but after watching your video I wished I had gone for a Jag now.
Can we have a walk around and should I buy vid of the Wonder Grip van please.
Good on you!
Worth your mate spending a few bob to sort minor issues,we all know diesel engines will go on forever if shown some love.
G'day from WA. 'Good Egg' - Understatement of the year! Matt, what can I say? 'Be my mate too?'
I first came across TATA working in Middle East, seemed minimalist yet functional. They've done well with Jaguar & Range Rover brands. Nice.
"alright guys, how's it going?, welcome baack" is how I greet everyone these days
I remember when one of these was outside my work place. Looked very smart and I was impressed right up until they fired up the 2.2 diesel. Sounded like a transit. Actually that's unfair on the poor van. My grandad had the 3.0 tdi and that was sweet. But the 2.2 is very noisy from outside. Stealthy it is not. Makes more sense in a Freelander. That said at that price it is probably a more sound bet than the ingenium replacement. Probably sold because it's not UleZ compliant
Always get cambelts done when required as you rightly said £450 or new engine had one go on my car cost me£££
Jag didn’t produce the 2.2 diesel in the pre facelift model. I have a 2010 60 plate 3 litre V6 petrol which is a great engine as you know. Always like your videos.
Nice one ❤
The head piece thingy I think is a fascinator, ladies wear them at the races.
